The Czech Language and Refugees

The thesis deals with the courses of the Czech language for refugees which are a part of The State Integration Program and which come under The Ministry of The Interior and The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The thesis is aiming to characterize way the teaching is arranged, frequency of courses, what type of topics are widely discussed within and outside Integration Asylum Centers. Also, it is focusing on issues related to the courses of the Czech language for refugees. The thesis is based on terrain research, which should support the theoretical findings. The research was based on interviews with teachers of the Czech language and a social worker of Integration Asylum Centers both in Česká Lípa. It is also based on interviews with a coordinator of the language courses of Czech for refugees and a coordinator for technical and material support of the courses of the Czech language for refugees project. Ceremoniousness connected with birth of a child in Pelhřimov distrikt. The Role of the Midwife from the viewpoint of etnology.

The main theme of this bachelor's thesis is ceremoniousness, which is connected with the birth of a child in Pelhřimov district in the 2nd half of the 19 and the beginning of the 20 century. The second part of the thesis is primarily devoted to related ceremonial acts. The individual chapters are focused on conception of pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium in the folk environment. This very intimate and rarely mapped area of family ceremoniousness is thus seen by means of period literature, articles, archive matters, records and registers. Considering the fact that midwives used to be the principal performers of ceremonial acts connected with the birth of a child the first part of the thesis concetrates on the midwifery issues. It deals with midwives education, their competences and collegial relationships.
Ethnographic and Folcloric Aspects in the Work of František Ladislav Sál

This bachelor thesis is focused on the Eastern Bohemia figure of a regional significance - František Ladislav Sál (1867-1941). The aim of the thesis is to depict him as a representative of the generation of educated teachers - patriotic activists who had the amateur interest in ethnology and folklore studies. The opening section of the thesis introduces both his personal life and career. The reconstruction of these is based on the study of his archive heritage. Subsequent chapter deals with wider cultural-historical context with the emphasis on the history of pedagogy and ethnology. The principle focus of the thesis is the survey of Sál's educational and pedagogical papers in which he plentifully dealt with ethnographical material (such as fairy-tales, legends and children's folklore) by means of which he taught homeland study at primary schools.
Ballroom dancing in cultural contexts

This bachelor thesis is dealing with a ballroom dance in the background of the Prague middle classes society during thirties and forties of 19th century. The work is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the historical development of ballroom dances, a Prague social life and a dancing culture. This part also informs about the location of Prague dancing places, dance specification, dancing fashion, dancing and manners lessons. The next part describes examined periodicals in wider contexts. The final part wellfounded by the recherche results in the significant periodicals (Květy, Česká včela), analyses the most interesting thematic spheres connecting dance and society in contemporary sources. The result of the work is the determination of relation of the forming Czech modern society to the formal dance phenomenon, based on contemporary facts. The work also includes the comprehensive annotation of the formal dance in years 1834 - 1847 in magazines Květy and Česká včela.
Fenomenom of the Living History in Bohemia

This thesis explores in the Czech Republic little explored phenomenon of living history. The motivation for this topic is the author's long-standing interest in this issue and his active participation in similar activities. The thesis aims to characterize the concept of living history and specify this kind of leisure time activity participated by a part of the population in the Czech Republic. It also examines the question of whether living history is a subculture. Therefore, it also describes the concept of subculture through according literature. It also seeks to map or outline and present some living history associations as a sample of the phenomenon based on research. Field research, participant observation, conducted interviews among the members, spectator and active participation in the events and presentations organized by them, and web analytics are used for this. The first chapter deals with the clarification of the concept of experimental archaeology and living history, since the difference between them is essential. Therefore, it describes the contents of experimental archaeology as one of the methods of archaeology and living history as a central theme of the research and the thesis. Marie Kovářová - ethnographer of Podblanicko

This bachelor thesis deals with the personality of Marie Kovářová, ethnographic worker of Podblanicko. It describes her life between the years 1910-1972, from birth to retirement. The major emphasis is placed on the early publication and museum activities. Her biography arose from the analysis of documents stored in Kovářová's personal archive fund and available literature and was supplemented by the information obtained in a small field research. The aim was to evaluate Kovářová's role in the regional homeland work and put her personality into contemporary context of the history of ethnography.
Intimate norms of beauty by women. Depilation and modification of body hair on the example of Czech women.

Martina Greňová: Ženské intimní normy krásy. Depilace a úprava tělesného porostu na příkladu českých žen. FF UK 2011 The author searches for reasons for the body hair removal and its modifications. As the base she uses an analyse of the media and literature and her research among Czech women. The paper emanates, that certain subjects try to define norms of body hair removal. These norms are presented in medical and cosmetical literature, in magazines, internet articles, films, adverts, in the language and in the folklore. Accordingly the normative subjects are doctores, cosmeticians, editors and authors of magazines, participants of internet discussions, film makers and producers of cosmetic products. Nevertheles women participate on the creation of norms too. The author postulates some attitudes, how the hair removal is perceived and presented: as hygienical and medical, as dichotomy of human and animal (nature vs. culture), as dichotomy of feminity and masculinity, as an attribute of maturity, as an esthetic aspect. Most of the women remove hair from their bodies. Young women "shave" more , but the difference between the generations is not that big. Yet a vast difference exists between the age of todays teenagers when they started removing (on an averge of 12 years) and the older generations (at 24 years)...
Material culture in the Orava. Mountain alpine farming.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the tradition of Alpine dairy farming in Slovakia, which has been developing since the 15th or 16th century due to the influence of the Wallachian colonization. The individual chapters of the thesis discuss the cycle of the traditional shepherd's work during the year, the seasonal work during the warm part of the year and also the daily routine and its organization as well as the material culture of the shepherds including their architecture and their diet. The historical passages of the thesis outline the development of the Alpine dairy farming society and the ways in which it works. We also take heed of the individual shepherds within this scope, detailing their professional hierarchy and job description, from the chief shepherd to the lowest-ranking member of their society.
Culture of Renaissance Clothing and Present Times

This thesis deals with the clothing culture of the Renaissance in Europe - particularly the clothing style of Italy, England and Spain at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries and its influence on the costumes of contemporary groups that are engaged in leisure-time amateur fencing or historical period's dance and similar activities. Framework provides a description of both female and male way of clothing. This paper seeks to analyze the generation, rules and features a stylized contemporary costume, and the final chapter also compares the two versions of period costumes, based on long-term participant observation and qualitative field research.
