The long-term changes in migration and movements of Greylag Goose
Podhrazský, Michal ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Šťastný, Karel (referee)
8 Abstract PODHRAZSKÝ, M. 2010: The long-term changes in migration and movements of Greylag Goose (Anser anser) in the Czech Republic. MSc thesis. Faculty of Sciences, Charles Univrsity, Prague. Greylag Goose have been ringed in the Czech Republic regularly since 1950. Up to now, 4559 recoveries from 1277 individuals were sampled in 1934 - July 2010. The significant changes in migratory behaviour were found in the last 20 years. Greylag Goose ringed and banded in the Czech Republic skip wintering in Spain, Tunisia and Algeria. There was confirmed north-ward shift in wintering range. Moreover, Atlantic-flyway loses importance for Greylag Goose ringed in the Czech Republic. Spring arrival was recorded early and it was affected by climatic conditions. Nevertheless, also earlier autumn departure of birds ringed in the Czech Republic was confirmed. Hunting scheme (i.e. beginning and closing) of hunting season does not affect migratory distance as well as arrival and departure of Greylag Goose in the Czech Republic. Adult birds arrived early than sub-adult birds, whereas there were no differences in survival rate of those groups. Keywords: Greylag Goose (Anser anser), migration and movements, change in migration, arrival on breeding place, abundance, distribution, survival 1. Úvod Práci o ptačí migraci nelze...
Distribution and habitat preference of the Ortolan Bunting in the Czech Republic
Zeman, Vít ; Lučan, Radek (advisor) ; Šťastný, Karel (referee)
The Ortolan Bunting (Emberiza hortulana) is a farmland bird species, whose population size has declined very sharply in recent decades, especia ll y in Western and Central European countries. The aim of our study in 2015 was to record where the last populations of this critically endangered species in the Czech Republic are located and also what habitat the species associated with. We examined nine areas (925 km2 in total). Two main areas of occurrence (surface mines in northern Bohemia and farmland landscape of Silesia) and two small isolated populations in central Bohemia were registered for this species. In contrast, observations in some traditional areas of its occurence (České středohoří in northern Bohemia, Hovorany-Čejkovice region in southe r n Moravia and Javoricko region in Silesia) were negative. Altogether, we counted 75-79 singing males. Our estimation of the size of the Czech population in 2015 is 75-100 singing males, which indicates further population decline compared to the last mapping in 2001-2003. Furthermore, habitat associat io ns were investigated at two spatial scales and we made habitat compar is o n between farmland and post-mining landscape. Our research highlights a high degree of flexibility in habitat selection of Ortolan Bunting and also positive association with high...
Winter roosts of Rooks (Corvus frugilegus) and associated Jackdaws (Corvus monedula): social behaviour and interseasonal dynamics
Hofmanová, Martina ; Musilová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šťastný, Karel (referee)
The presented work summarizes the literary knowledge of the collective winter sleepovers for Rook Corvus frugilegus and Jackdaw Corvus monedula, particularly focusing on the behavior during the day to revaluate the potential benefits of the causes of mass sleepover. Both species are migratory birds which have migrated throughout most of Europe. Rook is from Corvus genus and it is very kind, very social, preferring nesting gathering food in the colonies. It is synanthropy, which shows strong binding to areas inhabited by humans. He uses mass sleepovers and regularly fly between sleapover and food source. The work also includes analysis of own results mid season dynamics of Rooks and Jackdaws in traditional sleepover base in Kralupy nad Vltavou and their neighborhood. The results show a decrease in Rooks and Jackdaws. Among the main consequences of the decline of these specieslikely include changes in the landscape caused by natural phenomena in the form of floods, loss of agricultural land farmed soil, urban modernization, increasing development and by changing of climatic conditions.
Numbers of non-native waterfowl species in Europe
Hodková, Veronika ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Šťastný, Karel (referee)
The Thesis is treating the spreading of non-native waterfowl species into new ecosystems and factors, which influence that process. The impact of selected eco-geographic characteristics on the species diversity and on the numbers of non-native waterfowl individuals was analyzed on the results of the International Waterbird Census. Further, the influence of those characteristics on the numbers and population trends of selected 11 species of the Anatidae family in 17 European countries was assessed. The highest non-native waterfowl species diversity was recorded in countries of the Atlantic coast, i.e. France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and also Switzerland. The main positive influence on their numbers makes the density of population and species diversity of wintering waterfowl. As to the number of non-native species individuals the main impact is produced by both, species diversity and the given latitude, too. It means that the largest number of individual exist in northern countries - Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. Similar main influences have been traced with the family Anatidae, too, which have received special attention in the analysis, as it shows the highest number of non- native species. As to the main eco-geographic characteristics, having impact on the growth or...

The analysis of the causes and prevention of collisions of motor vehicles with wild animals in Western Bohemia
Cagáňová, Tereza ; Šťastný, Karel (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor work is to analyze the causes and to propose measures to reduce collisions of motor vehicles with animals at the territory of the Western Bohemian region. The theoretical part of the bachelor work will be treated as a literary review. The individual chapters deal with themes of landscape fragmentation, development and intensity of traffic and transport's impact on the landscape and wildlife. The emphasis is placed on the migratory routes of wildlife and the current state and solutions to migration objects. The practical part of the bachelor work focuses on the actual analysis of collision of motor vehicles with animals in the territory of Western Bohemia and evaluation of the functionality of migration objects that are implemented in the stated territory. In the conclusion further options for solutions leading to a reduction in mortality of wildlife and the related increase of road safety are propounded.

More specificely, focuses on the protection statute and the overal status of the population of this species. The last section of this research is devoted to bailout program and practical protection. The second part of this batchelor thesis is devoted to my own study where the aim was to verify the possibility of using garden composters for reproduction Aesculapian snake in Poohří area. In this section are results of the first season observing the mutual comparison of individual surveyed sites.
