Rheological properties of asphalt binders
Coufalík, Pavel ; Bačová,, Katarína (referee) ; Komačka,, Jozef (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
Dissertation thesis is focused on rheological properties of asphalt binders and on changes of their performance during the lifetime in road structures. Aging processes of asphalt binders and methods of laboratory aging are described in the theoretical part of the thesis. Furthermore, basic rheological models and related test methods for the evaluation of asphalt binders are described. In the practical part, properties of asphalt binders are investigated after aging process and their performance is evaluated by empirical and functional test methods. The various methods of aging are compared with each other and a relationship between real conditions and laboratory aging is researched. In the next section, vacuum flashed cracked residue (VFCR) is added to the selected asphalt binders and their influence on rheological properties during description of aging of asphalt binders is investigated. The results were used in publication of two certified methodology under the title „The methodology for the evaluation of paving bitumen in terms of susceptibility to thermal oxidative aging“ and „The methodology describes laboratory aging of asphalt mixtures“. The results of the thesis are listed in the conclusion.
Usage of data for the pavement management system on roads II. and III. classes to assess the effects of external influences on the road surface
Skořepová, Eliška ; Mališ, Luděk (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The master thesis is focused on sorting collected primary data, their subsequent analysis and further comparison in the field of road defects. The collection of pavement failures was done by visual inspection with its recording to a computer for the pavement management system. The data later underwent detailed analysis with the aim to find a potential link between the road defect and the location of the damaged section. The study took place on 2nd and 3rd class roads in the Liberec Region, with special focus on those located near forests. The data collection itself took place in the Liberec Region in 2021. The processing and subsequent evaluation of collected data was done thanks to the availability of comparable data sets from 2014 and 2019 to 2021, so the development of road defects of the selected road network in relation to the surrounding afforestation could be assessed. The last part of this master thesis compares results in different classification levels, time periods and levels of afforestation.
Slurry surfacing - composition and quality issue
Dostál, Filip ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
This thesis is focused on slurry surfacing technology, particularly on microsurfacing. The theoretical part describes the differences between the slurry seal and microsurfacing. Ingredients for the production and laying. There are also described their advantages. The practical part presents proposal of mixture and demonstrate that the service of life of the emulsion mixture is closely related to the content of residual binder and composition of microsurface.
Usage of foam bitumen technology
Machel, Ondřej ; Komenda, Radek (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the production of warm mix asphalts, using the foam bitumen technology. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the basic division of roadway constructions, particularly on warm mix asphalts. The aim of the practical part was to find out whether the produced asphalt mixture retains its functional properties when the operating temperature is reduced. For this purpose, two asphalt mixtures of the ACO 11+ type at operating temperature of 150 °C and reduced operating temperature of 130 °C were made. Functional tests and empirical and functional tests were carried out on the produced asphalt mixtures and the extracted bitumen binders respectively. In the conclusion of the thesis, the results of the tests are mutually compared.
Milling of asphalt layers of pavements
Brida, Peter ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The bachelor thesis is focused on the comparison of the influence of the milling machine movement speed on the properties of RAP (reclaimed asphalt pavement). The theoretical part describes issue of production and usage of RAP. The practical part evaluates the sieve size distributions of these materials and needle penetration and softening point of bitumen recovered from RAP samples.
Low volume roads
Nováková, Kristýna ; Stehlík, Dušan (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to process the issue of low volume roads in a theoretical way. Attention will be paid to experiences abroad and in Czech republic as well, considering the structural composition, used methods, materials and costs.
Rejuvenators in recycled asphalt material
Klein, Marek ; Coufalíková, Iva (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the use of rejuvenating additives in asphalt mixtures with reclaimed asphalt pavement. The theoretical part describes methods of adding reclaimed asphalt pavement to new asphalt mixtures. There are also explained principles of tests on asphalt binder: needle penetration, softening point, dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), bending beam rheometer (BBR) and short-therm aging of asphalt binders by the RTFOT method. The practical part of the thesis explains procedures of adding rejuvenating additives to asphalt mixtures in laboratory conditions. In the practical part are also evaluated results of tests on asphalt binder.
The usage of the fine aggregates to cement bound mixtures
Švarcová, Monika ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
This bachelor thesis occupies with use of fine aggregates in hydraulically bound mixtures for road pavement bases and sub-bases. The theoretical part describes properties of bound mixtures, aggregates and bound materials. This part also deals with laboratory methods used for bound mixtures and foreign research. In the practical part sand and gravel, crushed stone and recycled fine aggregates are used in bound mixtures with cement or cement and fluidized bed combustion ash. The unconfined compressive strength and frost and water resistance of bound mixtures are tested. The results of laboratory tests are evaluated and compared. The used mixtures are mostly found as suitable for pavement sub-bases.
Interaction between asphalt binder and filler
Indráková, Kristýna ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The thesis is mainly focused on comparison of properties of mastics, that were mixed in lab. The samples of mastics were mixed of paving bitumen in combination with 9 samples of backhouse filler, 1 inappropriate sample containing mica and 1 sample of additive filler. The folowing tests were used for assessment of samples: The particle density of filler-pyknometer method, The delta ring and ball test, The complex shear modulus and phase angle, The multiple stress creep and recovery test. The tests results were evaluated and compared. The results of the thesis are listed in the conclusion.
