In this work I comment on four autobiographical fictions in contemporary Czech video-art. I set them into the wider context of contemporary thinking on creation of personal identity and self narration from the point of view of psychology, sociology and narratology. My theoretical assumptions are both confirmed and undermined by the statements made by the artists themselves. Categories like fiction/ non-fiction, personal/social blur its boundaries as the work progresses. Through the form of narrative may take on different disguises its role still seems to be crucial in understanding our lives and artworks.
