Teaching-space paradigm
Dimitrov, Georgi ; Štojdl, Václav (referee) ; Kristek, Jan (advisor)
The project is dealing with building of a new Faculty of Architecture at BUT. The target area is located on one of BUT campuses between Údolní, Úvoz and Tvrdého streets. The proposal envisages the placement of the entire FA program in the building of the former barracks from the 19th century on Úvoz Street and adjoining outbuildings. The "extension" is not only an extension, as an enlargement of an existing building, but it is an opportunity for its reconfiguration. This creates a hybrid, a game between the old and the new, which forms a new way of using the object. Programmatically, the entire proposal is divided according to three levels of accessibility: the public, students and teachers and employees. The spatial solution is then solved as the mutual interaction of the three groups of users.

The contemporary reduction of intimacy to instinctive sexuality, when the general availability of nudity causes decline of feelings such as desire for another person, and serves only as a mean to satisfy one's physical needs. Porn saturates the tension of current times. Attraction and yearning are not catalyzed by the sight of a naked body, but by a gesture, a move, or a subtle hint of unveiling the body and expressing the person's interest. That hint forms a fascination. A quick tease of imagination forces the inner tension to rise, relating to the fact that we are unaware of what is happening at the opposite side - in an inaccessible area. Our own nudity on top of that.
Our estranged spaces
Jelínková, Anna ; Štojdl, Václav (referee) ; Kristek, Jan (advisor)
The project is a continuation of the pre-diploma thesis, which was focused on urban voids and "vacant" spaces in the city centre of Chrudim. To understand the urban voids it utilizes Ignasi de Sol-Morales' Terrain vague concept, which questions the emptiness of such spaces. From the perspective of economic yield, the empty spaces may lie outside the systemic circuits of the city, but at the same time they are certainly not without any content. Examples include urban wilderness in the form of encroachments and R-ecosystems that take hold there, or various non-systemic activities for which there is no space left elsewhere. In their ambivalence between emptiness and content, such places embody the possibility of a systemic alternative that has not yet been defined. The diploma thesis then explores the idea of whether the principles of vagueness can be applied to the search for alternative forms of living and coliving.
Structuralism for the 21st Century
Vojtíšek, Martin ; Štojdl, Václav (referee) ; Rozwalka, Szymon (advisor)
Nomos is partly a theoretical project that explores differences between Dutch Structuralism and Japanese Metabolism and tries to find a contemporary architectural system, that is intended as a contemporary interpretation of these movements. The project emphasizes an underutilization of the changeability of our environment and tries to incorporate it into the design of the system so that the user can customize it. It explores ways to combine the benefits of organic growth and modular design through the simulation of a reaction-diffusion. The application of the system shows a possible solution in a specific context with the design of a fragment.
Modernity and the Holocaust
Petrova, Kseniia ; Štojdl, Václav (referee) ; Rozwalka, Szymon (advisor)
This graduation project is devoted to the creation of a museum in Brno devoted to the Holocaust and the history of the Jews in Moravia. The site is located in the center of Brno on Benešova Street. The site is currently occupied by a parking lot, which formerly served as a parking lot for an old bus vocalist. This project is inspired by the great and complicated history of the Jewish people, as well as the main language of this nation. In my opinion, nothing reflects the culture and identity of a people better than language. For this reason, it was inspired by Hebrew. For a people who have lost their statehood, who have not lived in their historic homeland for several thousand years, but who have retained their religion and national identity, this is an indication of strength of spirit and unity.
Modernity and the Holocaust
Harlenderová, Eva ; Štojdl, Václav (referee) ; Rozwalka, Szymon (advisor)
The diploma thesis builds on the knowledge gained during the preparation of the pre-diploma thesis in the previous semester. The main outputs for the thesis were the book Modernity and the Holocaust by the Polish sociologist Zygmund Bauman and the concept of „otherness“ defined by the architect Peter Eisenman when designing the Jewish Memorial in Berlin. On the basis of these findings, I prepared maps that dealt with otherness from the perspective of majority and minority societies and maps of the spread of the Jewish community in the city of Brno, which I subsequently based my diploma project on. The task of the diploma project is to design a Holocaust Documentation Centre in Moravia on a predetermined plot of land in Brno. A closed architectural competition was announced for this project. In the design of the above mentioned building, I try to capture the fluidity and changeability of the human community through the architectural language. I think of human society as a continuity and fluidity of individual cultures defined as minority and majority societies. Through architecture I try to express the intermingling, fluidity and instability of the hierarchy of minority and majority communities. In doing so, I create ambiguously dominant and submissive spaces. From one place a space may appear submissive, whereas from another it may appear more dominant.
