Hardware Acceleration of Image Filtering
Fiala, Martin ; Martínek, Tomáš (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
This master's thesis contains introduction to image filtration problems, especially to theoretical outlets, whose origin lies in linear systems theory and mathematical function analysis. There are described some approaches and methods which are used to image smoothing and for edge detection in an image. Mainly Sobel operator, Laplace operator and median filter are covered. The main contents of this project is discussion of some approaches of hardware acceleration of image filtering and design of time effective software and hardware implementations of filters in a form of program functions and combinational circuits using theoretical knowledges about time complexity of algorithms. Hardware and software implementation of named filters was done too. For every filter, time of filtration was measured and results were compared and analyzed.
Subordinated bonds as a Tier 2 capital instrument
Fiala, Martin ; Kohajda, Michael (advisor) ; Kotáb, Petr (referee)
Subordinated bonds as a Tier 2 capital instrument Abstract This rigorous thesis the topic of which is "Subordinated bonds as a Tier 2 capital instrument" elaborates on bank regulation and possible ways of how to comply with it. Specifically, whether it is possible (and how) to meet Tier 2 capital requirement as one of the requirements of capital adequacy. Following the introduction to this rigorous thesis and setting forth the scientific methods of work the author follows a development of capital adequacy as one of the core requirements of the current bank regulation. This historical development has been put into conjunction with the leading feature of this development - whether it was a globalisation of banking services or specificities of 2008 financial crisis. The Tier 2 capital requirement is explained on this background. This topic is completed with the purely economic chapter that elaborates and explains reasons of financial regulation and goals that the financial regulation tends to accomplish. To be specific, it concerns the theoretical model of perfect competition and particular market failures. The understanding of market failures is a key to the well-drafted financial regulation. While banks tend to complain about the amount of regulation they need to comply with on a daily basis, the goal of...
Acute Myocardical Infarction with ST Elevation (STEMI), Direct PCI, Times and Lethality
Al Mawiri, Abdulwasya ; Vojáček, Jan (advisor) ; Mates, Martin (referee) ; Fiala, Martin (referee)
In ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), rapid revascularization is of paramount importance, and direct transport to a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)-capable center is recommended. Long-term follow-up data comparing both approaches are scarce. The purpose of this study was to compare the long-term outcomes of direct primary transfer (PT) and indirect secondary transfer (ST) in patients with STEMI. Method and study group: We enrolled consecutive patients referred for STEMI within 12 h of symptom onset. The primary endpoint was to compare long-term lethality of direct PT and indirect ST in patients with STEMI. During a two-year period (2008-2009), we prospectively recorded lethality and the door-to-balloon time (DBT) of 869 patients with STEMI from arrival at the first hospital until reperfusion by PCI in the catheterization laboratory. A total of 677 patients (77.9%) were enrolled for the final evaluation, with 192 (22.1%) patients excluded. We divided the patients into two groups: the first group (PT) had been transferred directly from the field to a catheterization laboratory, while the second group (ST) had been transferred from regional hospitals to a catheterization laboratory. The final analysis included 677 patients aged 20 to 96 years; the mean age was 64,04 years,...

Sobolev mappings and Cantor type counterexamples Author: Martin Fiala Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Stanislav Hencl, Ph.D. Abstract: The aim of this work is to show one of the general con- structions of the mappings, which can be used to create different coun- terexamples in the theory of Sobolev mappings. The construction is described in detail and then it is used for a number of examples. The last chapter is devoted to a slight generalization of this construction. 1
Legal position of Czech National Bank and its activities
Fiala, Martin ; Vondráčková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Novotný, Petr (referee)
The topic of the final thesis is The Legal Status of the Czech National Bank and its Powers. Even though this topic is quite extensive, I have decided to focus on powers of the Czech National Bank with regards to the implementation of the directive establishing a framework for the recovery and resolution of credit institutions and investment firms. In order to fulfill the topic and understand properly the current legal status of the CNB, I included the history of the CNB as well. Based on it, I set forth its status in Czech law with regards to the organizational structure, goals, powers or activities. Subsequently, I addressed the BRRD itself. The CNB obtains new scope of powers with regards to the directive that shall solve the Too big to fail doctrine. This doctrine was highly reflected in politics during the financial crisis in 2008, which begun in the USA after the bubble on a real estate market burst and irresponsible activities of investment banks were disclosed. The investment banks undertook higher risk than they were able to manage. After the bubble burst, consequences of fall of some investment banks would have been more serious than amount of money that was actually needed for bail-out. In order to limit such consequences in future, the BRRD was prepared to tackle this issue. The BRRD...
The contribution of echocardiography in patients with cardiac resynchronization therapy
Praus, Rudolf ; Pařízek, Petr (advisor) ; Neužil, Petr (referee) ; Fiala, Martin (referee)
Introduction Chronic heart failure (CHF) is the subject of increased interest in the medical community, because of the high number of affected persons and also with regard to the resulting socio-economic impacts. Understanding the relationship between echocardiography and cardiac resynchronization therapy will allow better identification of potential responders and non-responders, which is very important because of the relatively high costs of this treatment. Objective Based on our own experience and comparison with literature data to evaluate the importance of echocardiography in cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). Methods One day before implantation, and at 3 and 15 months after implantation, we assessed: NYHA class, quality of life (QoL) and the 6-minute walk test (6MWT). In addition to a standard echocardiography, we assessed the presence of ventricular dyssynchrony and right ventricular (RV) systolic function by tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion and by pulsed tissue Doppler imaging (myocardial peak systolic velocity was measured at the tricuspid annulus). In 40 patients was compared echocardiographic, electrocardiographic and automated approach to optimization of biventricular pacemaker - interventricular delay (VV delay - VVD). Every patient in whom the quality of life, NYHA...

Properties of Cantor function Author: Martin Fiala Supervisor: Stanislav Hencl Abstract: In the present thesis we study main properties of the Can- tor function (sometimes called Cantor Devil's staircase in popular lit- erature), named after significant german mathematician Georg Cantor ( 3 March 1845 in St Petersburg, 6 Jan 1918 in Halle). 1
The effect of biotic stress on nitrogen metabolism in tobacco plants
Fiala, Martin ; Ryšlavá, Helena (advisor) ; Müller, Karel (referee)
In this project the effect of viral infection on the metabolism of nitrogenous compounds in tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Petit Havana SR1) was studied. The tobacco plants were infected with Potato virus Y, strain NTN, ELISA confirmed the presence of the virus. Enzymes that participate in C4 plants in Hatch-Slack cycle fosfoenolpyruvate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.31, PEPC), NADP-dependent malic enzyme (EC 1.1.1.40, NADP-ME), pyruvate, phosphate dikinase (EC 2.7.9.1, PPDK) are present also in C3 plants and are related to plant responses to stress conditions. As a result of viral infection, the activities of all these enzymes were increased. Infection caused by PVYNTN decreased activity of nitrate reductase (EC 1.7.1.1, NR), an enzyme catalyzing reduction of nitrates to nitrites. The activity of enzymes catalyzing the synthesis of glutamine from glutamate and ammonium ions: glutamine synthetase (EC 6.3.2.1, GS) and glutamate synthase (EC 1.4.1.14, GOGAT) was enhanced. In addition to this main route of nitrogen fixation the plant can still use glutamate dehydrogenase (EC 1.4.1.2, GDH). This enzyme can also catalyze the opposite reaction, deamination of glutamate. The direction of response depends on environmental conditions. In this case a significant increase of oxidative-deaminating activity...
Influence of sucrose in culture medium on phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase activity in tobacco leaves
Fiala, Martin ; Ryšlavá, Helena (advisor) ; Hoffmeisterová, Hana (referee)
Plants are under physiological conditions autotrophic organisms that are capable to fix CO2 for the synthesis of carbohydrates. Metabolism of plants may be affected by presence of sucrose in the culture medium. The aim of this study was to determine whether activity of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.31, PEPC) and nitrate reductase (EC 1.7.1.1, NR) were affected by the presence of sucrose in the culture medium. PEPC plays important role in photosynthesis of C4 and CAM plants; in C3 plants PEPC plays an anaplerotic role by replenishing of citric acid cycle intermediates and providing carbon skeletons to support nitrogen assimilation. PEPC activity in plants grown in culture medium with sucrose was about 70 % higher than in plants grown without sucrose. Level of phosphorylation of PEPC was studied by detemnination of PEPC activity after alkaline phosphatase treatment, activation of PEPC by D-glucose-6-phosphate and inhibition of PEPC by L-malate. PEPC activity after dephosphorylation in both groups of plants was decreased at similar level. Also activation of PEPC by D-glucose-6-phosphate and inhibition of PEPC by L-malate was very similar in plants grown with sucrose and without sucrose. NR is a key enzyme in nitrogen fixation. Activity of NR in plants grown with sucrose was about 90 %...
