The Legend of St. Demetrius among eldest legends in the Germanov sbornik

This thesis seeks to locate the Old Church Slavonic (hitherto OCS) translation of the legend about St Demetrius in Germanov sbornik within the context of other archaic hagiographic and homiletic texts. In the lexical plan there can be found a number of hits with the vocabulary of the eldest OCS Gospels. Very archaic nature of morphological phenomena coexists with some innovations, which however have existed in the eldest OCS Gospels. The syntax of this legend is in many cases affected by Greek and maintains more archaic structures, which were gradually replaced by other constructions. The author of this thesis also deals with quotations and allusions of this OCS legend in other OCS works and makes an attempt to date the translation.

The linguistic analysis of Glagolitic Mass in New Church Slavonic

The thesis paper is devoted to phonetic analysis of the Glagolitic Missal which was compiled by Vojtěch Tkadlčík. The attention is mainly paid to the differences between Glagolian sounding and the Latin transcription of the text. In the introduction of the paper the Czech type of the New Church Slavonic language is characterised and the structure of the Glagolitic Missal is presented. In the main part of the paper, which is based on the work with analysed texts, some phonetic phenomena and graphic specialities of the New Church Slavonic of the Czech type are described. Examples illustrate the places where Tkadlčík draw from the phonetics of South Slavonic languages or Eastern Slavonic languages and where he tried to make the text sound genuinely Czech. In the conclusion of the paper characteristic traits of the New Church Slavonic language of the Czech type are summarized.

Three ancient Church Slavonic Homilies

Three ancient Church Slavonic Homilies (Tomáš Mikulka) Abstract The aim of this thesis is to offer an in-depth analysis of three ancient Old Church Slavonic (further only OCS) homilies which have not been appropriately recognised yet. These are three anonymous homilies on the Nativity of the Lord (25th December), on the Baptism of the Lord (6th January) and on the Annunciation (25th March). The first two aforementioned homilies were studied by A. N. Popov in 1880, whereas the homily on the Annunciation is in this study presented to the public for the very first time. The thesis objective is to characterize these texts by their linguistic features, then to offer their approximate dating and geographic localisation, as well as to address the question of their genuineness, mutual affinity and the relation to other OCS texts, in particular to the oldest OCS homilies. Each homily is analysed separately using the identical method so that the results can be finally compared. The conclusion is that these three homilies might have been written by the same author who cannot be simply identified with any already-known person. Compounds in Old Church Slavonic

In the dissertation Compounds in Old Church Slavonic, the author seeks to shed light on the issue of how to view words formed by composition in the Old Church Slavonic literature. The methodology of processing compounds in Old Church Slavonic is discussed in a separate chapter, which also summarises the recent literature on compounds with the references to key works. It goes on to explain and justify the principles adopted for the analysis of lexemes. Individual chapters, in addition to the various types of composition and the types of compounds divided by the author, also deal with the genre or frequency of specific examples. In the first place it was with a justification defined which lexical units were taken into account in the paper and vice versa, which were not included in the corpus. In the chapter on the methodology, the use of criteria and aspects was justified. Subsequently, a space was devoted to the issue of the so-called connecting morpheme of compounds, its origin and form in specific lexemes, an analysis from a formal point of view. The order of criteria in chapters is determined by their scope, i.e. their applicability to a greater or lesser range of compounds. Ornitofauna Cvilínského Předního a Zadního kopce u Krnova a její ochrana

Václav Čermák Ornithofauna of Přední a Zadní Cvilínský kopec hills near Krnov and its protection This bachelor thesis deals with the current species representation of ornithofauna of Přední a Zadní Cvilínský kopec hills near Krnov and the occurrence of hollow-bearing trees suitable for hollow-nesting birds in this locality. The results of the thesis also try to find the link between the conditions of the ornithofauna of 2001. For the monitoring of ornithofauna, a census method and a walking method were used. The monitoring of the hollow-bearing trees was carried out by direct field observation. A total of 51 species of birds were found in the monitored locality. Of these, there are 25 nesting and 13 protected by law. In addition, 109 hollow-bearing trees were found in that locality. The work also contains an assessment of the occurrence of hollow-nesting bird species and a framework of the forestry management support of the local ornithofauna.

On the Roots of Church Slavonic Literature in the Slavonic Monastery in Prague

The article deals with the issue of Czech-Croatian cultural history and literary contacts which intensified after the foundation of the Slavonic Monastery in Prague in the mid-14th century. Greatest attention is paid to written sources for Church Slavonic and Czech Glagolitic literature that originated in the 2nd half of the 14th century and early 15th century which were used in this monastery. At first, the author presents the development specifications of Church Slavonic literature in Croatia and points out the historic circumstances which in the northern areas of the Croatian coast enabled the development of Church Slavonic written in the Glagolitic script for Roman liturgy. Attention is also paid to the development of respect for Bohemian saints in Latin and Croatian Glagolitic liturgical sources which in most cases gives evidence of their cult's existence in Croatia prior to the 14th century. The author of the study briefly reminds readers about the individual liturgical booklets of Croatian Glagolitic origin which were used for Slavonic liturgy not only in Croatia but also in the Slavonic Monastery in Prague.

The Translation Technique from Latin to Old Church Slavonic on the Basis of Gumpold's Legend and the Second Old Church Slavonic Life of Saint Wenceslas Kateřina Spurná Summary This dissertation analyses the translation technique from Latin to Old Church Slavonic on the basis of Gumpold's Legend (Gump) from the end of the 10th century and its translation, the Second Old Church Slavonic Life of Saint Wenceslas (VencNik), which was written in early Přemyslid Bohemia probably in the second half of the 11th century. The introductory chapters provide the basic characteristics of the Gump and deal with its preservation in manuscripts and other Latin and Old Church Slavonic legends of St Wenceslas. Afterwards, attention is focused on the analysis of the VencNik, its preservation in manuscripts of Russian provenance and the basic phonetic and morphological characteristics of the text. These chapters are followed by a new edition of the VencNik, in which the Old Church Slavonic text is presented in the form actually preserved in manuscripts (unlike the earlier edition of Josef Vašica from 1929, who tried to reconstruct the original version), and compared with the partly revised and supplemented edition of the Gump. The Apocryphal Gospel of Bartholomew in the Slavonic Tradition

The Apocryphal Gospel of Bartholomew in the Slavonic Tradition (Martina Chromá) Abstract The thesis deals with the Slavonic translation of the apocryphal Gospel of Bartholomew (Questions of Bartholomew), which is a literary monument written in Greek most likely in the 3rd century. The text of the monument has survived in two known Greek, two Latin and six Slavonic manuscripts. These Slavonic manuscripts are dated between the 14th - 18th centuries, with two of them pertaining to the Russian redaction of the Old Church Slavonic and the other two to the Serbian redaction. The objective of the thesis is to identify the most probable place and time assignment of the original Slavonic translation of the monument, and an outline of lines by which the manuscripts were spread in the Slavonic environment. By a detailed textological and lexical analysis we come to the conclusion that all the Slavonic manuscripts containing the text of the monument stemmed from one common archetype originated most likely in Bulgaria during the 10th century. Image of Foreigner in Moscovian Texts about Time of Troubles of 17th Century

The objective of the master's thesis is to analyze the image of foreigners in Moscovian texts written during the Time of Troubles and soon after it in early 17th century. The thesis will also focus on the perception of foreign influence on political and cultural development of Russian state and society. Due to the fact that the perception of foreigners in Muscovite Russia can be regarded in many aspects as a result of traditional religious and historical thinking concepts which had been widespread in the country by the end of the 16th century, we will pay particular attention to the formation of medieval Moscovian thinking. By means of discourse and comparative analysis we will try to fulfil the following goals: 1) to study the religious and historical thinking formation process in medieval Russia up to the beginning of the 17th century; 2) to analyze various specific features of Moscovian texts from early 17th century in terms of foreigners' perception; 3) to put the issue of foreigners' perception into a wider cultural and historical context, especially with regard to appropriate literature and thinking tradition.
