Putting Modern Czech Poetry to Music

The topič of the dissertation "Putting Modern Czech Poetry to Music" is divided into three parts. The aesthetic horizon illustrates that relation between poetry and music makes a fruitful theme in Europe ever since antiquity. Relation between poetry and music served as a subject of various studies and a topič of professional discussions in the 20th century. We consider the works of O. Zich, R. Wellek and A. Sychra the most useful scientifíc publications for the subject matter. Relation between poetry and music formed the subject of a dissertation written in 1989 primarily dealing with a melodiousness of poetry and the poetry in the 19th century. The book "Sung Poetry" of V. Merta enables us to look at poetry and at the process of putting it to music from the pcrspective of a musician. The heuristic part registers the poems put in music published on audio dises between November 1989 and September 2008. The list is made up for future use in educational practice, and contains 251 poems. The list itself is preceded by the chapter "Material and Methodological Procedures" that deseribes primarily the process of making up the list, and specifíes its use, with comments on narrowing the selection.
