The Impact of EU investments on a stable economic development through government expenditure
Kroc, Patrik ; Vozárová, Pavla (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is to test the hypothesis claiming that increase in the total allocation of European Structural and Investment Funds will foster economic growth and reduce unemployment in recipient countries. The econometric analysis has been based on a fixed effects method applied on annual panel data stemming from annual observations carried out in 26 EU Member States in a period 2004-2014, or in 21 EU Member States in a period 2000-2014. It has not been possible to verify the above mentioned hypothesis in the framework of a modified New Keynesian´s growth model and Fedeli´s (2014) unemployment model. The problem partly lies in the crowding out of public spending to alternative uses, which the European Commission cannot efficiently prevent.
Gender Differences: Unequal Opportunities of Women in Top Management
Kratochvílová, Alice ; Chytilová, Helena (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the rate of discrimination that women face in top management positions. Theoretical part focuses on the determination of basic theory, gender role, defining discrimination and it's measuring. It also outlines the various theoretical perspectives of discrimination. The thesis also considers the connection between discrimination and related factors which influence the wage. Practical part is focused on the verification of outlined hypothesis. The verification was done through survey. Results confirm the hypothesis that the women face discrimination in the labor market. The 48% of women in top management positions are confronted with discrimination. The outcome of the research also found out that the women's discrimination affects their gross monthly wages. All results are in line with theories outlined in the thesis such as Becker (1957) or Haveman (2012).
Influence of age on measure of procrastination
Fibiger, Ivo ; Svoboda, Miroslav (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
The work investigates the measure of general procrastination of adult working population and factors, that influence it. Influence of age, gender and college education is investigated on data consisting of information about 14 086 tax return forms of Prague entrepreneurs. A negative influence of age and college education on the measure of procrastination was discovered by using econometric and statistic methods. It was also revealed that men procrastinate more than women. Hypothesis of positive influence of age on the measure of procrastination is denied. The work also suggests methods of how to lower procrastination or how to prevent it.
The analysis of effect of body height on wages in Czech Republic
Frank, Daniel ; Bíza Bisová, Sára (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the effect of body height on wages of men and women in Czech Republic. I construct regression models using data gathered by survey in Prague and Zlin. Parameters of these models are estimated by using ordinary least squares method and also two-stage least squares method including instrumental variables. Because of large differences of locations I decided to examine mentioned cities separately. Research reveals the significance of the main explanatory variable only at model studying Zlin utilizing ordinary least squares method. An increase in human height by a centimeter is associated with a growth of his/her wage by 0.65 % on average.
Is Slevomat.cz an effective marketing instrument?
Slavík, Lukáš ; Hronza, Martin (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
Some firms, specifically 19,42 %, are reaching a loss after the promotion on the group buying site Slevomat.cz. A possible explanation is unsuitability of Slevomat.cz as a marketing instrument for all types of traders. A crucial factor for business profit is, in many cases, another purchase made by customers for the undiscounted price. The results suggest that on the return of customers to another purchase have a positive effect size of the company, offered type of goods/services, employee satisfaction and the number of newly acquired customers through promotion. An important determinant of customers return has proven to be the profit made by cooperation with Slevomat.cz and the relative discount rate. Contrary the number of sold vouchers has no impact on return of customers. Thus for the advertising company is helpful to set the optimal combination of discount rate and the maximum number of offered coupons.
Which factors affect the attendance of castle Litice nad Orlicí
Nováková, Lada ; Lahvička, Jiří (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
This thesis aims to analyze the factors influencing the attendance of the historical monument, the castle Litice. I am focusing on the standard, reduced and family tickets. For measurement of the impact of the individual variables I use the daily data from 2004 to 2012. Into the determinants that have impact on the demand for attendance I include the ticket prices, temperature, precipitation, public holidays, weekends, summer holidays and cultural events. The model shows that an increase of ticket price by 1 % will result in increase of sales of family tickets by 2,4 % ceteris paribus. Regarding the standard and reduced ticket, the resulting coefficient is insignificant. Public holidays, weekends and summer holidays have a positive impact on attendance for all three types of admission. The most significant impact has an annual event "Pochod přes tři hrady" (March through three castles). During this event sales of standard tickets increase by 190 % and sales of reduced tickets are ten times higher ceteris paribus. The events have an insignificant impact on sales of family tickets.
Specification of the relationship between gas consumption in commercial and industrial sector and outside temperature
Pálková, Eliška ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
Aim of this thesis is to make the relationship between the gas consumption in commercial and industrial sector and temperature more accurate. The thesis is based on broad data which describes gas consumption of companies from the whole distribution network in the Czech Republic and information about temperature in the areas where the distribution networks operates. For the estimation of the model is used the weighted least squares method. The results show decreasing trend in the consumption during summer by 61%, during weekend by 41% and during holidays by 28%. The consumption is the most sensitive to the changes in temperature in the range of -1 °C to 20 °C and when the temperature is below -7 °C or above 24 °C the consumption doesn't react to the changes in temperature anymore.
A feminist critique of the neoclassical economics
Hromádka, Ondřej ; Špecián, Petr (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
The Bachelor Degrese Thesis deals with the evaluation of the feminist criticism of neoclassical economics. The fundamental question is whether the critical feminist judgments will have any serious impact to the neoclassical theory. The first part is a placement of both schools in their approach. Another part is following by a general criticism of the feminists at model area, methods and topics. In the last part, based on the analysis of family economics and investment in human capital of children, concludes that feminist criticism is unjustified. The thesis accepts the criteria for accepting its claims in a poorly reasoned argument of the critics and subsequently weak alternative starting points.
Analysis of regulatory out-of-pocket fees implementation on Czech healthcare system
Běgeřová, Michaela ; Janíčko, Martin (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
This bachelor theses analyses impact of regulative out-of-pocket payments that have been introduced in January, 2008 as a part of a Czech healthcare reform. It summarizes specific characteristics of healthcare economy, compares main healthcare-financing models and describes development and current layout of the Czech healthcare system. Out-of-pocket payments were implemented mainly to prevent over-using the healthcare system and also to bring additional financial means to the healthcare budget. Conducted econometric analysis revealed that an obligation to pay the fee reduces quarterly number of outpatient doctor visits by 0,198.
Impact of 2008 - 10 economic recession on suicide in the Czech Republic
Celmanová, Barbora ; Rotschedl, Jiří (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
The thesis analyze the impact of 2008 economic recession on suicide rate in the Czech Republic. In the first step of analysis, time trends of suicide before economic recession are estimated. Historical trends had been declining for both sexes before recession. Based on these trends are estimated excess suicides in 2008 -- 2010 compare with the number expected suicides based on previous trends. In the second step of analysis, regression analysis using fixed effect is used to examine relationship between unemployment and suicides. It's found, that yearly fluctuations in unemployment are associated with annual changes in suicides among men. For women this relationship isn't significantly proved. The examination is conducted on 14 regions of the Czech Republic from 2000 to 2010. Main explanatory variable is the number of available job applicants that measures changes in unemployment. Other control variables are added to the models to eliminate fixed effects . The annual data for the male population shown, that in regions, where was the highest growth of unemployment rate, was also the highest increase in suicide.
