This famous lady, teacher, preacher, prophet, abbesses and healer was born in 1098 in Germany and died after her shining career in 1179. Conflict of Good and Evil in The Silmarillion from a Biblical Perspective
Kučera, Benjamin ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Bargár, Pavol (referee)
The theme of the thesis is to look into the conflict of good and evil in the work of Tolkien The Silmarillion from a Biblical perspective. The text of Silmarillion itself is mainly used for identification of themes related to the central one. These themes are further analysed to reveal their origin, namely whether they came from the biblical tradition or some other tradition. The first part is devoted to the Silmarillion itself and provides a brief summary to remind reader of the basic plot line and motifs. The second part addresses the issue of good and evil from a cosmic perspective and its definition. This section also identifies the general principles of this combat taking into account its particular realisations and allows reader to determine the influence of Christianity, Norse mythology, and other sources on Tolkien's work. The third part deals with the conflict between good and evil in relation to particular persons or groups of persons, and describes the way people surrender to the evil and how they can resist it. It makes clear what values Tolkien considered important. In this thesis reader can once again find summarisation of the factors that influenced Tolkien's work.
Romany Religion, Tradition and Customs
Innemanová, Petra ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Weiniger, Rut Jochanan (referee)
Romany Religion, Tradition and Customs I tried to describe tradition and customs of Slovakian Romany people in my thesis, I showed their life cycle from birth and christening up to dying, death and funeral. The Romany attitude towards faith and religion is showed too which lies on natural animistic basis mainly, combined with elements borrowed from Christian religion of the major population. I looked for the traditional customs in my family, our ancestors come from Bardějov in Slovakia. I was interested in the fact to which extent the original values and Romany roots maintained. The information I obtained in the conversation, observation and my own experience I used in my thesis. The information is an insight into the Romany community, shows the degree of confirmation of cultural elements and the change of attitudes within one family in three generations. The portion of non-Romany origin is higher gradually and the total degree of the influence of the major Czech culture is higher as well. This is an entirely subjective view on the fact and selfreflexion is added which could be a basis for a deeper research. Chapter one deals with the purpose of the thesis. In the chapter two I describe the methodology and the research sample. Chapter three deals with religion and particular Romany traditional...
Comparison of Hans Kung and his work Global Ethics with the Civil Religion
Knotek, Daniel ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Hajko, Dalimír (referee)
This Diploma Thesis deals with two universalistic conceptions, represented by the Swiss Catholic Theologist Hans Küng and his work Global Ethics, and the Civil Religion. In the first part of my text, I bring in the personality of Hans Küng, his work, ideas and the book Global Ethics which received great acclaim on international forum, Churches and society. Küng draws up three basic theses: No world peace without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between the religions. No dialogue between the religions without accurate knowledge of one another. These theses express the need for a dialogue, being able to formulate viable visions of the future. In the second part of my work, I introduce a less known notion of the Civil Religion with its transformations and development throughout the history. It is a concept exceeding the border of sociology, political science, philosophy and theology, examining the formative processes of the society and its religious reference speech. It penetrates the academic discourse especially in the period between the 1960s and 1980s, as represented e.g. by the American sociologist Robert Bellah. In the third part of my text, I compare both the universalistic conceptions and try to find out where they intersect and in which respect each of them has...
Claim for Truth and the Challenge of Religious Pluralism: State of Discussion in Present-day Christianity
Mrázek, Miloš ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Štampach, Ivan (referee) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis dicusses different responses to the challenge of religious pluralism in Christianity. It focuses on the question of how the present-day Christians respond to this challenge, how they relate to the traditional claim of the unique truth of Divine revelation in Christian teaching, and how they understand the concept of truth itself in this context. The text thus maps different trends and movements in current Christianity and introduces problems concerning the definition of the concept of religious pluralism in religious studies and the issues of the current philosophical discussion on the nature of truth - both in general and in religious discourse in particular. The Rediscovery of Symbol in Louis-Marie Chauvet
Bauerová, Kateřina ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee) ; Hušek, Vít (referee)
The main aim of my dissertation is to introduce, analyse, and critically evaluate the notion of symbol of a contemporary French sacramental theologian Louis-Marie Chauvet. He has significantly influenced the Western, especially Roman Catholic scene, but he is almost unknown in the Czech milieu. Chauvet's rehabilitation of a symbolic view of reality brings a possibility to speak about God's presence in a non- ideological way. He also brings a positive evaluation of body and corporality back into theology. In the first part of my work I map out the resources from which Chauvet draws in his notion of symbol. In particular I deal with Heidegger's early philosophy but also with Chauvet's use of psychoanalysis and his critical evaluation of older Thomist sacramental theology. The second part of my work is devoted to Chauvet's own notion of symbol. On the basis of his central works I analyse three topics linked with his approach to symbol: being, language and corporality. In the last part I critically appraise Chauvet's notion especially with respect to his use of Lacan's psychoanalytical theory. For some open questions that come out of this I look for alternatives in three French contemporary female authors. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
