The geographies of religion from a feminist perspective

This dissertation is based on the postsecularisation thesis which highlights the increasing role of religion nowadays. In the postmodern society, religion is understood not only as an objective truth, but also as the individual experience of a person. In relation to societal changes, a new paradigm has appeared - the new geographies of religion - which incorporates the individuality of a person into the discussion about religion in space. The study of religion as an individual experience could be significantly enhanced by feminist approaches which enable the inclusion of personal experiences. Therefore, the thesis contributes to the current direction of the geographies of religion connecting these with feminist approaches. The contribution of feminist approaches is assessed from the theoretical and empirical point of view. Feminist approaches develop themes of hierarchy, everydayness, emotionality, and embodiment, and thus contribute to the research on religion in a postsecular context. The empirical goal of the thesis is to consider the creation of sacred place and how religion frames the everyday experience of women. Queer geografie sexualit: sociokulturní organizace sexualit v prostoru a (de)konstrukce heteronormativity.

Geographies of sexualities started to develop within the Anglo-American academic context during the late 1980s. In the 1990s, propelled by the cultural turn, the swelling of post-structuralist and postmodern critiques, and a growing recognition of the limitations to scientific knowledge production and representation, geographers of sexualities introduced queer theory into human geography. Queer theory provided human geography with powerful tools for approaching not only straightforward spatialities of sexualities, but this new lens contributed to the development of human geographies as such. Currently, at least in the Anglo-Saxon geographical context, the field of geographies of sexualities is considered part of mainstream human geography. Therefore, the main goal of this thesis is to provide a few lines of reasoning for the development of geographies of sexualities in Czechia and Central Eastern Europe (CEE) and introduction of post-structuralist understandings, specifically queer theory. In contrast to other phenomena that may be locally exclusive or particular, human sexualities are everyplace, albeit quite variable and dependent on the context in which they "enter into language," become institutionalized, and are regulated. Housing policy, social and spatial justice: new public housing construction in Czechia

A just society, as understood in this thesis, has to deal with several challenges. The society needs to address injustuces which arise from unequal participation on economic system, from cultural (discoursive) practices and from imperfections of democratic participation. Moreover, it has to deal with spatial dimensions of social processes and with variety of geographical contexts. This thesis draws on critical social science traditions. Beside scientific constribution, the aim of the thisis is to point out some hidden or omitted social problems and injustices. In Czechia, transformation processes after 1989 led among other results to increasing income differentiation and discrimination of some population groups. In the housing sector, these processes resulted in creation of segregated socially excluded localities. Devolution of housing policies to local/municipal level created an opportunity for solving these problems with respect to local circumstances. These activities could be supported by the program of new rental housing construction for population with limited income which was provided by the State Fund of Housing Development.
