This thesis deals with social market economy, a concept of economic policy formed by Alfred Müller-Armack and implemented in Federal republic od Germany after Second World War. The thesis includes, on one side the theoretical approach, which is characterized by effort to identify notional movements influencing Müller-Armack and by analysis of basic values of the concept and on the other side also realisation of this economic policy in practise.
Three essays on Joseph Stiglitz, information asymmetry, and credit rationing

This thesis contains three essays related to the work of economist Joseph Stiglitz. The first essay describes the contribution of Stiglitz to economic theory by analysing problems of information asymmetry, new Keynesian and institutional economics, rationality, and market theories. Shortcomings of neoclassical economics are described and possible solutions are outlined. The last part of this essay summarizes the main critique of Stiglitz's work. The second essay applies the topic of information asymmetry by discussing whether the current level of economic development leads to convergence or divergence in the technology and information levels. The conclusion is that even though globalisation affects the level of technology and information, we do not see convergence as predicted by several theoretical models and information asymmetry remains an important element in the economy. The last essay links the Stiglitz-Greenwald theory of credit rationing using recent Czech data from years 2007-2009. Data confirm that credit rationing increases, information asymmetry increases, and the transmission mechanism does not function well during economic decline. I conclude that Czech banks increase their screening of clients and consequently credit rationing in the times uncertainty leading to ambiguous development...
Rule-of-thumb consumers in the New Keynesian framework

iv Abstract This thesis investigates the effects of government spend- ing on aggregate economic variables in the Czech Republic. The standard RBC and New Keynesian models assume only forward-looking households despite the evidence of a sig- nificant fraction of non-optimizing households. These mod- els do not provide reasonable predictions for the response of consumption: both models predict its fall following a gov- ernment spending shock. Therefore, a variant of the New Keynesian model, where rule-of-thumb households coexist with optimizing households, is used for the analysis. We have found that fiscal policy has a positive impact on output, although government spending multiplier does not exceed one. Also, the impact on consumption is positive for several periods following a fiscal spending shock, which is consistent with the evidence. The roots of the transformation trought in the Czech dissent before the year 1989

This thesis traces the roots of the transformation thought in samizdat publications of the Czech dissent. Although nearly twenty years have passed since Communism collapsed and the ideas in question became relevant, there is still a lack of knowledge about the subject. In order to fill in this gap, the thesis provides the reader with a literature review, summarizing and evaluating the sources of various types (e.g., articles in samizdat periodicals, samizdat books), and with background information (e.g., the identity of authors publishing under pseudonyms) obtained by interviewing contemporaries. Of special importance is the work of Zdislav Šulc who, owing to his chef-d'oeuvre, the Government and Economics, emerges from this study as the central figure of the Czech samizdat economic literature. Adam Smith in the works of Czech economists

This bachelor thesis aims to trace the impact of his philosophy to the Czech economists both - in their theoretical writings and also in contemporary economic textbooks. Special attention is devoted to the Czech translations of Smith's works as well as the introduction of the new concepts of terminology associated with the works of A. Smith.
The Segregation in Ferrous Alloys when Casting Heavy Castings

This thesis is dedicated to the field of manufacture of heavy steel castings with resulting properties which are influenced by long solidification time. During the long solidification time a segregation process of additives in the steel occurs which results in numerous metallurgical defects. The work was intended to observe the macrosegregation effects in the wall of a heavy experimental steel casting respectively a part of a real superheavy casting intended for cement furnaces (weight 210 t). The steel casting for the research was manufactured in the joint-stock company of VHM where such heavy castings are commonly produced for the market. The supplied piece of the steel casting was cut into the smaller pieces for the better examination. The examination resulted in information about the casting macrostructure and chemical heterogeneity of chosen elements in the casting wall. The heterogeneity of the chosen elements (C, Mn, Si, Cr, S, P) is clearly shown in the worked out visual concentration maps. Based on the experimental data the measured results of segregations were confronted with the results of segregation modelling with the use of the commercial simulation software ProCAST. It resulted in the conclusion that the prediction of segregations is not in accordance with the reality. Furthermore, the results from the experimental casting are shortly compared with previously manufactured castings of the same type and the results summarizing the found range of macrosegregations of the tested sample are interpreted in the work conclusion.

RESEARCH OF HEAVY CASTING METALLURGICAL DEFECTS

A massive castings defects are examined in this doctoral thesis, specialise in steels passing through peritectic transformation. There are typical types of defects at massive steel castings, as contrasted to „ordinary“ internal and surface ones. For massive steel castings are typical defects under feeders like conchoidal fractures, segregations, microporesities, reoxidation products. Combination of Al and Zr is an ordinary final deoxidation of EOP and LF steel for castings in ŽĎAS a.s. foundry. The aim of Al + Zr combination was to both deep deoxidation by Al (decrease of bubbles risk) and denitrification by Zr (decrease of conchoidal fractures). This theses refute premission mentioned above and verified persisting risk of defects under massive feeders, even though Al + Zr deoxidation is used. A final deoxidation by increased amount of Al was examinated, in combination with other deoxidation agents. Castings had 11 [cm] maximal modulus, and occurence of conchoidal fracture, reoxidation products and primary austenite grain size was evaluated. A selected optimal final deoxidations (Al, Al+Ti, Al+Zr) as a result from experiment described above, were evaluated on castings with 15 [cm] maximal modulus. The result of experiment is, that is not possible to repeatedly produce massive steel casting using EOP metallurgical equipment without defects under feeders, despite of deoxidation and pouring temperature optimalization. The defect indications look like conchoidal fracture, but there are microporesity and impurities instead. Finally, castings with maximal modulus 15 [cm] were produced using so called secondary metallurgy (LF, VD). Secondary metallurgy allowed to both significant decrease of sulfur and degassing of melted metal. Only this metallurgical procedure guarantees production of heavy steel castings without typical defects under massive feeders
