Tomášková, Anna ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Charvátová, Anežka (referee)
(in English): The objective of this diploma thesis is to show the way of Mario Vargas Llosa's literary vision and his interpretation of Lima in the novel The Time of the Hero. My aim is also to express the particularity and distinctiveness of the imagery of Lima in the novel. In the beginning, I mention the most important facts of history of the city, specifically the 50's and the 60's of the 20th century, which are the decades of the novel's formation and publication. This part is based on the book of essays Lima la horrible of Sebastián Salazar Bondy in which the author describes the world of the Lima's population in this period. I also introduce briefly evolution of the image of the city in the Peruvian literature. This part is based, besides others, on the essay "Lima, ciudad sin novella" of Julio Ramón Ribeyro. In the main part of my thesis I mention the storyline of the novel. After that, I focus my attention on the structure of the novel The Time of the Hero, which is characterized by alternation of narrative spaces and tenses. This aspect helps to make the story uncertain. I also describe the formal side of the novel, primarily the arrangement of the main chapters and their smaller parts which are symmetricaly ordered according to the concerned topic, place or time. I present the main two...

This study is focused on the fi rst creat ive period of the novel ist Mario Vargas Llosa, which is bordered approximately by the era of the "Boom" of the new hispanoamerican novel . The aim of this study is to out l ine Vargas Llosa's view on l i terature and i ts funct ion, wri ter and his mission, relat ionship between the fict ion and the real i ty and the piece creat ion process. The study examines these opi - nions from the point of view of thei r general val idi ty and observes the extent of thei r implementat ion in his novel La Casa Verde. The creat ion background of this novel is a subject of a special interest . Ment ioned opinions form Vargas Llosa's integrated concept of the novel as a genre and, in spi te of the fact that thei r general val idi ty is quest ioned in this study, the author uses them success ful ly in wri t ing both novels and l i terary cri t iques. There is also carried out the interpretation and analysis of the "novela total" theory which is based on Mario Vargas Llosa's essential essays; García Márquez: historia de un deicidio and La orgía perpetua: Flaubert y "Madame Bovary" and is faced with narrative techniques of the novel La Casa Verde. This confrontat ion shows that the majori ty of the techniques described in the theory were used by Vargas Llosa in the novel succes sful...
The art and the Eros in the Mario Vargas Llosa's novel Elogio de la madrastra (In praise of the stepmother)
Živná, Šárka ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Charvátová, Anežka (referee)
This study, as stated in the title "The art and the eros in the Mario Vargas Llosa's novel Elogio de la madrastra (In Praise of the Stepmother)", is dedicated to the theme of art and eros in the mentioned novel. Fine arts are presented in the novel by six paintings, which are connected with imaginations of the novel heroes. The series of the chapters describing the paintings creates so-called pictorial line. This line blends together with verbal line that is represented by the storyline as such. These two lines create the axis of the first part of this study. The first part analyses the verbal line, outlines the storyline in brief, characteristics of the protagonists and the world surrounding them. It systematically strives to place in the structure of the novel based on the type of the chapters. It doesn't even miss out the hygienic rituals, which don Rigoberto has in favour. Then the pictorial line follows. Firstly, the summary of the paintings is introduced and then the individual subchapters dedicated to every painting are presented. They are lined up according to their appearance in the novel. Every subchapter mentions in the prologue the basic biographical data about the author of the quoted work of art. It tries to highlight the data, which are crucial for the interpretation of the work of art. Then...
La bodega by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez in two Czech translations
Zajícová, Vlasta ; Uličný, Miloslav (advisor) ; Charvátová, Anežka (referee)
The name of the Spanish prose-writer Vicente Blasco Ibáez was well known in the Czechoslovakia of the 1920s. Between 1919 and 1931 twenty of his works were published in the country, out of which sixteen were translated by Karel Vít-Veith. At that time Ibáez was a popular author in other European countries as well as in the United States where his works achieved a great success. He lived and wrote in the same period as the Spanish "Generation of 1898". Nevertheless, both his thought and his literary method differed a lot from the Generation. His late work did not reach the quality of his early prose and is considered to be effete. Our thesis focuses on the Ibáez's novel called La bodega and its two translations into Czech. La bodega was first published in 1905 and belongs to the cycle of social novels written by Ibáez between 1903 and 1905. At that time the writer's critical stances towards Spanish society, monarchy and the church were most apparent in his works. The novel was translated into Czech twice; first time by Karel Vít-Veith in 1927, second time by Václav Cibula in 1956. Our thesis starts with a chapter concerning writer's life, his work and political career which is of crucial importance for reasoning the author's popularity in the Czechoslovakia between the two world wars. The following chapter...

Juan Carlos Onetti: short stories from 1933-1950
Onetti tuto techniku přejímá, a nikdy nesklouzává do tendence vysvětlovat...
