The Role of the European Union in Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Africa. Case study of the Crisis in Darfur (February 2003 - April 2007)
Jirková, Linda ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis deals with the role of the European Union in conflict prevention and crisis management. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the reasons why the EU plans for conflict prevention and resolution do not match with the reality. The thesis works with the hypothesis that the EU is more active in adoption of strategies and programs for conflict prevention and crisis management than in its implementation. The first part of the thesis provides an analysis of the ambitious goals in conflict prevention and resolution in Africa the EU has set and the limits in its implementation. It addresses the background of the development of the EU foreign politics concerning Africa and the way these politics are created. The implementation of this politics is analyzed on the case study of the crisis in Darfur. The second part of the thesis shows the results of the EU assistance to the crisis.
