It is focused on their influence on political decision-making process, which is expressed by the influence of elite on reigning Naṣrid dynasty. It examines the elite denomination in contemporary Arabic written sources, their links and delimitations. These were mainly common economic and power interests. On the basis of the ǧāh pyramid it focuses on each aspect: Sovereign as a source of legitimacy of political power, the vizier as a major counterpart to the ruler, the inner circle of emir in which was concentrated the remaining part of the political elite, and also the Naṣrid women. Political development in post-Saddam Iraq. The Shia between sectarianism and nationalism.
Klasová, Pamela Markéta ; Gombár, Eduard (advisor) ; Ženka, Josef (referee)
This thesis examines the Iraqi Shia community's evolving approach towards and their position in the Iraqi state, especially after the American-led invasion in 2003. The focus is on concepts of nationalism, sectarianism, and identity within the Iraqi state and the Shia community. This thesis is subdivided into two main parts, the first of which considers the time period before 2003. Contemporary Shia identity and standing in Iraq was forged in the crucible of pre-2003 Iraq, so a thorough background in this time period is essential for understanding events after the invasion. Since the founding of the modern Iraqi state, and even during Ottoman times, Shias have traditionally been excluded from positions of power. This political division reflected the socioeconomic divide between the wealthier Sunni and poorer Shia communities. This situation resulted in sharp barriers between Sunnis and Shias. Although the Sunni-dominated monarchy was not actively trying to incorporate the Shias, economic and educational progress eventually reached some in the Shia community beginning in the 1930s and 1940s, and several of these sectarian barriers faded. Partly due to a secularizing trend, the 1950s and 1960s (the "intermezzo" republican period) witnessed the greatest amount of intermingling between these sects in...
Granada elites in the 15th century
Ženka, Josef ; Veselý, Rudolf (referee) ; Gombár, Eduard (advisor)
Th e work deals with the inner history of the Nasrid emirate in the fi fteenth century, emphasizing the behaviour of the elite families and their relationship to the ruling power. According to the analysis of the contemporary sources the author determined the genealogy of the most prominent families. He subsequently concentrates on their mutual relationship, their action during the coup, and their ruling power in the course of the fi fteenth century. What emerge here as dominant elements are Muhammad IX.'s elites. As they participated in every single coup, they gained substantial power and to a large degree contributed to the decline of the emirate. Th e author pays attention to the growing power of the Granadan families' high representatives to the exclusion of the king's power, which resulted into the disintegration of the emirate. It's the attendant phenomenon on the events of the fi fteenth century. Th e work also deals with the fi nal confl ict among the elite families in the Granadan War, which was the culmination of the dynastic argument and entailed the decline of the emirate.
