A Critique of New Atheism
Dravecký, Pavol ; Bouma, David (advisor) ; Pospíšil, Ctirad Václav (referee)
A Critique of New Atheism London buses with atheistic banners in January 2009 were only one instance of an emerging stream of "new atheists" who in the name of Science proclaim the end of God. This thesis shall first present a twofold critique of the foremost activist of this movement, Richard Dawkins and his central volume "The God Delusion", so that it eventually looks for an explanation for his surprising success. It will conclude that in spite of his boldness, Dawkins fails to present reasonable criticism of Christian theism. Since his popularity cannot be ascribed to any relevant innovative thought, its roots must probably be found in certain aspects of our time and perhaps in an inadequacy of the language of the Church. Keywords: Atheism, Richard Dawkins, Existence of God, Christianity, Fundamental Theology

Černá, Renata ; Bouma, David (advisor) ; Mohelník, Tomáš (referee)
Anglická anotace / English annotation Bc. Renata Černá - THE LIFE AND WORK OF REGINALD DACÍK This thesis comprises two sections: the first part deals briefly with the rich and varied life of Reginald Dacík; the other part, which is more voluminous, is devoted to Dacík's work, in particular to his work published in book form. Father Dacík had a beneficial influence on the lives of a large number of Christians. He belonged to a well-known and active generation of Moravian Dominicans and is considered to be one of the foremost representatives of Neo-Thomism in the Czech Republic. He followed the example of St Thomas Aquinas, whose work he took as an authoritative basis in the fields of dogmatics, morality and spiritual life. During his life he experienced persecution and imprisonment, even his life was in danger. He was brought face to face with his own human weakness as well as with the limits of the life in this world. When in prison, he was not allowed to write, but living a life with God, he was able to witness it, and moreover, he managed to teach in secret. Having been released from prison, he worked at Velehrad with the Congregation of Sisters of St Cyril and Methodius. As far as this period of his life is concerned, his work in book form seems to be rather modest. The account of Dacík's work would not...

Škácha, Petr ; Vopřada, David (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
Christians in cyberspace. The aim of this work is to find an answer to the question of whether it is possible to use cyberspace safely and for good, or whether cyberspace itself is bad and its use incorrect. The first part of the work is devoted to the rapid technological development of recent decades in general. The first chapter defines the concept of cyberspace. The second chapter will summarize the development of technologies related to cyberspace, mainly telecommunications technologies. The next chapters look at how this change and the spread of technology has changed the way people communicate, and describe the most important changes, both positive and negative. The second part of the work tries to introduce to the specific worlds of the inhabitants of cyberspace, to the communities that have emerged around the new technologies with different goals. The last, third part is then the core of this work, to which the first two parts lead. With the help of some indicators from the field of politics and sociology, the situation of Czech farmers is characterized, which can influence their ethical decisions. There are several facts that appear to be ethically problematic and require a certain position. Otrubová, Ludmila ; Červenková, Denisa (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
The Concept of Death in Christianity and Islam The present bachelor's thesis investigates the approaches to the concept of death in Christian and Islam religions. For the purpose of this work, Roman-Catholic Church and Sunni faiths are compared. The thesis analyses views on death from cultural standpoints - the experience of terminal illness and dying within families and in institutions in this country as opposed to those with Islam faith prevailing, followed by the treatment of death in sacred books, the Bible and the Quran, in both the monotheistic traditions and respective religious authorities' interpretations of death. A substantial section is dedicated to burial rituals - the funeral mass in church with liturgy which are significant for the Christian tradition, and body preparation and the burial itself which are highly elaborate in the Islam tradition. An attempt is made at detecting and delimiting the main differences in burial practices. The work then introduces the various resting places of the dead, studying burial places, graves, tombs and other places of piety in the way they are decorated and the frequency at which they are visited (a matter of ongoing discussion in Islam). The work is concluded by a description of burial practices of Moslems living in the Czech Republic. Keywords...
The Christian Rejection of Animal Sacrifice and the New-Testament Conception of the Christ's Death
Vilímek, Jan ; Bouma, David (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The Christian Rejection of Animal Sacrifice and the New-Testament Conception of the Christ's Death Abstract The thesis describes the relationship between the phenomenon of the animal sacrifice and the death of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of my study, I explain the basic interpretative categories that can help answer the role and substance of the blood sacrifice practice in the context of ritual activities of the archaic civilizations. Particular attention is paid to the Old Testament cult, because the sacrificial terminology, originating from this milieu, served within the framework of the New Testament canon as one of the fundamental ways to express Jesus Christ's death mystery. The thesis follows up on modern anthropological theories of the animal sacrifice; in comparison with the specific Christian concept of the sacrifice, it shows how Christ's unritual death and forms of its appropriation by believers might be considered the fulfillment and surpassing of all existing forms of sacrifice. Keywords Animal sacrifice, Christ's death, soteriology, ritual practices, Christian explanotory schemes of sacrifice
