Švantner, Martin ; Kouba, Petr (advisor) ; Marcelli, Miroslav (referee)
This master's thesis is concerned with the partial issues of Michel Foucault's work in respect to his major issue, which is the concept of power. The introductory part of the thesis points out the "naive approach" of some fields of politology, in particular empirical and analytical ones, which as "the science of power" either leaves out or provides only positivist analyses. At the same time it suggests the relationship between power, discourse, exclusion and mediation, which is the key one for the whole paper. In oder to enhance the understanding of the power relations, the thesis attempts to provide insights into Foucault's thought in its complexity. Finally, his basis for understanding the power and discourse relation is interraleted with those of Ulrich Beck, which enables us to approach this relation as appears in the late modern society from a new perspective.
