Single-Party Regimes in Comparison: China, Malaysia and Singapore

Diploma thesis Single-Party Regimes in Comparison: China, Malaysia and Singapore is devoted to non-democratic regimes in which one party dominates and which legitimize by the concept of Asian values. The first part deals with the most important typologies and to approaches to explore single-party regimes. The second part introduced changes and the very concept of Asian values according to which democracy is unsuitable for Asian countries because of cultural differences. Other parts are devoted to describe the regimes in China, Malaysia and Singapore, which are classified into different typologies. The aim of the work is to show that Asian values don't explain the genesis of these regimes or their forms of non- democratic governance.
Development and changes of the Communist Party of Vietnam

This thesis focuses on the study of factionalism in the Communist Party of Vietnam and relates it to the recent problems of the Vietnamese regime. In order to determine the causes of the current crisis in Vietnam and introduce the environment in which Vietnamese elites operate, this study analyses both formal and informal structures of the political system of Vietnam and the principles of their functioning. This thesis criticizes misleading usage of faction as an analytical tool in the works on Vietnam and presents Andrew Nathan's factional model elaborated for China which is applied to Vietnam in a slightly changed form. We present evidence showing that the central political arena in Vietnam displays factional characteristics. Those findings are linked to the problem immobilism in Vietnam which is connected with instability caused by the absence of political initiatives and needed reforms (mainly the political one). Attention is also drawn to the need for the development of a theory of factionalism. Key words: The Communist Party of Vietnam, factional theories, political system of Vietnam
Village elections in China- a step towards democracy?

The diploma thesis "Village elections in China - a step towards democracy?" focuses on the development of local institutions of village self-government that has taken place in China since mid-1980s. Author tries to explain the phenomena in broader context of development of entire Chinese countryside. Another goal of the thesis is to answer, whether the implementation of direct elections to Chinese countryside can help to promote democratization in China or whether it plays some other, different role.
Failure of Belarussion Transition: Delegative Democracy?

Thesis "Failure of Belarussian Transition: Delegative Democracy?" consists of two main parts. The first part is focused on process of transition in Belarus. As a theoretical framework a theory from Samuel Huntington was used. His theory proposes whole typology of transitions to democracy. The analysis of transition in Belarus focuses on strength and motives of constituent actors. The aim of the second part is then a contemporary regime and an attempt to analyse the logic of the regime. Theory of hybrid regimes was used as a theoretical framework, and was mostly focused on theory of Delegative Democracy form Guillermo O'Donnell. An Application of Political Theories on the Transformation of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia after 1989

The Bachelor thesis focuses on the development of the transmission power of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia to Civic Forum within the Czechoslovak state from the revolutionary events of November 1989 to the end of the year. It also seeks to typologies characteristic of social science authors of the transitologist processes and applies them to the case of Czechoslovak transition from non - democracy to consolidated democratic system by the first free elections in 1990. Moreover the emphasis is placed on the analysis of transformed the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, internal respectively external transformation of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, or the theory of anti-system approach used to apply and analyze the example of the Czech Communist Party.

At first, the work shortly considers the colonial period, the formation of the political system after gaining the independence, and the course of the non-democratic regime as well as its end.

The essay focuses on process of democratization in Botswana and Nigeria, examining factors which played important roles during this process. Based on the theories of democratization the essay evaluates whether these factors contribute positively or rather negatively to democratization of the countries. The essay deals with history of Botswana and Nigeria, transition to democracy and geopolitical, socioeconomic and historical aspects.
