The Soldiers of the Kaiser. Identities, Experiences and National Awareness of Czech Participants of the First World War The topics of presented dissertation are identities and experiences of Czech soldiers of the First World War. The sources of the dissertation are ego-documents of Czech soldiers, in particular mostly their diaries, in lesser extent also pieces of field correspondence and memoirs. The aim of the dissertation is the analysis of representations of identities, experiences and national awareness of authors of analysed sources. The research questions of the dissertation inquire about representations of constructions of identities in the sources, particularly about national, regional, religious or social identities; about construction of the otherness and depiction of the enemy in texts, about relation to the otherness and potential conflict of loyalties to the Czech national society and to service in the Austro-Hungarian army; about their gender identity; and about the question of construction of corporeality and experience of corporeality and the body as the construct of masculine identity. The presented dissertation belongs to the discipline Historical Anthropology.

National Security Corps 1945-1948

The thesis unravels the problem of creation of Sbor národní bezpečnosti in Czechoslovakia in both of its sections, Public Security and State's Inner Security. The thesis observes the period of 1945- 1948. The intention of the thesis is to form a compact view on a development of the most important office of inner security whose the most important parts had fallen under the control of Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and had become the basic pillar of communist rule until 1989. The thesis also unravels the organisation, counts, decrees, equipment and function of SNB and its relation to the law system including illegal actions commited by members of SNB. The thesis relays on materials located in Security Units Archive Praha Na Struze and Siwiecova Ulice, its extention in Brno Kanice, Archive of the Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic and a publication of J. Czechoslovak maneuvers 1933 - 1938

Main theme of the thesis is the Czechoslovak Maneuvers in 1936. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter focuses on the creation of Czechoslovak army, the perion 1918-1932. The second chapter targets the reorganization of army in the period 1932-1936. The Third chapter is dedicated to the issue of armed forces in the period of the Austrian emperor.The fourth chapter is focused on the Czechoslovak Maneuvres in 1936 and research preparations, course, and made knowleges from the great interwar's maneuvres of Czechoslovak army. The fifth chapter closes arbitration service in the maneuvres. The sixth chapter deals with foreign's delegations on maneuvers and finally the seventh chapter is devoted to attitude and reakcions of czechoslovak's press and mankind.

Czech doctors in austro-hungarian army from 1876 to 1918

Main topic of this thesis is Czech doctors in Austro-Hungarian army since the formation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the end of the First World War. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the development of Austro-Hungarian medical service and military medical corps. The second part is concerned with the manner a military doctor was perceived by his surroundings. It also explores how the doctor perceived himself. The third part centers on the relationships between civilian and military doctors and civilian and military medicine. The fourth part describes the Czech civilian doctors' view of the army and its military doctors. Furthermore, it focuses on the attitude of civilian doctors to the army, war and Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially during the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) and the First World War (1914-1918).

Benešov and the changes of its society 1918-1921

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to analyze if, respectively how much society in Benešov changed after first WWI. I was inspired by microhistory, comparison and probe method to map the period. I try to depict, how the society in Benešov developed. My main intention is to show, that development society in Benešov was after WWI mostly discontinuous, however we can find some examples of continuity. To be specific I research problems of municipal politics, education, Church, army, culture or associational life. They are questions that cannot by simply answered, for example one of them was Konopiště castle case. Described events are put in nationwide context. The main sources for my thesis were regional origin sources. Another information to my topic I got from contemporary press.

Tobacco and cigarette during First World War

7 Abstract The theme of smoking and tobacco products in the First World War was so far only marginally reflected in the Czech Republic. This thesis is aimed to at least partially cover the up to now neglected topic. It pursues the habit of smoking, which is largely associated with soldiers, as it entered the mainstream society with culmination of this process during the period of First World War. It also covers the experience of war and the relationship of smoking to soldiers, along with its use in advertisement and propaganda. Examining the sources of personal nature with both domestic and foreign origin joins with the study of visual sources in combination with knowledge of the fields of medicine, psychology and sociology.

Přestavlky u Čerčan during the occupation 1939-1945

(in English): The aim of this thesis is a micro-historical view into the history of the Czech village during the occupation. At first, author shortly describes developement in the First Czechoslovak Republic and then tries to cover the greatests changes, that occupatioon and years of war have brought into the everydayness of inhabitants. It deals with the spheres of politics, livelihood, public area and confrontation with police and army. Above that he tries to fit in the gained knowledge to the broad historical and territorial context. Archival materials, regional literature and private sources are utilized.
