IFRS Adoption and Its Influence on Capital Markets in Transition Countries: The Case of Russia

Capital markets development is an integral part of overall economic growth of any country. Accounting harmonization is aimed to increase the attractiveness of capital markets by creation of synchronized financial reporting environment globally so that the capital is effectively allocated with the lowest costs and increased liquidity. To the date, more than a hundred of countries implemented IFRS into the national accounting frameworks, therefore the need for the assessment of the real impacts on capital markets is obvious. The main goal of this study is to identify whether there is statistical evidence of the relationship between decreased/increased cost of equity capital among Russian listed companies and mandatory adoption of IFRS. Theoretical part includes an overview of the relevant theory, reasons of accounting harmonization as well as potential challenges. There are also described the main findings and real evidences of adoption impacts on the main capital and financial markets. Practical part of this paper is aimed to investigate whether the proposed benefits of IFRS adoption may be similarly observed in an environment of transition economy.
Measurement and financial reporting of intangible assets acquired in a business combination according to IFRS

This master thesis deals with specifics of valuation, recognition and reporting of intangible assets that were acquired as a business combination under IFRS. This thesis is also devoted to specifics of intangible assets which indicate importance and difficulty of its standardization in accounting. The aim of the master thesis is to combine valuation and accounting standards for intangible assets with emphasis on acquisition process. Practical part is here to show how definitely companies valuate, measure and recognize intangible assets acquired in a business combination.
Disclosure of player contracts in football under IFRS

The goals of this diploma thesis are to characterize the current stadium of disclosure information about player contracts in football based on the IFRS standards and describe possible policy improvements for accounting standards. Theoretical part focus on an analysis of chosen IFRS standards, especially IAS 38 and UEFA regulations. Practical part of the thesis present a research of player contracts in the hands of particular football clubs with an emphasis on the method of acquisition.
Analysis of explanatory power of income statement prepared in accordance with Czech accounting standards and IFRS

This master thesis deals with an issue of the profit and loss statement. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the nature of the financial statements, the individual elements of the financial statements and after that, it focuses on the one particular statement which is profit and loss statement. The thesis also describes the basic building blocks of this particular statement and further specifies its appearance. The analysis is conducted in terms of Czech accounting standards and IFRS. In the analytical part of the thesis, the main focus lies on the research of the explanatory power of the profit and loss statement in practice. It analyzes the statement from the perspective of external users. The researched companies were randomly selected and they publish their financial statements prepared in accordance with Czech accounting standards and IFRS. The main approach used in this master thesis is the financial analysis, within which are carried out the horizontal and vertical analysis, ratios calculations and all results are compared over time and also among competitors. The income statement offers really important information to the users of financial statements, but for deeper explanation users have to always look into the other financial statements, because all of them are connected together.

The thesis aims to explore the relationship of international professional organization ACCA, respectively ICAEW and Faculty of Finance and Accounting (VŠE), and the knowledge to confront each other. The introduction emphasized the importance of professional organizations in connection with the voluntary and compulsory established organizations. The main part of this thesis is focused on the organization ACCA, which deals with her qualifications. The final part closer describes the cooperation between ACCA and FFA in connection with obtaining the accreditation. This part is complemented by the procedure to obtain the accreditation.
Transition czech accounting entity from IFRS to the Czech accounting regulations

The diploma thesis deals with the transition of accounting from IFRS to the Czech accounting regulations. There is currently no accounting adjustment that would provide a conceptual basis for the entity that has to transit to Czech accounting regulations. The thesis was therefore focused on practical examples to demonstrate how transfer to Czech accounting regulations can be carried out even in terms of valuation. This thesis is divided into three chapters, where the first chapter deals with the issue of harmonization of accounting systems, and the main reasons for the period in which the transition will be realized. The second chapter is primarily focused on the general review of IFRS 1 which is to serve as template to set the rules for the transition from IFRS to Czech accounting regulations. This thesis focuses on the comparison and content of financial statements, the accounting principles and regulations and, namely, on valuation approaches of both accounting systems. The practical application uses model situations to demonstrate possible solutions of transition from IFRS to Czech accounting regulations. The primary intention of this thesis is to analyze the tangible fixed assets of IFRS considering IAS 16, IAS 40 and IFRS 5 and other related standards.
Adoption of IFRS by entities in consumer products industry

The goal of the master's thesis is to prepare the opening statement of financial position according to the International Financial Reporting Standards. The theoretical part commences with the analysis of the current regulation of IFRS in the Czech Republic. Then follows the explanation of conditions and reasons for transition to IFRS. In the end of the theoretical part, the process of transition is explained as well as the application of IFRS 1. The practical part deals with the detail analysis of the individual line items of the statement of financial position according to the Czech GAAP. There also analyzed the relevant regulation of individual line items according to IFRS as well as performed adjustments required from the entity in order to transition to IFRS.
Methodology Comparison of the Statement of Cash Flows as Regulated by Czech Accounting Legislation, IFRS and US GAAP

This masters thesis main focus is a statement of cash flows as regulated by czech accounting legislation, International Financial Reporting Standards and US GAAP. First chapter describes the importance of Statement of cash flows and his value added for users of financial statements. The historical context of the statement is shown, it is stated which entities are obligated to report statement of cash flows and lastly the internal structure of the statement is discussed. The second chapter begins by general methods of preparing the statement, then so called specific items are dealt with. The solution of some advanced accounting transactions (government grants, leases, loans, deferred payments etc.) is described. In the end the presentation and dislocure requirements are discussed. Last chapter contains research, where 99 companies are researched, answers are made concerning stated research questions and research hypothesis are concluded.
The proces of transition company from the IFRS to the Czech accounting regulations

This thesis deals with the process of transition from IFRS to the Czech accounting regulations. This issue is currently insufficiently addressed and poses for businesses that would address the transition, considerable difficulties. The thesis points to basic differences in the approaches of both GAAP. They are generally described in the first part theoretical. In the second part, practical, is an analysis of selected items in the financial statements, and then within a complex sample illustration of the differences and illustrate their transfer to the fictional company.
Analysis of the impacts of the new rules for leases under IFRS / US GAAP

This diploma thesis is focused on new standard IFRS 16 Leases and on new US GAAP codification ASC 842 Leases. It compares basic principles from old and new regulation. In the second part it analyzes impacts of transition to new accounting rules through comparing real accounting statements of three companies, issued in compliance with IAS 17 or ASC 840, with statements adjusted for impacts of new accounting standards.
