Study of mechanical properties of magnesium-based composites

In the present work, the mechanical properties of AJ51 magnesium alloy and composite is studied. Compression tests in the temperature range of 20řC-300řC have been preformed. The microstructure of the specimen was studied by means of light optical microscopy. The work is focused on the elucidation of the micromechanisms acting during plastic deformation of the composite specimens. Further a comparison between the mechanical properties of alloy and the composite is presented.

Simple experiments under the microscope

The aim of this work is to focus on a few high school physics experiments, which are explain in several wals or incorrectly or contain a part that is somehow overlooked. Appropriate adjustment of the experiments I wanted to refute the false explanation, deside which is correct or complete lack of explanation. At the end, I chose four experiments. All of them can be found in any high school textbook or collection of tasks and their explanation are either incomplete or not clear. They are: Conducting electrical current in the glass, where I investigated why heated glass conduct current. Archimedes's law in gases, where I tried to find out, why the bubbles floating in CO2, are after while falling to the bottom. Electrostatic motor, where I tried to find out, what causes the rotation of the motor, which is represented by PET bottle. And a free fall of a tennis ball, where I was finding out, how much is a time of fall influenced by air resistance and what is the minimal height, from which have to be balls thrown, for detecting different moment of impact by the human eye.

Astronomical research at Charles University in Prague from 1882 until the present time

Charles- Ferdinand University was split intu Czech and German universities in 1882. From then both parts were developing independently. Astronomical Institute of the German University was directed by eminent selenograph Ladislaus Weinek (from 1883 to 1913), Adalbert Prey (1918- 1930), Einstein's friend and the first director of the Einstein Institute in Potsdam Erwin Finlay Freundlich (1936 -1938) and Werner Schaub (1939 -1945). The German University was shut down in 1945. The Czech Astronomical Institute was found in 1887 by August Seydler. After Seydler's death the Institute was assumed by Gustav Gruss in 1892. From 1919 do 1943 Vladimir V. Heinrich was the head of the Institute, in 1953 -1967 it was Josef M. Mohr and 1970 1990 Vladimír Vanýsek. The direstors of the State Observatory, that became an independent state research institute after 1918, were František Nušl in 1920 -1938, Otto Seydl in 1938 -1948 and František Link in 1948- 1952. The State Observatory, including Ondřejov Observatory, became the Astronomical Institute of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

Physics in household - nontraditional set of the school experiments

The unusual set of experiments created as part of the diploma thesis includes experiments related to the mechanics and properties of fluids. Experiment implementation is accessible to all future experimenters, as only simple tools are used. The textis aimed primarily at basic and high school students. However, it will be equally useful to their teachers. The diploma thesis also provides a concise review of similar sets of experiments, describes the concept of the set of experiments, offers a how-to manual and lists the means used to put the work together. Development and deployment of multimedia learning objects (physics)

In this diploma thesis you'll find suggestions for projects and worksheets drawn up for high school teachers of physics. The aim is to help teachers to prepare interesting physics course for students, in which the students will participate actively. Their goal will often be to construct their own theories, which they should proof and defend. In my projects I've mainly focused on mechanics (biomechanics of fall, biomechanics of stroke, kinematic description of vehicle on road, etc) and interdisciplinary links of physics with other courses, in particular with biology (zero gravity state, biomechanics of fall and stroke). Most of created projects assume using of common camcorder and video editing software. Some projects require high-speed camcorder and although buying this camcorder into schools is not very expensive in these days, in my thesis I'm offering several own video recordings ready for subsequent physical processing.
