The Jan Deyl Conservatory and the Secondary School for the Visually Impaired in Prague: The "Deylak" Subculture as Motivation for the Given Students to Pursue a Music Career

This thesis deals with the Conservatory of Jan Deyl in Prague and its students and absolvents. The Conservatory of Jan Deyl is a Special High School for people with visual handicap and it is the only one of its kind in Czech Republic. The Conservatory leads its students to the future profession as a teacher of music. At times, there is a tendency of absolvents to lose their interests in being a teacher of music and a lot of them tend to choose other professions such as informatics, massages or languages, but not music. Even though there are still some people who stay truth to music teaching, they often end up working in a smaller town. In the beginning of my research I wanted to discover that strange subculture, as an Ethnologist discovers culture of primitive civilizations. A field research took one school year (2006/2007), during which I spend time around the school to discover the environment and to familiarize with blind people and their daily habits. On the basis of observation I came up with my aims and my research question: 'How does Conservatory motivate its students to study music and to become professional musicians in their future lives?' Tourism as a metaphore of postmodern lifestyle: case study of tourists in India

This master's thesis is concerned with the phenomenon of tourism in the context of social and cultural anthropology, approaching the anthropology of tourism from a comparative perspective. Studying the historical development of this phenomenon, it proposes that tourism might be considered as a metaphore of postmodern lifestyle. Through a case study of tourists in India designed by the thesis's author, this paper aims both to apply the field research data to theoretical approaches, and to suggest conclusions as well as the specific characteristics of tourist in India.
