Airbnb and Multilevel Governance: Case Study of Prague

This master thesis is a case study that deals with the concept of multilevel governance and its applicability in the regulation of the modern trend in shared economy - the digital platform Airbnb. The base resource for the study is the territory of the capital city of Prague, where this phenomenon has a massive impact on the problems in legislative issues. The political debate on this agenda fills the headlines of media news and tends to lead to major changes or mobilization of the electorate in the upcoming years. The enormous rise of developing this service has put politics at all levels of government ahead of serious legislative and political challenges. Application of the Airbnb service example on our theory forms the core of the empirical part of the research. The aim of this thesis is to examine the importance and role of each individual level based on the concept of multilevel governance in relation to the regulation of the Airbnb phenomenon. Sport as Local Cleavage: Case Study of Vysočina Region

The diploma thesis Sport as Local Cleavages: Case Study of Vysočina Region analyses whether sport and sport related topics (sport financing and other support, organization of sports events, operation and building of sport facilities, association activities, etc.) are able to divide a society, or whether it can be one of the cleavages at the local level in the Vysočina Region and what intensity this cleavage could have in the examined municipalities. The theoretical part contains the concept of conflict lines of S. Rokkan and S. M. Lipset. The research put emphasis on the local level of politics, the Czech environment and the cleavage connected with a sport. Authors such as S.Balík, V. Bubeníček, J. Čmejrek, J. Čopík, V. Hloušek and M. Kubálek are dealing with these issues. The analytical part of the thesis is a case study that examines the presence of cleavage, its intensity and the approach of actors through both semi-structured interviews with representatives of selected municipalities, records of municipalities and as well through media news monitoring. Based on research it is obvious that sport could evoke and develop conflicts and, in some cases, can indeed significantly divide a society and establish a new local policy player.
Migration as a theme of regional elections in 2016

This diploma thesis aims on the migration as one of topics relevant in the regional election in 2016. This topic became resonating in Czech environment and appeared to be a theme for several political subjects across whole political spectrum. The author of this thesis focuses on four regions: South-Moravian and Moravian-Silesian regions, Plzeň region and Ústí region. In respect of these territorial units the author aims on topic of migration as itself, considering not only election 2016 but also the 2012 poll, in order to clarify if the migration topic is entirely new or if it has already shown up in the Czech political environment in previous elections. The author aims on the first and second order election problematics in the thesis and also analysis the role of parties' centers and periphery in the regional election of the years 2016 and 2012 in the territorial units mentioned above respectively. Election Campaigns in small municipalities? Case Study of Microregion of Jemnice

This diploma thesis deals with election campaigns in small municipalities in the context of the Czech Republic, respectively nine municipalities of Microregion of Jemnice, which were selected as a research sample. The work focuses mainly on the analysis of whether election campaigns in these municipalities can be met at all, or what form and character of they have. The subject of the research is also the question if we can meet a certain form of election campaign in those small municipalities where there are disputes about the development of the municipality. This qualitative case study mainly uses the deductive methodological approach, where the basic theoretical approaches and concepts of the researched issue are introduced, from which the specific goals related to the research of campaigns in the Czech municipal environment are proceeded. Analysis of negotiations and creation of coalition in the Ústecký, Pardubický, Hradec Králové and Pilsen region

This work targets to analyse coalitions negotiation and them creation council of selected regions. At first work will be described and theory of coalition, which explains creation coalitions. Within theory of coalition will be introduced European traditional, American traditional and motivation of actors for entry and formation of coalition. Next will be deal with typology of coalition, when will be introduced individual types of coalitions. Afterward it focuses the individual region and that Ústecký, Pardubický, Královohradecký and Pilsen Region. Every region will have characteristic region, evolution of party system from creating of regions structure to 2012 years. Afterward will by results of election 2012. Based on results of election will be presented potential coalition, which could create. The next will be electoral programs of success political subjects and finally negotiating about region coalition. Movement ANO 2011 in Local Coalitions: Case Study of Large Cities

This diploma thesis presents Hnutí ANO 2011 as a Czech local governance participant. Having put emphasis on ANO's local organizations, the diploma thesis deals with particular situations in selected statutory cities during the 2014-2018 electoral cycle. As the electoral cycle went by, internal problems in local organizations emerged which ended up with party board abolishing some of the organizations. Coalitions in which ANO participated also were affected by those problems. In some cities, however, coalitions persisted and ANO local organizations had not suffer with internal problems, study of which also became a part of the research in the thesis. Having a strong leader from the business environment and limited membership, ANO 2011 is considered to be a business-firm party focused on marketing strategies and external specialists. As a typical business-firm party instance Forza Italia can be named, established in 1990s by Italian businessman and future prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Business-firm party character of ANO may affect local governance where ANO's local organizations follow ANO party board's instructions and those organizations lack of autonomy to make their own political decisions.
Czech Mayors - Case Study of Písek District Between Years 2006-2014

This bachelor's thesis is a case study that deals with research of mayors in the Písek district between years 2006-2018. Mayors of the Písek district were statistically analyzed from several point of views in the order to characterize and identify changes on this position for the last four election periods. The thesis discovers how often were the mayors reelected and for how long, as well as how many women mayors were elected, and if their numbers increase or decrease. Also, the average age of mayors and their participation in political parties were studied, eventually their nominations on the lists of candidates of political parties. The mayoral bonus is also discussed in the thesis. The mayoral bonus means that mayor gets more votes in the second election than in the first one. The topic is examined in the whole district and in small and bigger villages. It concerns mayor bonus in the case of mayors on the lists of candidates and compares all the election's results during the examined years. Political Aspects of Jointly Held Local Referenda and Local Elections: Case Study of the City of Prague

This thesis deals with political aspects of jointly held local referenda and municipal elections, focusing on the possibility of utilizing this concurrence in order to achieve political goals - influencing the progress of referendum, mobilizing voters, using the referendum as part of election campaign - the main aim is to systematize and classify these political aspects, the other aim is to identify strategies adopted by political participants in order to achieve holding both events in conjunction. The first part of the thesis the issue of jointly held local referenda and elections is placed in the context of EU member states and the conditions of local referenda in Czech Republic are analysed. In the second part individual political aspects of local referenda are identified and based on that the key categories are defined in order to systematize and classify political aspects of local referenda. The latter systematization is then used in the multi-case study of Prague, specifically its districts where the initiators of the referendum intended to hold it jointly with municipal elections in October 2014, and strategies of achieving conjunction are identified based on discovered findings.
Elements of political marketing in Litvínov 2018 municipal election campaign

This diploma thesis is a case study of the town Litvínov from which the author comes from. It analyses the use of political marketing in the party election campaigns, which is described in detail and applied through the Lees-Marshment's theory with the help of semi-structured interviews, questionnaire surveys, mapping of programs and Codes of Conduct. The expected result of the thesis is not only the analysis of the municipal pre-election campaigns of the individual candidate parties using the Lees-Marshment theory, but also critical evaluation of this theory applied within the municipal politics. The partial objective is to compare the use of marketing of regional and national candidate parties within the municipal politics. It is not only a description of this theory, but also an evaluation of the theory suitability on the municipal level. The conclusions point to the fact that political marketing plays a certain role at the municipal level, but the degree of its use is much lower than on the national level.
