The Case Study of a Physiotherapy Treatment of a Patient with Balance Disorder and Cognitive Impairment

The bachelor thesis explores balance and cognitive disorders in the context of physiotherapy. Balance disorders and cognitive impairment are important risk factors for falls. The aim of the thesis is to provide fundamental information based on available evidence in literature and briefly outline the importance of physiotherapy in patients with balance and cognitive impairment. In the practical part of the thesis is presented a detailed case study of a physiotherapeutic treatment of a patient with balance disorder and cognitive impairment due to encephalopathy. The treatment focused on application of techniques which are beneficial for improvement of the balance as well as cognitive functions. At the end of the therapeutic intervention patient have improved stand and gait balance as well as coordination of motion and cognitive performance and also there was a significant reduction of fatigue and fall risk. We used standardized assessments methods to measure the effect of the treatment: The Tinetti Balance and Gait Test, Berg Balance Scale, Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Barthel Index for Activities of Daily Living.

Problematic Areas in the Everyday Life of Patients with Huntington's Disease. Subtitle: A Suggestion of Compensatory Strategies in Coping with Cognitive Impairment

This diploma thesis explores problematic areas of patients with Huntington's disease in their performance during activities of daily living (ADLs) from the perspective of patients and their caregivers. The aim of the research was also to assess a possible correlation between cognitive impairment and the patient's performance in ADL. Twenty-five patients with their caregivers met the selection criteria for the research. There were used standardized assessment methods available in Czech: the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) and the questionnaire for caregivers called Bristol Activities of Daily Living Scale (BADLS-CZ). The statistical analyses consisted of methods of the nonparametric statistics, qualitative analysis was processed by data categorizing. Caregivers reported more problematic areas in ADLs which was significantly confirmed in the statistical hypothesis testing (p <0,05). A significant correlation was seen between the results of the questionnaire and the results of the MoCA assessment (rSp = -0,620; p <0,05). For various reasons, patients with Huntington's disease did not mention as many problematic areas in performing ADL as their caregivers. The Theological and Comparative Religious Aspects of the Scholarly Dispute ,,Babel-Bibel"

This dissertation thematically belongs to the field of "History of Science and Scholarly Knowledge" with significant reach to theology and exegesis. It concerns the dispute of whether the annunciated text of the Old Testament was in all respects original or if it in some respects followed the traditions of ancient Near Eastern civilizations, particularly the Sumero-Akkadian one. The purpose of this thesis is to introduce the fundamental information on the "Babel-Bibel" dispute to the Czech scholarly community for the very first time. The dissertation includes an analysis of the course and consequences of the dispute as well as a discussion of the impact of Oriental scholarship on Old Testament exegesis.

The Role of the Occupational Therapist in the Treatment of Patients with Huntington's Disease

The Role of the Occupational Therapist in the Treatment of Patients with Huntington's Disease Abstract: This thesis is focused on the possible potential of occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease, a neurodegenerative brain disease. Currently, Huntington's disease is incurable, but there are some therapeutic methods and approaches which have positive influence on a progress of the disease. Also, early intervention of occupational therapy is needed and the occupational therapist is an irreplaceable specialist as a part of an interdisciplinary team. However, in the Czech Republic there is a little experience with occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease. The thesis consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part provides basic information about the condition and by having used specialized foreign literature it also focuses on the opportunities and goals of occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease. In the practical part, questionnaires which were distributed among patients and patient care providers were evaluated. Results of the questionnaires provide besides other things a brief outline of patient's problematic areas.
