Work-life balance is very actual them not only of political debate due to the low fertility and more and more discussed gender equality. The aim of the thesis is a comparison of family policy in the Czech Republic, and family policy in Belgium and resulting evaluation of ability of policy to promote work-life balance environment. While Belgium belongs between countries with high fertility and high employment rate of mothers in the European Union, Czech Republic is an opposite case. Belgium creates a comprehensive system of childcare and flexible working possibilities for parents. Together it gives the opportunity for harmonization of carrier and care of family. Belgium could be an inspiration for the Czech Republic in area of family policy, where the Czech Republic still lags far behind.

The phenomenon of unemployment is very actual in this time due to the economic crisis. It is also hotly contested topic. The state is trying to deal with it with different instruments. One of the most used is retraining course. The aim of the thesis is an evaluation of the effectiveness of training courses in region of Pardubice in period 2009-2013. This region is average in the Czech Republic from the point of view of unemployment. The situation on the labor market in this region isn't critical and active labor policy works at a good level. The conclusion of the thesis is, that the training courses are effective instrument at all, but if we concentrate only on the projects of EFS, there were found out same inadequacies. Mainly in combination of training courses and other tools of active labor policy. The thesis confirmed the hypothesis that the training courses are more favourable than a subsidizing of unemployed people, who are registered in employment office
