Počet automobilů v ekonomice

The car industry in the Czech Republic is one of the most important manufacturing industries. It employs a vast number of people and it also creates a relatively significant part of the Czech gross domestic product and the Czech export. Regarding its importance in the Czech economy, this article tries to identify and explain factors determining the number of cars in the economy. In order to achieve it, a regression function is modeled using several variables. The basic variables as income, car prices, substitutes as public transportation, complements as fuel or roads are incorporated in the function as well as other determinants.

The economics of suburbanization

My bachelor thesis focuses on the socio-economical aspects of the development of suburban areas, especially of the recently developed suburbs around bigger cities. This phenomenon (suburbanization) will be investigated in terms of assumtions and incentives on its participants side, but primarily in terms of its impacts. According to the fact that some of the impacts are generally considered as negative, the question is whether it is appropriate to intervene in this process. The aim of this thesis is to find an answer to the question: Is it possible or even appropriate to allow the process of suburbanization to develop without intereventions and if not, how much interevention needed? This thesis will be based on both the studies and surveys from the Czech Republic and observations from the United States where suburbanization has progressed more rapidly.

International trade agreements and price differences

The work is focused on explaining the existence and rationality of contracts, which provide specific business entity the exclusive right to distribute a product in the national market, and price differences between markets, which as a result, there are. In the first part I will try to find an explanation of who gains from this arrangement and whether such an arrangement in terms of its participants is a rational and efficient for whole market In the second part of work on selected examples of practice (the market of branded perfumes) I description of the existing market situation and motivation of individual market participants. Focus particularly on the phenomenon of so-called decoding, which circumvented the contract, its legality and its effect on prices.

Knowledge Processing within the GUHA Method

This study presents an introduction into the data-mining methodology CRISP-DM (CRoss-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining). It provides a fundamental description of association rules and the GUHA method (General Unary Hypotheses Automaton) with related 4ft-Miner, SD4ft-Miner and Action Rules. The examples are shown on real data. Sequentially the study describes the role of the domain knowledge and the project SEWEBAR (SEmantic WEb and Analytical Reports) held at UEP. The practical output of this work is the XML Schema definition for the markup language BKEF (Background Knowledge Exchange Format) designed within the SEWEBAR and the transformation file programmed in the XSL ensuring visualization of the content of any BKEF file.

The Economics of Drug Prohibition

Abstract The Prohibition represents a worldwide approach to drug trafficking and using, that are generally judged as evil, to which it is necessary to face. Although the drugs like alcohol or tobacco are legal and ordinary part of social life, a range of substances available on free market at the beginning of 20th Century became outlawed. In an effort to eliminate illegal drugs there was declared war on their production, distribution and consumtion in order to protect citizens, public health and to minimize social costs. The aim of this paper is to examine whether the drug prohibition is able to achieve its goals, to analyze its effects and real causes for negative impacts of drugs to society and to find who in fact the drug policy bring the benefits to.

Ekonomická teorie reklamy

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje ekonomické teorii reklamy. Reklama je faktorem, který ovlivňuje poptávku po produktu. Na začátku práce jsou rozlišeny tři přístupy k reklamě ? informativní, pohled měnících se preferencí a komplementární přístup. Další části se zabývají vztahem mezi reklamou a spotřebitelským přebytkem, tržní strukturou a blahobytem. Poslední část je zaměřena na empirickou analýzu a její srovnání s teorií. Zkoumání dopadů reklamy jsou zaměřena na cenu a kvalitu. Cílem práce je poskytnout ucelený pohled na teoretické a empirické studie.

Prohibition vs. decriminalization - two different approaches to the drug abuse problem

The main subject of this study is a comparation of two different policies which are used to cope with the drug abuse problem - prohibition and decriminalization. Example is set on the U.S. and the Netherlands. First, each policy is described in detail. Subsequently, both policies are compared according to criteria of the drug use prevalence and the direct costs related with them. The Netherlands, which applies decriminalization, has maintained lower drug use prevalence than the U.S for long time and in almost all kinds of drugs and age groups. Moreover, Netherlands it achieves at the same or lower relative costs. Yet, the higher drug use prevalence does not prove ineffectiveness of policy prohibition. It seems that the U.S. is more likely to have higher prevalence due to more general tendency of using drugs in population. The study also shows that the decriminalization can be linked to increase of drug use that followed its introduction in Netherlands.

Ekonomická analýza bodového systému přijatého zákonem č.411/2005Sb.

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou nově přijaté legislativy regulující oblast dopravy. Hlavní zájem je soustředěn na efekt zavedení bodového systému, který měl přispět ke zvýšení bezpečnosti dopravy. Analýza vychází z průřezových dat, která zaznamenávají vývoj ukazatelů popisujících bezpečnost dopravy a dohledovou činnost policie v jednotlivých správních krajích České republiky. Je prokázáno, že v tomto období nebyl zaznamenán statistický vliv změny v počtu dopravních policistů na úmrtnost při dopravních nehodách.

Jak funguje černý trh s drogami

Tato práce se pokusí přispět k primární analýze ilegálního trhu s drogami odhadem cenové elasticity poptávky a nabídky. Shrnuje základní ekonomické poznatky, které popisují danou oblast, aplikuje odhadovaná data spotřeby, objemu prodeje, cen apod. do teoretických ekonometrických modelů a nakonec zhodnotí jejich platnost. Prozkoumá dostupnou literaturu (zejména v případě nepříznivých výsledků pro danou teorii) a vyhledá i jiné aspekty ovlivňující konzumaci drog ve společnosti v různých zemích, od kulturních (tradic, zvyků), přes socioekonomické až po psychologické. Zhodnotí, zda zkoumané modely dané aspekty zahrnují. Rozdělí je na faktory determinující poptávkovou a nabídkovou stranu. Určí, zda mají na jednotlivé subjekty a prvky trhu pozitivní či negativní vztah. Nakonec uvede příklady některých legalizačních, regulačních a prohibičních opatření a evaluuje je, zda vedla či nevedla ke svým předem definovaným cílům a zda nevyplývají z ekonomických teorií efektivnější alternativní řešení. V rámci této analýzy zkoumá vztah mezi vládními výdaji na protidrogovou politiku a spotřebu drog v populaci a také zda akce typu "war on drugs" jsou v tzv. source countries efektivní. Upozorní na nutnost provádět pravidelné průzkumy mezi drogovými uživateli, neboť právě nevýhodou prohibice je neschopnost přesně trh popsat.
