The evaluation of breeding and reproductive factors of Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) in UCSZOO
Černá, Lucie ; Jebavý, Lukáš (advisor) ; Tománek, Pavel (referee)
The greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) are one of the most widespread bird species in zoological gardens and within the Union of Czech and Slovak Zoological Gardens they are the third most common. Nowadays they can be found in 11 Czech and 3 Slovak zoos. Although flamingos have been bred since 19th century, it is still quite problematic. The successfulness of breeding depends on detailed knowledge of their biology and ethology. Basic information about these two disciplines can be found in the first part of this bachelor thesis together with breeding conditions recommended by foreign experts. Second part concentrates on description of breeding and reproductive indicators in individual zoos within the Union of Czech and Slovak Zoological Gardens and their subsequent evaluation. These data have been collected mostly during life visits of mentioned institutions. For successful breeding it is important that the flamingos are kept in numerous flocks and their gender ratio is balanced. Another thing that is needed is adequately large exhibit with water tank which provides sense of security. What is important next is optimally set food ration with enough carotin and also flying ability of males. Those with cropped wings have a smaller successfulness of copulation thus a smaller chance of egg fertilisation. The most suitable conditions for reproduction within the Union of Czech and Slovak Zoological Gardens has "Ohrada" zoo. The worst conditions, on the other hand, have "Chomutov" and "Plzeň" zoos where the flamingos are kept only for expositional purpose.

Methods for determination of hyaluronan
Černá, Lucie ; Venerová, Tereza (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This thesis deals with a summary of individual method for determining of hyaluronan concentration, especially in aqueous solutions. Selected methods were compared to their functionality in university workplace. Any functional methods may be used for many purposes in university workplace in research of materials based on hyaluronan. It has been studied usability to assess residual content of hyaluronan in supernatant of gel formed from hyaluronan and surfuctant, in this thesis. We choosed sptectrophotometric methods, especially with UV spectroscopy and IR spectroscopy. Two precipitation methods using alcian blue were also tested. As the most reliable, the least demanding and specific method seems to be the method using IR spectroscopy, thanks to it we are able to determine the concentration of HA from 0.01 %. With this method, it has been found, that if there will be located some amount of HA in supernatant, it will be below the detection limit of assay. The remanining methods were modified to help determine the concentrations of HA, but works only in aqueous solutions. A possible variation for determination of very low concentrations of HA may be the method using ELISA kits. However their cost is higher than the above-mentioned methods.
Analytical methods for hyaluronan
Černá, Lucie ; Mravec, Filip (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This thesis deals with of simple methods for determining the concentration of hyaluronan in aqueous solution and compares the performance of each selected methods such as UV -VIS spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and the method of determination by alcian blue. These methods were chosen for their simplicity and low cost of the assay. As the most reliable of these three methods, seems to be the method of IR spectroscopy. Determination of the concentration of HA by this method is relatively accurate at concentrations above 0.4 % in deionized water. The method of UV-VIS spectroscopy is based on a linear calibration curve determination, but no characteristic peak was detected, which means that this determination could be influenced by other components of the aqueous solution. Weak ionic strength and molecular weight of HA does not affect the determination. In the method with alcian blue, the results were quite unsatisfactory and does not correspond with the literature. Therefore, this method is not applicable in this form for determining the concentration of HA. Another option for determining the concentration of the HA is ELISA method. These are commercially produced kits suitable for determining low concentrations in low volumes. Its price is higher than the above- mentioned methods.
The Most Significant Personality in the Czech Republic of 2015
Černá, Lucie
In February, the Centre for Public Opinion Research asked respondents who was the most significant personality of public life in the past year. There was no offer of answers given to respondents so they had the opportunity to respond absolutely spontaneously. They could mention up to two different names. Results of our survey show that, for the Czech citizens, the most significant personalities are high representatives of Czech country and government. Whole article is available in Czech language.
Public Opinion on the Czech Academy of Sciences and its Funding - January 2016
Černá, Lucie
In its January survey Public Opinion Research Centre included a block of questions related to activities of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It was explored trust in this institution, public ideas about the content of its work and opinion on the usefulness of the Academy of Sciences. One question was also dedicated to whether it is modern or outdated scientific institution. We also asked whether citizens think that the Academy of Sciences should be presented through some popular-scientific activities and whether they recently came across such activity. Last but not least we were interested in the public opinion on the funding of this institution from the state budget.
Public Opinion on Scientific Research - January 2016
Černá, Lucie
As a part of its January research Public Opinion Research Centre interviewees were asked several questions regarding their views on scientific research. Questions were focused on whether the Czech citizens are interested in results of scientific research, what are their views on the presentation of Czech science toward public and whether they think that scientific results should be usable in practice. In this research was also included a battery of statements which examined what goals science should have.
Public Opinion on Health Care System
Černá, Lucie
In December 2015 Public Opinion Research Centre included a block of questions related to health care system in its regular survey. Citizens were asked about their overall satisfaction with health care system in the Czech Republic as well as their views on the various problematic areas of healthcare, such as the financing of public health, management of drugs and functioning of insurance companies.
Citizens on the Pension System - November 2015
Černá, Lucie
In its November survey the Center for Public Opinion Research focused on some issues related to the pension system and pension reform. Within this thematic block respondents were presented three pairs of opposing statements expressing general attitudes to the different characteristics of the pension system. Respondents expressed their position through a five-point scale, where point 1 meant identification with the first of a pair of opposing statements and point 5, on the contrary, featured complete shift to the second statement. Individual claims were related to contradiction between principle of solidarity and merit in the pension system, whether financial security of retired people should be ensured by state or by the citizens themselves and whether the pension system in its current form is just or unjust.
Comparison of chosen nursing in prevention of immobility syndrome in a senior nursing home in Germany and the Czech Republic for lying immobile patients.
ČERNÁ, Lucie
As the population is getting older there is increased number of geriatric patients. However there is also increased number of immobile seniors, who are not able to take care of themselves. Comprehensive health and social security is being provided in homes for elderly, which fulfil the role of long-term institutional care. Nurses must be trained for this highly professional and knowledgeable nursing care aimed at geriatric problems. For geriatric clients of home for elderly it´s important realization of prevention, treatment and social measures in the form of an individual approach. That these measures can be implemented it is necessary to evaluate the health status of seniors, their physical performance, self-sufficiency and mental functions in connection with the social situation and to formulate a nursing diagnosis. As a result of long-term bed rest can lead to health complications affecting all body systems, so-called immobilization syndrome. How to prevent secondary damage that threatens the patients White Theo arge already ill is focused rehabilitation nursing. Among rehabilitation resources in the prevention of immobilization syndrome in nursing practice arge included: positioning, verticalization, mobilization. Inseparable part of prevention measures is preventing health complications in case of immobile clients homes for the elderly arge suitably selected positioning aids, mobilizing resources, well-equipped bed with antidekubitus system. In the thesis there were two objectives. To Compare keeping preventive measures which prevent the formation of pressure ulcers and muscle contractures in nursing care for immobile patients in the Czech and German retirement homes. To map out the possibilities of aids in the prevention of complications in immobile clients in the Czech and German retirement homes. Bachelor thesis has been made by using qualitative research. For collection of data was used a method in-depth interviews with four Czech and four German nurses. This method involved non-standardized interviews through open-ended questions that were recorded by dictaphone and transcribed verbatim. The data analysis was carried out by hand coding or using a pencil and paper. By analyzing the data four categories were created, each divided into the home for the elderly in the Czech Republic and the home for the elderly in Germany: 1.Nurses knowledge ,2.Implementation of preventive measures , 3.Equipment for immobile clients, 4.General knowledge related to immobile clients. Research survey found out that there is not a big difference in adherence to preventive measures to prevent the formation of decubitus and muscle contractures in nursing care for immobile patients in Czech and German homes for the elderly and comparable are also the possibilities of using tools to prevent complications in case of immobile clients. The biggest gap in nursing care for clients is bad knowledge of contractures in both homes for the elderly. Also keeping documentation and records relevant to the implementation of preventive measures in the Czech home for the elderly is not satisfactory. Mobilization record is missing and positioning record should be more detailed. We therefore propose the creation of positioning and mobilization recording modeled according to the German retirement home and handing it to the leadership of retirement home in the Czech.
