Edvard Beneš was a popular stateman and respected diplomat. After World War Two the communists came into power. It was a critical time for Edvard Beneš. He was seriously ill and political progress was different from his political opinion. The aim of this work is to find out how the contemporery press delt with the person of Edvard Beneš in the years 1945 and 1948. I've chosen lour important terms of his life. I've also chosen two daily papers: Rudé právo, which was the newspaper of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and Svobodné slovo, which was the newspaper of the National Social Party of Czechoslovakia. I was also interested in the activites of the censorship, which was controlled by the Communist Party. In the first chapter I describe the way the two contemporary dailies looked like. At the same time I focused on the influence of censorship. The second chapter deals with the person of Edvard Beneš, his life and his political work. The third chapter is divided into two parts. The first part speaks about Edvard Beneš's return home. The second part describes three terms in the year 1948. Media presentation of the death of Jan Masaryk in Czech press in the years 1968 and 1969
Niklová, Jana ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The target of the thesis was to prove that changing political situation and situation around censorship in the years 1968 and 1969. int1uenced the media presentation of the death of former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czechoslovak Republic Jan Masaryk. He died in 1948 under the strange and unexplained circumstances, shortly after the communist party took control over the Republic. The only one official version valid for 20 years was that he undoubtedly committed suicide. I assumed that after the revolutionary social changes and liberalisation in the year 1968, called Prague spring, a lot of theories and versions of Masaryk's death (murder, political murder. accident...) occurred in the newspaper. My hypothesis was that after the restoration of restrictions in society and restoration of censorship after the invasion of armies of Warsaw pact in August 1968 and during so called Normalisation, the media presentation of the Masaryk's death turned into the state that was valid for the previous twenty years - suicide, and that the number of articles decreased rapidly. After serving few hundred years under the reign of Habsburc monarchy the Czech nation was trying to establish itself like a more independent part of the monarchy or like a new and independent state outside from the Habsburc monarchy. Activities of this movement were called National renaissance and it culminated during the First World War at that time led by Mr. Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, who was supporter of independent Czech state formed as democratic republic. The end of the First World War was a big victory for efforts to establish the new Czech state with cooperation with the similar efforts of Slovaks. To support this efforts there was created a new nation of Czechoslovaks and all the claims for territory and new state for this nation were done together with Slovaks. A new map for eastern Europe was laid out in the Paris conference in 1919 and seven new states were established in that conference as independent and democratic, one of them was Czechoslovak republic, usually known under the name Czechoslovakia. Chrudimské noviny - regional weekly and political changes 1938-1942
Baťa, Blahoslav ; Sekera, Martin (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The central theme of this project was the influence of political change on the contents of the regional weekly Chrudimske noviny published from the beginning of 1938 to October of 1942. Above all I have observated its manifestation in the main political article using content and language analysis as a method of my work. Firstly I outlined political, economical and social situation of the period. I also reffered to the censorship and media legislation influential to the work of journalists and to the establishment, organization and background of the weekly as well as persons who had influenced its contents. The main analysis was divided into the three main parts in accordance with three historical periods determined by distinctive political regimes (January 1938- September 1938, October 1938 - 15th March 1939, March - October 1942). As body of texts for the analysis itself served the most significant publisher policy expressing text in the examined periodical - the editorial. I started the analysis by defining several most significant areas covered by the weekly in each above mentioned period (eg. problem of nationhood, the czech-german relations, defense policy, local election...) and by narrowing down the editorials dealing with one of these topics.
