Trča, Matouš ; Procházka, Josef (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (referee)
TITLE: A web application for learning English vocabulary AUTHOR: Matouš Trča DEPARTMENT: IT & Technical Education Department SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Josef Procházka, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create an operational prototype of a web application, which would help students to practice English vocabulary. The algorithm of the application will be based on Spaced Repetition technique, which incorporates increasing intervals of time between subsequent reviews of previously learned flashcards. The application will allow users to register, to create a new collection of flashcards, and it will optionally notify them by e-mail about their daily batch. The creation of flashcards will by semi-automated - users input the word, which they want to remember, and the system will generate flashcards using freely available dictionary APIs. The first, theoretical part focuses on general aspects of learning, memory and forgetting. It also compares the existing applications for learning vocabulary and their algorithms. The practical part of this bachelor thesis is concerned with the development of the application, from the design to the implementation and final user testing. KEYWORDS: learning, web application, English vocabulary, spaced repetition, flashcards
Authoring systems for the development of multimedia learning objects in teacher's preparation
Krotil, Martin ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Brdička, Bořivoj (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of multimedia learning objects and authoring systems for its design. In the form of a qualitative survey the paper discovers the most frequent practice teachers' requirements for these objects and systems. Subsequently, the paper carries out theoretical analysis of commonly available authoring systems for multimedia learning object creation and performs their evaluation from the point of view of the identified requirements. After that, the thesis notes that there is no authoring system available on the market that would adequately meet the requirements identified. Therefore, the paper works on the design and realization of such a system. Finally, the designed and implemented system is deployed in a real educational environment and its contribution to the teacher's work is validated by accomplished action research.
New trends in web technologies
Krotil, Martin ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Procházka, Josef (referee)
The work deals with new trends in Web technologies closely related to (X) HTML. The theoretical part introduces the basic concepts of Web technologies, describes the historical development of technology (X) HTML in the context of the closest associated technologies, and introduces new opportunities for using HTML5 and CSS3 technology. The practical part describes the design, functionality and technical solutions of the specific examples that demonstrate the selected benefits of HTML5 and CSS3 technologies in the area of educational Web applications development.
Issue of algorithm development and programming within the scope of computer science at primary schools
Albrecht, Karel ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Novák, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis is concerned with problems of algorithm development and programming on primary schools. The main target of the whole thesis is the project of new programming conception, which should bring better results on the field of programming and more effective way of teaching. In theoretic part there are introduced the most important terms from the field of algorithm development and programming, analysis of Czech and foreign education systems, mapping of possibilities of support of teaching from technological and didactical viewpoint. The new programming conception is suggested from theoretical bases. That conception is verified by approximately half-year action research at teaching of programming on 2nd level of primary school. In conclusion of the thesis there are introduced experiences, plusses and minuses of new conception of programming teaching.
Video as a didactic aid for inclusion on secondary school
Janíček, Pavel ; Brdička, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis compares (through the method of action research) the impact of using video tutorials with text manuals. The chosen content represented the programming by means of KODU Game Lab with text manuals and MINECRAFT Education Edition with the instructions in the form of video tutorials. At the end of each issue, students were assigned two tasks to work out. Their success rate results were subsequently evaluated. The influence of video tutorials was related to secondary school students: to those with special educational needs, long- term ill pupils and gifted athletes with extensive absence from school. The research in empirical part has proved that video tutorial is preferred learning tool rather than text materials; therefore, it should be considered as an important potential method for the individualization of teaching process. The implementation of video tutorials has obviously helped to make the learning outcomes of SEN students better. It can therefore be stated that video has a potential to serve as a prospective tool for the efficient inclusion of these pupils.
Use of Open Source platforms in education in the field of Graphic Design
Lukáš, David ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Štípek, Jiří (referee)
This diploma work is fokused on the opportunities of using the Open Source Programmes in the lessons at secondary vocational schools according to Graphic Design as a branch of study. In the theoretical part are basic terms explained and reachable educational sources and matherials including graphic editor work noticed . There are described the special signs of the Graphic design branch in a context with the secondary vocational school and the goals of education defined inside RVP (Frame Educational Plan). It speaks about the claims, their availability and the chance of their using as a legal area where are needed skills and experiences for students and their work aplication adopted. The practical part is dedicated to the survey of the ways of possible work in graphic editors and opportunities of using alternative graphic editors at each secondary school offering Graphic design as a branch of study. It includes time analysis of the vocational subjects defined in the School Educational Programme, questioner's investigation and interviews with the teachers. The situation in a real practice also with interviews with professionals and exployers are examined there too. We can find many problematic moments connected with the aplication of alternative graphic editors into the education and practice from...
