Němcová, Alice ; Pech, Milan (advisor) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee) ; Rathouská Štroblová, Kateřina (referee)
The problematics of art in public space during the period of normalization on the example of the Prague metro This thesis deals with the problematics of art in public space during the period of normalization on the example of the Prague metro. The premises of metro required formal restrictions on the artworks that were intended to embellish it. For security reasons the artworks were not allowed to be on the platforms, nor in the central access tunnel, and could appear only in the vestibules and public passages or on street level at the exits from stations. On the one hand Prague metro had a clearly political component, emphasizing the friendly relationships with the Soviet Union and the key importance of the involvement of Soviet experts for the existence of modern transport systems in Prague. On the other hand, the same project made it possible to involve artists whose independent work was rejected by the regime. At the beginning of the text, I summarize the history of the Prague metro and the phenomenon of underground transport as such, followed by a section devoted to the influence of the Moscow metro on the Prague environment. The main portion of the thesis is dedicated to the art general, circumstances of the origin of artworks, assessment, financing, and realization of works of art in the...

Graffiti and his "space" - graffiti in the context of space, architecture and town
Levý, Martin ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Půtová, Barbora (referee)
Graffiti and his "space" - graffiti in the context of space, architecture and town This work presents a more indepth analysis of the graffiti phenomenon. It aims to analyse this phenomenon in the context of urban environment, or, more precisely, the metropolis, as it would be impossible to study graffiti outside the context of modern urban space. It expands the arguments and theories outlined previously and deals with the theory of spaces and "non-spaces". It analyses graffiti in terms of its "non- visuality", language, text and communication and explores further arguments for its possible acceptance within the sphere of visual arts. Our analysis has led us to believe that graffiti is a phenomenon with multiple functions and that visuality is only one of them, existing as part of a larger cluster of other features and functions it fulfills within culture and subcultures. Prague and Florentine neoreneissance architecture
Boháčová, Kateřina ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Hoftichová, Petra (referee)
The recovery of the historicist style s was caused by the inconsistence of the period that took the past as something perfect and incomparable, but at the same time wanted to be distanced from it. Architecture helped the people to cross the chasm between the period before and after the industrial revolution. The fact that one had around him modem buildings, in technical sense, that cited the past, could give him a feeling that he lived in the past and present at the same time. This thesis would like to present the architecture in the cultural and historical context of the 19th century and show a least a lirtle bit of its connections with the society, ideas, preference s and abilities to face up to changes, and as well as to find the moments that led to the comeback of the renaissance period. It tries to show both critical and adoring views on historicist architecture that was appreciated in recent time. The first part of the thesis presents the historical and cultural situation in both countries because this fact could help to understand the ideological origins of the neo-renaissance architecture. It shows the opinions of the specialists on the historici st architecture. The thesis is focused on Prague and Florence and tries to discover the reasons why the renaissance style was in these countries so admired...

Women of the group UB 12 in the context of contemporary Czech culture
Štroblová, Kateřina ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Hoftichová, Petra (referee)
The era of the years 1948 - 1968 in Czechoslovakia was full of historical reversions and events. Also sociocultural scene passed in this period through important changes. From the repressions of the fifties through "the golden sixties" to the "normalisation" of the seventies; all in the shadow of communistic totality. Beside the official art under the dictate of socialist realism the antinomie movements occured here; connecting at prewar modem and avantgarde at the beginning. After enforcing the abandoning of the interdict of art groups, the artists began to associate themselves to different groups, based on friendship or collective artistic opinions. One ofthese groups was UB 12, founded in 1959. The artists ofthe group were of different age; beside of friendship the admiration for French culture and art and also the "poetics of everyday life" was the link between some of them. The group broke after the year 1968. Although the group wasn't united in artistic manners and didn't have the collective manifesto (which often led to its evaluation as average or inexpressive ), it assumed important place in the Czech art. Many of its members (like Václav Boštík, Stanislav Kolíbal, Adriena Šimotová) are considered as ones of the most outstanding artistic personalities of the Czech art of the second half of201 h...
