Compression test of a timber core - ANSYS model and moire interferometry experiment
Micka, Michal ; Minster, Jiří ; Václavík, P.
The paper presents results of modelling a non-standard compression test of timber, executed on small diameter cores in a special testing device. The test is semidestructive - friendly to historic timber. Numerical solution for elastic orthotropic material is correlated with results of moire-intererometry experimental data. The approach enables to define strengths and Young´s moduli of the assessed core.
Nondestructive survey of mansory and timber structures of the Church Tower in the Karlštejn Castle
Drdácký, Miloš ; Jirovský, Ivo ; Lesák, Jaroslav
Report summarizes results of NDT survey of masonry and timber structures of the Church Tower of the Karlštejn Castle. The applied methods involve passive thermography for masonry, X-ray, core drilling, resistance micro drilling and visual assessment for timber.
Experimental methods for study of historical structures
Drdácký, Miloš ; Jirovský, Ivo ; Lesák, Jaroslav ; Pospíšil, Stanislav ; Slížková, Zuzana ; Valach, Jaroslav ; Vavřík, Daniel
The paper presents a review of selected experimental methods for study of historic materials and structures, which have been developed or applied in the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague. It discusses peculiarities of the experimental investigation of historic structures and materials, which influence basic methodological approach. The contribution is focused especially on nonstandard methods of study of material characteristics and on testing of historic structures subjected to environmental loads or actions.
Objective time derivative defined as covariant deriative
Fiala, Zdeněk
A geometrically based approach, definining the time derivative as a covariant derivative in an appropriate nonlinear space - the infinite dimensional Riemannian manifold of deformation tensors, will be employed, and, via coordinate approach, the covariant derivative and its corresponding time derivative of an arbotrary tensor field will be explicitly expressed.
