Jews in Frýdek and Místek Region. Jewish community and its creators.
Baránek, Daniel ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the process of founding, development, decline and destruction of the Jewish community in the Region of Frýdek and Místek. This community represents one of the Jewish communities in Moravia and Silesia being evolved due to the emancipation of the Jews. In comparison with the majority of the existing treatises on the Moravian and Silesian "emancipatory" Jewish communities, this thesis focuses not only on external phenomenons (the number and socio-economic status of the Jews, the construction of religious buildings), but also and mainly pays attention to the Jewish community itself, to its internal evolution and limits, different concepts of its development, to religious and later also to national identity of the members of the Frýdek-Místek Jewish community. The thesis also traces the limits of the integration of the Jews into the surrounding society, as well as the territorial specifics result- ing from the fact that this Jewish community was located in the Moravian-Silesian border. 1
The municipal real-gymnasium of Malá Strana in 1865-1891
Veselá, Jana ; Randák, Jan (referee) ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor)
The paper's topíc is Czech secondary education in the second half of the 19th century. It generally follows the development of the education system in Austria and discusses the consequences of the Exner-Bonitz school reform from 1849. This reform created two main types of secondary schools: the gymnasium and the real school. As a result of theoretical debates about a single, unified sec on dary school, a new type of school emerges in the Czech lands, the so-called real-gymnasium, a combination ofboth previous types. In the 1860s, new schools are being founded in the Czech lands by the individua! municipalities who also provide the funding. The paper selects one of them, the real-gymnasium in Malá Strana, Prague, as a model example and follows its development as a mixed type of secondary school and also the economic and administrative implications of its existence and the efforts of the city council to hand it over into the hands of the state. The relationship between the city officials and the Austrian Ministry of cult and education is analysed. Methodologically, the paper also discusses the use of autobiographical fiction in literature as a source for the study of everyday life in history. Considering the participants in the school situation, the paper's focus lies on students, their social standing and...
In the name of family and work: Eduard Bazika's memoirs and their interpretation
Chalupová, Alice ; Randák, Jan (referee) ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor)
Eduard (Edvard) Bazika was born on 19. 9. 1830 at Olešná near Rakovník. During his lifetime he was a well-known builder of railways, a specialist writer and external examiner at the Czech Technical University. He has bequeathed to us his comprehensive memoirs, which unveil the origins and formation of the Czech technical intelligentsia with their public and private opinions. Martin Bazika's father (1794-1864) was a castle gardener. In order to provide a good standard of living for his large family he moved with his wife and four children from Olešná to nearby Krušovice in 1837. In ducal service, he became famous especially as a grower of fruit trees and ornamental plants. He made it possible for all his sons to gain a vocational education. Yet, it was only his son Eduard who attained a higher technical education. He attended the main and lower secondary school between 1840-1844 at Rakovník and the upper secondary and the Prague Estates' Polytechnics between 1845 and 1849. He was actively involved in the Revolution of 1848 in the ranks of the Student Legion. Yet, he merely observed the All Saints' Day struggles from the countryside, as his parents had requested his return to Krušovice. In 1849 he successfully completed his technical studies. For a short period he worked in the Křivoklátsko area for the...

Táborský, Ondřej ; Hlavačka, Milan (referee) ; Štaif, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis focuses on the development of the mechanism of self-government in Pardubice. The work is limited by years 1880 and 1914. The first chapter explains the political situation and demographical changes in Pardubice in the second half of the 19th century. The second chapter deals with the topic of communal elections. There have been eleven elections to the communal self-government during the tracked period. We have been able (thanks to the acquired results of the elections) to find that the electoral right has increased because of the pressure from minor political parties. Only 15% percent of inhabitants could vote the communal vestry in the prewar period because of the unfair election right. The majority of voters of the first congregation was represented by the members of the so called "honoration". The third chapter has shown the changes in the social structure of the self government of Pardubice. Comparatively stable and active component were the members of the artes liberales. The highest increase in the number of representatives was in the state bureaucracy. The fourth part focuses on the political development in the field of struggle for the directorial positions in the municipality. The fifth part deals with management of local self goverment of Pardubice and construction of the modern...
The revival reference of Daniel Sloboda the priest in Rusava
Pavelka, Jaroslav ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
An evangelical priest, national revivalist, noted natural scientist (a meteorologist and botanist). In this way it is possible to introduce briefly the noted personality of MoravianSlovak, or if you like, Rusava history. Daniel Sloboda (1809-1888) was bom in Skalica, a Slovak town, but aH his life he worked in Rusava, a Walachian vi11age in Moravia. In the beginning his national-revivalistic activity was hampered by the local people's distrust, who professed two kinds of religion - the Catholic and evangelical. In spite of that he played an important role in construction of the school and church in Rusava and also in the improvement of the standart of living of the local inhabitants. His profession of priest, the outlook of the inteHectual and broad contacts with other noted personalities of the National Revival movement in Moravia and Bohemia contributed to his work. This diploma work has two objectives - first it wants to show the life and contribution of Daniel Sloboda, sometimes unjustly neglected in "the large scope" of history, albeit being important for his activity and contribution not only for Rusava, then this work makes an effort to place the personality of Daniel Sloboda into the context of the history of the National Revival movement in Moravia.
