Satisfaction and stability in a marriage: does it matter if you have met online or offline?

The master thesis looks at marital satisfaction and stability in Czech marriages between 2005 and 2015. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether meeting your spouse online or offline affects marital satisfaction and break-up rate (separation and divorce). The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on attractiveness, the characteristics of a good relationship, the development of marital satisfaction and existing research on online dating. A nationally representative sample of 316 respondents provided answers in an online questionnaire. The results indicate that one in three Czech marriages now begin online. Half of the online group met on an online dating site and 17 % on a social media site. When compared to those that began offline, "online marriages" were slightly less likely to end up in a marital break-up (31 % offline, 26,5 % online) and reported slightly higher marital satisfaction. However, none of these differences were statistically significant. The differences were higher when the online group was narrowed down to the ones who met on an online dating site and on a social media site but remained statistically insignificant. This group also retrospectively reported better fulfilment of their criteria for their life companion at the beginning of a relationship (p=0,041). In general, men...

Will-traits and self-education of students

The bachelor thesis deals with volition, will traits and self-education of students. Volition is understood as a synthetic function of personality, evolutionary highest function of self-regulation and a limited cognitive source. Will traits are considered an outer manifestation of will, self-education (especially its Czech equivalent) is considered an outdated term that is being replaced by similar topics of research such as procrastination. Several philosophical and psychological concepts of will and self-regulation are outlined. Author concieves much of them similar, suggesting emotional, impulsive system (thymos, id, hot system) is usually put opposite to a rational system (logos, ego, cool system). Succesful self-regulation is therefore based on an ability to master the emomotional, hot system. Another part of the paper deals specifically with self-education and variables that are affecting it (individual traits, motives, time and stress, role of a teacher and group). Several methods of self-education are described: self-discovery, formulation of educational goals, precommitment, implementation intention, creating of a habit, reaching flow. Ethical issues in Czech public relations between 2005 and 2010

The bachelor thesis deals with ethics in public relations with specific aim to describe unethcial practises used in the Czech Republic between the years 2005 and 2010. The paper starts with an overview of a history of public relations. Author also focuses on the problematic of ethics in PR, work of various academics and interest groups are mentioned. Specific focus lies on the problematic of code of conducts and its criticism mainly based on the idea that ethical behaviour is not possible to enforce. The paper describes code of conducts of main PR world associations (PRSA, IPRA, ICCO) and of the PR agency Edelman PR. Czech laws and associations are also mentioned with a focus on the way the code of conduct of the Czech association APRA is (not) enforced. The main part of the thesis consists of describtion of unethical practises as mentioned in the media - fake blogs by an agency Bison&Rose to promote "Czech Paypal" in 2007, several cases of financial and material stimulus to attract journalist to press conferences and a misleading information about trains of Siemens. It is followed by 5 interviews with leading Czech PR practicioners, a media expert and a journalist.
