Elsa Morante's Novels

This thesis analyse life and work of the leading figure of italian literature in the twentieth century Elsa Morante. Important elements of her work are defined on the basis of analyses of all her novels. The introduction part shows her personal life and comlete work, which includes also poetry, short stories and fairy tales. Four chapters analysing her four novels are following. The author debuts in 1948 when she published novel Menzogna e sortilegio. Second book L'isola di Artura followed nearly ten years later in 1957. This novel won critical acclaim and favour of readers. Next book La Storia was a bestseller with more then 600 000 sold copies. Critic's opinions differ widely, up to now this novel is receiving opposing reviewes. Morante concluded her writing with the last very pessimistic novel Aracoeli. Author wrote just four novels, in every one of them she used the same methodes and themes. Portuguese influences on Antonio Tabucchi's works

The aim of this thesis is to point out the influences of Portuguese literature and culture on the Italian writer Antonio Tabucchi. The introductory part is principally focused on the key events of his professional life which was influenced by the works of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. We further develope this topic in the next part. Based on the mentioned characteristics, we analyzed four of Tabbucchi's books which are different in their topic and genre as well. Analyzing the primary literature, we focused on the features of the characters, on the background, the historical and political context of the works. In conclusion, we sum up the elements of Tabucchi's works which contributed to the propagation of Portuguese literature in Italy.
The Italian historical novel between 1827 and 1840

This doctoral dissertation deals with the theme of Italian historical novel in 1827-1840. The first, methodological part presents its premises and summarizes the present research about historical novel in Italian literary history. The second part introduces the contemporary context, the most relevant concepts of the debate that concerns the historical novel, and points out the possible influence of W. Scott; also the most typical themes, motifs and characters during the productive period of genre. The third, analytical part presents seven representative historical novels where the distinctive features are analyzed: e.g. historical settings, spatiotemporal relations and their author's intentions, relation between history and fiction, tools for emphasizing the truthfulness and plausibility of the story's plot, relation author-narrator-reader. The fourth, synthetic part tries to summarize the possible novel stereotypes, especially category of point of view and author's interventions, intentions of spatiotemporal settings, connection between history and fiction, the main structural lines, motifs and features and the most distinctive characters.
Experimental novels of Aldo Palazzeschi

This thesis is concerned with the experimental prose by Aldo Palazzeschi: Allegoria di Novembre (1908 as Riflessi, 1926), Il Codice di Perelá (1911) and La Piramide (1914). At the beginning of the thesis the author gives an insight into the writers biography, then outlines the difficult situation of the individuality of modern man at the beginning of twentieth century. The thesis is mainly devoted to the analysis of specific Palazzeschi's works. Author has been looking for specific language and stylistic features. Author also observes evolution of the writer's creative process. In the center of her interest there are also the protagonists of the works and the evolution of their characters. In the final chapter the main features of analysed works are summarised.
Pirandello's Trilogy of the Theatre in the Theatre.

The aim of the thesis called Pirandello's Trilogy of the Theatre in the Theatre is an analysis of three stage plays written by famous Italian writer Luigi Pirandello in pre-war period between years 1921-1930. The introduction, which is focused on Pirandello's life and his theatrical writings, which is divided into four stages: Sicilian theatre, humoristic theatre, theatre in the theatre and theatre of myths. Special attention is devoted to metatheatrical plays. Other chapters are concerned with the analysis of single plays: Six characters in search of an author (Sei personaggi in cerca d'autore), Each in his own way (Ciascuno a suo modo) and Tonight we improvise (Questa sera si recita a soggetto). The closing chapter compare these dramas and try to describe an evolution of characters and performance of theatre on the theatre.
Alberto Moravia's Roman Tales

The aim of this thesis are Roman tales written by Alberto Moravia. The first part is dedicated to life of this italian writer. Next there is a short introduction of his tales. In the following chapter we can find theme analysis of Racconti romani. The next part is dedicated to the origins of Roman tales and also to the influences that effected Moravia. In the fifth chapter we can find analysis of stilistics of the book. In the last chapter there is an insertion of the tales to the contest of italian neorealism. Mario Pratesi and Tuscany

The subject and main aim of the bachelor thesis, "Mario Pratesi and Tuscany" is to introduce a quite unknown and hardly accessible author writing in the 19th and 20th century, and his native land. The introductory section outlines the historical background and presents the highlights that are related to the unification of Italy. A description of the author's life and a chronological review of his works follow. The next chapters are devoted to Tuscany, the author's native land. We try to find out to what extent Pratesi's creation was influenced by the environment in which he was born and grew up. Next is an analytical part, in which we introduce several major topics that the author uses in his novels (focusing on numerous elements) and according to those we attempt to create a comprehensive picture of Tuscany and its inhabitants at the time. This is based on two major works, the novels: L'Eredità and Perfidie del caso. A brief insight into the language of Pratesi's works with emphasis on regional and dialect influences is considered too. In conclusion we outline the strengths and weaknesses of the author's novels and try to figure out why Mario Pratesi is an author rather less well-known, both in the Czech Republic as in his native country, Italy. Paola Mastrocola vs. Contemporary Italian Society. Thematic analysis of author's narrative and essay works.

The topic of this thesis is a thematic analysis of literary works of contemporary Italian writer Paola Mastrocola. The introduction is a short introduction of the author (her biographical and bibliographical data). After that there is a research of the most important topics that are shown the most in the Mastrocola's works (both prose and essays). The following section focuses on the artist's work with exaggeration, the use of irony or humor and comic elements, the difference between direct and indirect criticism. The conclusion summarizes the thematic analysis and the main common attributes of Paola Mastrocola's production. Finally, there is a sketched picture of contemporary Italian society, which the reader gains from her works. The first part is dedicated to the situation of Jews in Italy after the adoption of racial laws. The second part outlines Levi's life and his masterpiece If this is a man. The third part describes other Levi's literary work concerning the concentration camp topics. The last part is focused on the importance of author's work in connection with the world literature related to the same subject.
