Conflicts in international relations. Case study: Schleswig-Holstein War in 1864
Novotná, Markéta ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Šauer, Jaroslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis is conceived as a case study which analyses regional conflicts on the example of the Schleswig-Holstein War (also referred to as the German-Danish War or the Second Schleswig War) in 1864. At the beginning, the issue of regional conflicts in general terms is examined. Afterwards, the complicated development of both regions is analysed since it was the reason of the war between Prussia and Denmark, as a matter of fact. The conflict itself is showed as a part of the european events which were happening in the middle of the 19th century. The diverse impact on the development of both countries participating in the war is presented. While the outright victory of Prussia contributed to her consolidation and was a substantial step towards the unification of Germany in 1871, Denmark was thoroughly defeated and turned into one of the small negligible european countries. Finally, the ultimate solution of the Schleswig-Holstein question after the first world war is implied.
Munich agreement and the Versailles system of international relations
Miňovská, Veronika ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Šauer, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis deals with the Versailles arrangement of international relations since its establishment at the Paris Peace Conference, through its changes in 20s and 30s, until its final disappearance. I try to argue, in the thesis, that the system's setting served Hitler as a powerful political weapon in negotiations with the Western powers. I seek for deeper clarification of causes leading to the signature of the Munich Agreement and I am also concerned with the policy of appeasement and the system of collective security which failed several times in 30s. Additionally, the thesis has ambition to shed some light on the Sudeten problem, that had been misused in favour of Hitler due to a well-targetted imperial propaganda of uprecedented proportions. Finally, a part of the paper is also devoted to the rise of Nazism in Germany, the circumstances under which it flourished and its later consequences.

Šťastná, Alice ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Šauer, Jaroslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis reports on the position of Austria in international relations in the 20th century. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the change in its position in the international framework: after World War I, the Central state of the Habsburg empire was reduced to a poor small country which became a part of Nazi Germany after twenty years of its existence. Even though Austria was liberated in 1945, the State treaty restoring the state sovereignty and putting an end to a period of allied occupation was signed at as late a date as 1955. This year in recourse signifies the beginning of Austria's modern history. The thesis is divided into 4 chapters. The first chapter maps the development of Austria until the beginning of World War II, the second one deals with the war time in relation to the negotiations about the future shape of the country and the post-war situation. The third chapter is focused on the ten years of occupation and the struggle over the State Treaty. The last chapter analyzes the Declaration of Neutrality, the policy of neutrality, foreign policy as well as the efforts to participate in the European integration process.
The Changes in Germany's Foreign Policy from the Unification to the Present
Benedová, Hana ; Šauer, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Matějka, Zdeněk (referee)
Foreign policy of Germany has gained due to its special development in the post-war period some unique traits -- strong multilateral and westward orientation and civilian character. German unification became a turning point in this respect. The country was confronted with the necessity to find its new place within the changing international system. This paper focuses on the subsequent changes of foreign policy. Its purpose is to evaluate the change or continuity of these unique traits on one side and to describe Germany's new role in the international relations on the other. The initial step is to picture the function of bodies involved in shaping the foreign policy - government, parliament, individual federal countries and president. Further on the paper outlines the main events of German unification, restoring its full international subjectivity. The core descriptive part is divided in three main segments in terms of the personality leading the government, the chancellor. It first gives an account of foreign policy of the "Kohl era", continues with Schröder government and closes with foreign policy of Angela Merkel. With the view of the complexity of such a task the paper focuses on selected policy areas only -- European integration, transatlantic cooperation and partnership with Russia being among them.
Visegrád Dimension of Foreign Policy of the Slovak Republic
Zelenická, Zuzana ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Šauer, Jaroslav (referee)
Visegrádska skupina, tzv. V4, je príkladom regionálneho neformálneho zoskupenia v stredoeurópskom regióne. V4 vznikla z vôle Slovenskej republiky, Českej republiky, Maďarska a Poľska s cieľom spoločnými silami dosiahnuť návrat do demokratickej Európy.
