The alchemist Edward Kelley. The story of a man called "Engellender"

This diploma thesis is focused on the alchemist Edward Kelley who is missed out in Czech historiography so far. He is a very interesting person and there are many legends related to him, which are sometimes hard to differentiate from the reality. Kelley was born in 1555 in an English town called Worcester but he also lived in Bohemia for a long time. It is important that he took service with scholar John Dee who was engaged by the court of the Queen Elizabeth I. With this man which was looking for the right medium in so called angelic conversations, that should show him the way to reach the entire knowledge, he undertook a journey round Europe. They came to Bohemia in the year 1584 and Kelley stayed there until his death in 1597. The Prague court of Rudolf II. represented optimal background for scholars and artists of diverse countries and it was also attractive for a lot of cozeners interested in earning money.

V letech 1814, 1815 a 1818 podnikl Karel Kramerius (1797-1874), syn známého nakladatele a novináře Václava Matěje Krameria (1753-1808), spolu se svými přáteli Karlem Michelem či Janem Šťasným tři velké prázdninové cesty po Čechách. Cílem těchto cest byly převážně zříceniny hradů, němí svědci minulosti, kterou Karel Kramerius tolik toužil poznat. Tato práce čtenáři přináší především edici tří cestovních deníků, které si Karel Kramerius na těchto cestách psal. Kromě podrobných popisů zřícenin hradů, často provázené vlastnoruční kresbou, deníky obsahují též popisy ostatních historických objektů (zámků, klášterů, přírodních památek), krajin, průběhu cesty a příhod, které cestovatelům putování od vesnice k vesnici zpestřovaly. Při poznávání vlasti se setkávali s obrozenci, příbuznými, přáteli, i prostým lidem. Karel Kramerius vyrůstal ve vlasteneckém ovzduší, vytvořeném již probíhajícím národním obrozením, a v době počínajícího českého romantismu. Oba tyto myšlenkové proudy se promítly v jeho denících. Avšak zatímco vlastenecké cítění se rozvinulo v plné šíři, romantické vnímání zřícenin a přírody zde sledujeme zatím jen v náznacích. Apothecaries in the Czech countries in the early modern period

The thesis deals with the history of apothecaries and pharmacists until 1170. Its primary focus is on the apothecaries who were working in Prague. The first part of this thesis treats of pharmacy development in Europe and continues with the general development of pharmacists and apothecaries in the Czech lands. It does provide a complex overview of pharmacists acting in Prague, whose records are being retained in archive sources. Except for proffesional degree of pharmacists the thesis also describes Medicinal rules, which they had to follow. The thesis also describes equipment and instruments that the pharmacists were using on daily basis. Further, the thesis focuses on the pharmacy atmosphere that used to have its mysterious specificity. In the conclusion, a short excursion to a Prague pharmacy is described.

The development of the Jewish community in Kolín in the 18th century. The population, crafts, administration in comparison

The comparison of two biggest jewish communities in the Czech country, Kolín and Libeň, show us in virtue of performed research the different making of them. On the one hand its population grew in the same way up. Many of the inhabitants come from other cities, mainly from Nový Bydžov and Praha, also some from Poland or Germany. On the other hand show the differents in crafts, taxes collection and administration. In Kolín were more tradesmen and merchants, in Libeň dominated the manufacturing of clothes. The real jewish ribbon manufacture in Libeň was established at the end of eighties of 18th century. Surprising is result of research the taxes. The Jews from Kolin, although they had less incomes, had to collect twice more contribution tax than the Jews from Libeň. The contribution tax rises about one third during the 18th century. The administration of Jews in Kolín was privileged due to direct management of Czech chamber. But the the economic situation was different, the Jews from Libeň were for Praha more important. Guild of cultivators of glass - Polevsko, Falknov. Foundation and activity

Předkládaná rigorózní práce Je doplněním poznatků, které byly zapsány v magisterské práci týkající se polevsko-falknovského cechovního zřízení. Magisterská práce byla obhájena v lednu 2006 na katedře Pomocných věd historických a archivního studia Filozofické fakulty Unizerzity Karlovy Praha. Původní práce byla doplněna nejen o načtenou literaturu, ale především o kapitolu týkající se cechovní a sklářské legislativy od konce 17. století do počátku 19. století. Rigorózní práce se snaží zachytit vznik, činnost a vývoj cechů zušlechťovatelů skla na Českolipsku se zaměřením na polevsko-falknovský cech. V jejím rámci jsem porovnala jednotlivá cechovní privilegia zušlechťovatelů skla v obcích Polevsko a Falknov, Kamenický Šenova Chřibská. Snažila jsem se také zachytit počty mistrů, tovaryšů a učňů v polevsko-falknovském cechu a zjistit, z kterých konkrétních obcí členové cechu pocházeli. Zjišťovala jsem zejména frekvenci a obsah cechovních schůzí, poplatky za vyučení a tovaryšství, za mistrovské zkoušky a dále jsem se snažila podchytit běžný "život" cechu, např. spory, které mezi sebou cechy vedly, jednotlivé stížnosti členů cechovních zřízení, ale i pomoc členů cechu ostatním členům či jejich rodinám, např. při úmrtí. 1 Dále jsem se zaměřila na legislativu, která vycházela z centrálních institucí a týkala se jak...

International relations of the Czechoslovak (Czech) archives after 1918 up to the present

The objective of this thesis is to cover the development of international relations of the Czechoslovak and Czech archival science after 1918 up to this day. The international relations primarily stand for the forms of cooperation under the patronage of full statehood, the support on the part of official authority and also scientific institutions. Likewise, the Czech archivists' research at the external archives has been taken into account. It was initiated more intensively in connection with the constitution of our archival administration after 1954. Being a part of the thesis, the overview of official journeys was compiled on the basis of our archivists' reports from the official trips. These reports create a part of the register office that belongs to the Department of the Archives Administration at the Ministry of the Interior. Although the international relations have to all intents and purposes begun to develop aťter 1945. this thesis also includes chapters dealing with the Czechoslovak archival science development after 1918 and the restitutional proceeding in the sphere of archival science after the World War I and World War II. The correspondence of Pavel Papáček with Alois Gallat, Václav Ježek, Josef Poslt and Eduard Strass

This dissertation introduced the correspondence exchanged between Pavel Papáček, Alois Gallat, Václav Ježek, Josef Poslt and Eduard Strass. All of them are bound by their relation to Chrudim. Some of them (Pavel Papáček, Václav Ježek, Eduard Strass) were bom in Chrudim and spent a part of life here, others came to eam their living (Alois Gallat, Josef Poslt). They were all active participants in the social and cultural life of Chrudim or were lively interested in it (Pavel Papáček). The correspondence is placed in an edition and deposited in the Chrudim Regional museum and in the State district archive in Chrudim. It wasn't published so far. Seen in time, the correspondence involves a period from 1888-1930 (the death of Pavel Papáček), whereas some spells are not preserved or remained just as fragments. In the edition it is sorted in alphabetical order according to the names of senders (Alois Gallat, Václav Ježek, Josef Poslt, Eduard Strass) or chronologically, excluding the letters of Pavel Papáček, which are inserted between the above mentioned sections sorted either by the name of the addressee or by time. According to the theme, the letters may be divided into five groups, which correspond to time: until 1922, 1922-1923, 1923-1925, 1926-1928 a 1928-1930. The diploma work "Life ofTownsmen oj Soběslav in years 1525 - 1550 from the point oj view oj thJir testaments" is based on survey of extant last wills of men and woman, available for the tracked period in the State District Archiv (Státní okresní archiv) in Tábor. Is brings the set of early modem testaments and estate indices of Townsmen of Soběslav to the laic public and professionals, it maps testamentary practice in survile town, allows to leam the way of life of folk people, vocational and social stratification of early modem comunities and financial management of single housholds. In this rare way it points sout the relation of men to the God, their way of thinking and sensing the world on the threshold of life, mutual relationships in a family and connections to its closest relatives.

The diaries of Zdenka Braunerová (1873-1883)

Zdenka Braunerová je v povědomí širší veřejnosti zapsána jako česká výtvarnice, malířka. Přestože sama sebe vnímala a považovala za krajinářku, významná a mnohem více ceněná je především její tvorba v oblasti knižní grafiky. Její přínos a význam pro české umění je dokonce přirovnáván k významu Boženy· Němcové pro českou literaturu. Mnohem méně je již známa skutečnost, že se jedná o první plně profesionální českou malířku. Rozhodnutí stát se nezávislou a soběstačnou umělkyní a především pak jeho realizace, však narážely na zažité představy o postavení a funkci ženy ve společnosti. Z tohoto důvodu se stala jakýmsi symbolem vzepření se proti dobovým konvencím či maloměšťáctví. V minulosti bylo napsáno mnoho biografických, umělecko-historických či populárně naučných publikací, studentských prací i odborných článků zabývajících se životem či jednotlivými aspekty života této malířky. Přesto zájem o život a dílo Zdenky Braunerové neutichá, což lze vysvětlit nejen významem této osobnosti pro českou kulturu, ale také specifičností jejího života, který stále láká k novému zkoumání a objevování nových souvislostí. Vliv na badatelský zájem má nepochybně také neuvěřitelně rozsáhlá pozůstalost rozptýlená po mnoha českých i zahraničních institucích. International relations of the Czechoslovak (Czech) archives after 1918 up to the present

Cílem předkládané práce je postíhnout mezinárodní vztahy českého, respektive československého archivnictví po roce 1918 do současnosti. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jedná o časově poměrně rozsáhlý úsek, bylo nutné rozčlenit práci do několika kapitol podle časových období. Samotnému jádru práce předchází rozbor použi tých pramenů a literatury. Úvodní kapitola je věnována děj inám čes kého archivnictví po roce 1918, která byla zařazena s ohledem na celkově složitý organizační tématu. vývoj našeho archivnictví a lepší pochopení Předem je nutné upozornit, že smyslem práce a jejím cílem je zmapovat mezinárodní vztahy a vazby českého archivnictví, které se začaly rýsovat po roce 1918 a v průběhu let se dále tvořily a upevňovaly. Mezinárodními styky jsou přitom myšleny především případy spolupráce, která je již zaštítěna jak plnou státní suverenitou a oficiální podporou úředních míst, tak i vědeckými organizacemi. Tato koncepce zachovává linii textu na úrovni mezinárodních vztahů v pravém slova smyslu. Příkladem může být téma archivní rozluky, kde se výklad úmyslně nezabývá přehledem konkrétních fondů a jejich osudů v rámci rozlukových prací, ale sleduj e jednání a diplomatické kroky, které byly v tomto směru podniknuty a hodnotí výsledky, kterých bylo dosaženo. S ohledem na jednotlivých kapitolách jednotlivých států.
