The theme od this work is nanocrystalline TiO2 anatase with a large proportion of crystal facets (001): electrochemical properties and performance in dye sensitized solar cell.
Catalytic and photocatalytic processes on 18O-labeled TiO2
Kavan, Ladislav ; Zukalová, Markéta ; Ferus, Martin ; Kürti, J. ; Koltai, J. ; Civiš, Svatopluk
18O-isotope labelled titania (anatase, rutile) was synthesized. The products were characterized by Raman spectra together with their quantum chemical modelling. The interaction with carbon dioxide was investigated using high-resolution FTIR spectroscopy, in dark and upon UV-excitation. The oxygen isotope exchange at the Ti18O2/C16O2 interface was elucidated. The C18O2 was formed as the dominating final product with a minor content of C16O18O. The rate of oxygen-isotope exchange is highly sensitive to the conditions of the titania pretreatment. The vacuum-annealed Ti18O2 at 450 C exhibited a very high spontaneous oxygen exchange activity with gaseous C16O2. A mechanism for the 18O/16O exchange process is discussed at the molecular level. The photocatalytic formation of methane, acetylene and C16O released from the Ti18O2 surface was triggered by an XeCl excimer laser irradiation.

Pecvd method in this contribution we deal with the preparation of thin layers of ZnO, which exhibit interesting photo-sensitive properties. ZnO functional layers were prepared by surfatron by a PECVD method.
Reaction order of photocatalytic degradation of various organic compounds
Krýsa, J. ; Waldner, G. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír ; Grabner, G.
The kinetic of photocatalytic degradation of four different model organic compounds, formic acid (FA), oxalic acid (OA), 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (the herbicide monuron), on irradiated titanium dioxide was compared.
Surface complexation and charge transfer processes in colloidal semiconductors studied by laser flash photolysis
Grabner, G. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír
Aqueous colloidal solutions of quantum sized particles of TiO2 undergo an ageing process beginning with their preparation. In course of time, the mean size of nanoparticles is gradually increasing and some of their physico-chemical properties are changing as well. In the present study, the decrease of the spectral blue shift of the semiconductor absorption threshold was measured to determine the corresponding changes of band gap energy of the Q-TiO2 particles.
Determination of quantum yield of photocatalytic degradation in suspension and on thin film of titanium dioxide
Měšťánková, Hana ; Zita, J. ; Navrátil, K. ; Krýsa, J. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír
The development of novel photocatalytic materials based on nanocrystalline titanium dioxide is a rapidly growing field of science and technology. Parallel to the industrial production and practical use of these materials, simple but reliable procedures for the characterization of their photoactivity are necessary. The testing methods are usually based on relative comparison of the photoefficiency of a probe to a standard under certain conditions.
Physico-chemical properties and phototransformation of ferric citrate complex in aquatic environment
Kolář, Michal ; Abida, O. ; Mailhot, G. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír ; Bolte, M.
Iron is the most abundant transition metal on the Earth. It is present in aquatic environments, soils as well as atmosphere. In the aquatic media, it is often present in a form of Fe(III) complexes, especially, with polycarboxylic acids. Citric acid was chosen as their suitable representative in this study.

Szatmáry, Lórant ; Šubrt, Jan ; Bezdička, Petr ; Jirkovský, Jaromír ; Kete, M. ; Štangar, U. L.
The aim of this work was to prepare the TiO2 layer at different reaction temperatures and to determine the effect of composition and temperature on the photocatalytic activity.
Preparation and properties of TiO2 nanoparticles and their composites
Paušová, Š. ; Mailhot, G. ; Prevot, V. ; Krýsa, J. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír
This paper first describes the behavior of TiO2 nanoparticles in aqueous solution. The second part focuses on the preparation of new nanocomposites based on TiO2 nanoparticles deposited on the inorganic substrate made of multilayer hydroxides (LDH).
