Paclíková, Edita ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The thesis focuses on theme of cultural identity of Mexican Americans. The introduction is based on the common history of Mexico and the United States of America (the question of the immigration, the Chicano Movement, Chicano Spanish). Attention is paid to the conception of Mexican American literature and essayistic, poetic and narrative work of Tomás Rivera, the major representative of the Chicano movement literature. The most important part of this work consists of the analysis of some peculiar motives in Rivera's cycle ...And the Earth Did not Devour Him, that create a picture of Mexican American life (the motive of religion, despair, journey, etc.). From Andalusia to New York: The evolution of Lorca's poetry
Gozonová, Renata ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
In my thesis, I focus on the evolution of the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca's poetry, from his stay in Andalusia to the period he passed in New York. At first, we present avant-garde literary movements of that age. In detail we focus on the Generation 27, whose Lorca was member, and on the poetry the poets cultivated. In Lorca, firstly, we take a look at his life, his personality and then we divide his production into two periods: Andalusia - we take look at his lecture about "cante jondo" and at two books, Poem of cante jondo and Gipsy romances. New York - we approximate to Lorca's stay in New York and the country, and how the environment was reflected in his book of poems Poet in New York. In conclusion we summarize both periods of his production.
Javier Marías and Juan José Millás: The comparation of All souls and The Disorder of Your Name
Kočová, Linda ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The main objective of my thesis was to analyze the two works mentioned above. I tried to perform the analysis of both novels and discover the possible relations and similitudes. What unites them and where are the differences? The first chapter is dedicated to an overview of the Spanish novel of the 20th century and covers the milestones that marked the history of the contemporary Spanish novel since the Generation of '98, Camilo José Cela, Juan Goytisolo, ending with the generation coming after 1975. The next chapter focuses on the Generation of Javier Marías and José Millás and writers who have published after 1975. I also dedicated some pages to the theory of literature and the literary terms I employ in the course of the thesis. It is an attempt to theoretically explain the terms Postmodernism and Immorality and the reason why they are used in the thesis. In the third chapter, I carried out a comparison of the lives of J. Marías and J.J. Millás in order to discover what they have in common and in what ways they are different. Then, I continued with the analysis of their works where I took into account their language and fictional characters as much as the historic context of their novels. As I have already stated, concerning the "obsessions" of the writers, the environment where they were raised plays...
The principal themes and motifs in Rubén Darío's poetry
Grabec, Jan ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The aim of this work is to capture and explain the motivic and thematic aspects of the poetical work of Rubén Dário. Rubén Darío has substantially contributed to the formation of the hispano-american modernism, that originated mainly from the literary movements of the 19th century in Europe. Hispano-american modernism has formally revived obsolete poetical structures of its time and has provided other Spanish speaking writers for enriching their writings with new elements. This work then concerns itself with the analysis of themes, which have appeared in his writings most frequently. The motivic part of his writings was, especially in his earliest writings, deeply influenced with mythology, mainly the classical and the germanic one, but also with oriental art, and often evoked the environment of aristocracy. His critics have often declared those motives to be exotic as they were not common in Darío's times. Finally the work is trying to capture the motivic and thematic shift between his fundamental writings, the Worldly hymns (Prosas profanas) and the Songs of Life and Hope (Cantos de vida y esperanza). In contrast to the Worldly hymns, the Songs of Life and Hope decline to existentialism.
The children heroes in the production of Miguel Delibes
Rejmontová, Karolína ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to analyze children's characters in the novels of El Camino, Mi idolatrado hijo Sisí and El príncipe destronado. After a brief summary of children characters within Delibes novels, we focus on analyzing common aspects of children heroes, on feelings of anxiety and fear, the importance of background, in which the child grows up, we concentrate on teenagers problems and children's evolution, we focus on the way how children speak and on the analysis of hilarious moments, which are originated from the children's innocence of the world. This thesis intends to take into account all these aspects. In the second part we dedicate to composition of the novel that Delibes completely conformed to the novels intention. The children characters are explored in the context of other characters, taking into account the point of the social background and related problems. In the final chapter we compare the novels to the film production.
Torrente Ballester's novel La saga/fuga de J.B. as a rehabilitation of imaginative prose
Poláková, Dora ; Forbelský, Josef (advisor) ; Vydrová, Hedvika (referee) ; Fousek, Michal (referee)
When the novel La saga/fuga de J.B. (The Saga/Fugue of J.B.) came out in 1972, Gonzalo Torrente Ballester (1910-1999) had a long and extensive literary career behind him, but one which was marked by failures and the indifference of readers and critics. This novel, however, caused a sensation and was highlighted as Spain's answer to the Latin American "boom", as a proof that resourcefulness and unfettered imagination have their place in the Old World too… So although this was the author's magnum opus, which has naturally been the subject of a wide variety of studies and analyses, I think it has not been completely exhausted as a theme. In my work I attempt to perceive it not as a unique work of artistic creation by the author but also as the logical outcome of previous writing - it is this perception that I find lacking in the literature available on the novel and its author. For La Saga/fuga de J.B. contains constants in it which appear in a different form in Torrente Ballester's work from 1943, when he made his debut as a novelist with his book Javier Mario.Historia de una conversión/Javier Mario. The story of a conversion. And it also represents not only the result of many years of practical experience in writing novels but also the product of deep theoretical reflection on the genre. Torrente combines in...

(in English): The diploma's thesis deals with the natural theme in the work of Argentine poet Alfonsina Storni. The first part briefly outlines her biography. Following theoretical chapter presents several literary movements of which the writer is considered to be part of: modernism, postmodernism and avant-garde. Among others the work refers to the distinctive position of the author in the Hispano-american poetry.
