The thesis focuses on two plays and one poetry collection by Federico García Lorca; El público, Así que pasen cinco an͂ os and Poeta en Nueva York, which together form the New York cycle and represent a new and unique phase in his compositions both from the point of view of content and form. The thesis concentrates on several distinctive motifs and themes related to the problem of human identity; ie the motifs and themes which discuss how to understand the individual or the human existence. This topic is reflected in the cultural context of Lorca's age, demonstrating that the atmosphere of the era corresponded with the author's personal perspective. The interpretation of human existence is strongly determined by the moment of death, therefore, the representation of death in the works and the related motifs are discussed in the thesis. At the same time, the similarity of Lorca's perspective with the philosophical ideas of the era is taken into consideration, with the emphasis on the philosophy of Martin Heidegger. In this context, we also focus on the author's relation to Christianity and the use of the Christian motifs in his plays and poems. Minaříková, Alena ; Charvátová, Anežka (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
(in English): Argentine writer Julio Cortázar in his collection of short stories named Historias de cronopios y de famas described with his original attitude and unique sense of humour many topics of mere life in very special context and in a very special way. One of these unexpectable views is slightly absurd interpretation of three artworks in a short story "Instrucciones para entender tres pinturas famosas". I am going to focus on comparison of existing scientific works describing the mentioned artworks and the point of view of Julio Cortázar. I would like to look further for the meaning of slightly surrealistic grotesque play and to underline the caricature of the scientific discipline trying to systematize such an open and changeable field as art. Subsequently I am going to have a look at his works in general. The significant imagination is making us wonder if the writer had been inspired by some concrete painting or he could have stimulate with his extraordinary ideas some artist in creation of a work of art. To illustrate this idea I am going to give several examples of paintings that are connected with the Cortázar's text in certain ways and compare the circumstances of the creation. In conclusion I am planning to summarize the role of art in the writing and personal life of this...

JOSÉ MARTÍ - life and work with orientation to his essays Madre América and Nuestra América
Bočková, Sandra ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
In my Bachelor thesis entitled "JOSÉ MARTÍ - life and work with orientation to his essays Madre América and Nuestra América" I am going to pursue two of his principal essays titled Madre América and Nuestra América which contain Marti's ideas related to the self- determination of the nations of Latin America. In order to analyse the respective themes, I consider necessary to introduce the author first. In my opinion, José Martí is one of the most important figures in the Cuban colonial era; he represents also one of the most influential ideological leaders of the Cuban independence war. His ideas about the Latin American roots, the union and the independent and equitable society also inspired the history of the whole Latin America. José Martí was also an outstanding figure in the world of literature. His complete works include poetry, articles, essays as well as dramas and one novel. Because of that I find appropriate to describe briefly his literary work. The crucial part consists in the analysis of the essays mentioned above, which deal with the roots of Latin America. According to Martí, the recognition of these roots and the faith in them will lead to the liberty of every Latin American nation; it will help to reach the unity among all of them and to avoid foreign influence. In the words of...

Hopscotch by Cortázar - a game in many games
Zatlkajová, Katarína ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
The intention of my thesis Hopscotch by Cortázar - a game in many games was to analyze the novel in its ludic dimension. I tried to see the game as a multiplicative element and, at the same time, as an element that provides unit to the work. Therefore, I use as an interpretative instrument the semantic gesture of Jan Mukařovský. However, I do not intend to utilize this term in his whole meaning, I wanted to study the multiplicity and unit of the game, exploring some of the aspects of the semantic gesture. Despite the game has dynamic features, it also has two concrete forms in the novel. Hopscotch is many games, but especially is two: esthetic and moral game. When I speak about the esthetic game, I refer to the formal aspects of the novel. I tried to study the esthetic game in its multiplicative dimension, as well as an element that creates unit in the dynamics of the novel. Therefore, I my research went through the formal aspects of the work. I observed the problem of the name, genre, structure and the relations between characters, readers and the author. On one hand, the novel is presented, thanks to the game, as an open, infinite book. The ludic element also provides to the author an instrument to play with the structure of the novel, creating infinite possibilities of lecture. At the third...

Mužíková Paclíková, Edita ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The thesis focuses on theme of cultural identity of Mexican Americans. The introduction is based on the common history of Mexico and the United States of America (the question of the immigration, the Chicano Movement, Chicano Spanish). Attention is paid to the conception of Mexican American literature and essayistic, poetic and narrative work of Tomás Rivera, the major representative of the Chicano movement literature. The most important part of this work consists of the analysis of some peculiar motives in Rivera's cycle ...And the Earth Did not Devour Him, that create a picture of Mexican American life (the motive of religion, despair, journey, etc.). To understand the integrity of Mexican American literature, (i.e. the literature of the Chicano Movement and the Chicana literature) Rivera is compared with Roberta Fernández's novel in six stories Fronterizas emphasizing the importance of Mexican American rituals and their influence on everyday life.
