Kotíková, Petra ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
The thesis focuses on influence of the AMS (Additional Member System) upon party systems of Scotland and Wales. This system is used for elections to Scottish parliament and Welsh national assembly. It was applied for the first election that was held in 1999 and it is still in use. This means AMS is used in both regions for the same time period, which allows us to compare the influence which the system has in different environment. The thesis analyzes results of all elections that were held in Scotland and Wales and defines their influence on particular parties and party systems it operates in. On the basis of these findings the general influence of AMS is formulated. Theoretical concepts by Maurice Duverger and Giovanni Sartori are used as a background for study of election systems and party systems. The position voter support and its changes are analyzed through valence theory, which uses opinion polls to explain election results. At the first sight the AMS seems to be the same one as another election system - MMP (Mixed Member Proportional). These systems are often confused or perceived as the same ones. So except the election results analysis this thesis explains also the difference between these systems and classifies them into right categories. It shows up that each of the systems belongs to...

Dudycha, Petr ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The diploma thesis called 'the concept of referendums in democracy: a comparison of the Scottish and Catalan models', deals with the question of referendum in democracy which is an instrument for countries to become independent. The referendum is correctly known as a constitutional referendum. This thesis also deals with the application of a constitutional referendum in the cases of Scotland and Catalonia. The main purpose of this research is to analyse the conduct of the Scottish and Catalan referendums for independence, both of which were held in the autumn of 2014. The paper looks to identify the similarities and differences between these two examples. Both cases are based on seven variables in the research of referendums: 1) constitutional framework for holding a referendum of independence, 2) identification of the basic political process leading to a referendum, 3) organizational-administrative regulation of a referendum, 4) issues during the referendum campaign, 5) opinion polls for the referendum, 6) results of the referendum and 7) predicted consequences of the referendum. The final purpose of this thesis is to assess how these two models reflect on the current constitutional practice in a democratic society.

Süssová, Karolína ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Stauber, Jakub (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Programmatic shift of the Czech Green party: a changing concept of environmental policy" provides an analysis of program's development of the Czech Green party, a specific party of the Czech party system. I use a comparison of available electoral programs prepared by party for elections to the Chamber of Deputies from 1990 to 2013.The comparison reflects both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis of the electoral programs. The greatest emphasis is placed on environmental topics and green policy. This analysis is set in the context of the historical development of the party, which is generally feature of Green Parties. That is why I also concentrate on two basic concepts of ecological thinking - environmentalism and ecologism, whose different approaches are reflected in the political reality of Green Parties as an ideological conflict by moderates (realos) and radicals (fundis).
Media reflection of partisan leader and its influence upon electoral success of the party in parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic
Vocel, Jan ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
The key research question for my bachelor thesis deals with the problem of how great is the media image influence of the leader of a political party on the success in the elections. I will try to answer this question in the case of Jiri Paroubek, who was the leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2006. I decided to verify these theories, that explain the issue of leader and election campaign personalization. Then I carried out my research on two of the most famous newspapers on the right and left of the political spectrum: finding out how positive or negative was before the election the media image of Jiri Paroubek and Czech Social Democratic Party in these two newspapers. The research results are then compared with the pre-election opinion polls and election results and verified, if the media image of Jiri Paroubek was really different from his political party and whether it had an impact on the electoral success. It could help verify the validity of several theories, that leadership attributes of the leader have the great influence on the success of his party.

Influence and role of Sweden in EU immigration policy since 2000
Jandová, Monika ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This thesis aims to monitor the influence of Sweden on the process of making immigration policy after 2000. In the first chapter the thesis outlines the initial effort to harmonize EU immigration policy before 2000 in order to build on the description of the current situation. In the second chapter the thesis describes the development of Swedish policy towards immigrants from third countries and proves that an open attitude towards immigrants comes from the Swedish experience during the World War II. In the third chapter two levels of legislative processes of the EU are monitored. First, it is described how the rules for the adoption of legislation on immigration are generated and second the process of adopting particular legislative proposals is described. These three chapters make theoretical background for the analysis the role of Sweden in adopting both types of legislation since 2000. Based on the analysis the author concludes that the influence of each Member State in the EU legislative process is very complicated, if not impossible, to study, mainly because of the lack of transparency in the whole process. One of the biggest shortcomings the author considers is the fact that Member States do not public their positions on particular issue when negotiating legislative proposals in the working groups...
