The Affected Flesh
Mendoza, Valerio ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; JANEČEK, Vít (referee)
Along the first decade of the 21st century, Romanian Cinema has achieved an elite status with the emerge of the so-called Romanian New Wave or New Romanian Cinema. This dissertation, aims to explore a little bit beyond the obvious aesthetics and dramatic features that have conferred awards and prestige to this film movement.Through three of its emblematic films, the use and representation of the human body will be analyzed as a powerful and effective storytelling tool, capable of rendering a coherent socio-political discourse at the same time it harmonically engages with a depurate visual style. The New Romanian Cinema deals with themes like identity and structures of power, and this thesis seeks to expose how those concepts are articulated through an specific depicting of the corporality -and its affections- of the main characters, highlighting the way directors use their craft in consonance with such representation instances
The End of a Film or What to Do When Our Hero Is Still Alive
Mičúch, Vladimír ; JANEČEK, Vít (advisor) ; SLÁMA, Bohdan (referee)
This thesis deals with film ends in sense of a film narration. I analyse a function of entrenched film expressions creating the melody of the film's end in the first part of my thesis. I focus on ends from the point of their importance in the second part of my thesis. According to their influence on the film itself I divided the ends into two groups: formal film ends and author film ends. If an author brings a new point of view on his film (or not) this is the main criteria for the division of the ends according to the author's approach. I prove that the film end has an expressional ability and has a power to influence yet seen scenes or a meaning of the whole film itself by analysing the chosen film ends.
A Director´s Subtle Control
Pimentel, Carla Carolina ; JANEČEK, Vít (advisor) ; DOMINKOVÁ, Petra (referee)
During my directing mentorship I have come to understand how to work in collaboration with most of the different facets of filmmaking that contribute to making successful films. With practical analysis of major films and filmmakers of our history and with the instillment of visual theory, it is clear that filmmaking is never as easy as it looks. My aim is to enlighten some techniques used by the old and new in different variations. My take is directed specifically on how to work with actors. Through exercises, situations, techniques and practical examples, I attempt, with this study, to help developing directors understand the individual variations of working with actors and non-actors. The path of a director is one of countless obstacles, but with intuition and a developed technique the director can be prepared for the unexpected.
T'ai chi ch'uan and the art of handheld camera
Šípek, Jan ; JANEČEK, Vít (advisor) ; ŘEZNÍČEK, Martin (referee)
Chinese martial art t'ai chi ch'uan emphasizes the skills of stability of the body, smoothness of movement and especially of walk. This thesis asks a question, whether the techniques of t'ai chi are usable in handheld camera work. In the introductory essay part the author subjectively interprets the elements of both Chinese thinking and the art of t'ai chi, to the degree he had opportunity to explore. In a enquiry among Czech documentary cameramen he tries to find links with the oriental praxis, and, finally, in the last part, he introduces a set of practices of t'ai chi, usable for camera work.

My data will include a body of explanatory videos collected from different self-help websites, which will be analyzed in order to point at salient audiovisual features and persuasion techniques in these campaigns.
The Collectivization of Dobřejovice, a commune near Hluboká
JANEČEK, Vít
This bachelor paper explores the early phase of collectivization in the commune of Dobřejovice near Hluboká nad Vltavou, covering the general aspects of the process as well as the experiences of one harshly victimized family. The theoretical part begins with a general outline of agricultural development in the first half of the 20th century, including the collectivization campaign in the Czechoslovak Republic after 1948. The paper's research is focused on changes in farming and some consequences of collectivization in a small South Bohemian village, with due attention to the hard impact it had on the so-called "kulaks". Based on the specialised literature and rich archive materials from the State District Archives in České Budějovice, in my paper I aim to give an objective description of the period, with respect for historical fact.
Public television, religion and limits of universalism
Týmal, František ; Janeček, Vít (advisor) ; Štampach, Ivan (referee)
A regular part of the Czech public service TV broadcasting are programs with Christian content. Their aim is to preach spiritual values, tolerance and peaceful life style. Crucial goal of all these programs is an universalistic effort to address all spectators without difference between religious and non-religious. Nevertheless, television is a very complex medium and can heavily deform the original message and make it a part of the popular spectacle. In my work I have analyzed four TV Christian magazines addressed to young people to describe the most of the issues which can occur when conveying such an abstract message through the medium of television. To achieve these results I used the Czech TV web archives and related literature about spirituality and media. I have also discussed chosen TV programs with editors and script advisors from the Czech TV. I have found all these programs very innovative in looking for new ways to address young audience but not entirely able to communicate strong spiritual ideas. The supposed audience is actually too broad to target it with a specific and profound message. In the unprecedented situation of our region I see this broadcasting as a dignifield attempt to integrate Christianity in the public television and I find many ways how to improve it.
Film as a subject - how the medium sees itself
