Weaknesses of hydrogen energy
Zeleňák, Rastislav ; Elbl, Patrik (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This Bachelor's thesis focuses on exploring and researching the various technologies available for producing hydrogen and their shortcomings. The production of hydrogen, a clean and renewable energy source, has become increasingly important as the world shifts towards sustainable energy solutions. This thesis examines the various methods of hydrogen production including steam methane reforming, electrolysis and production by biological processes. This bachelor's thesis also deals with different methods of storing hydrogen and transporting it. Next, the negative properties of hydrogen are listed, such as its explosiveness, or the degradation of materials used in hydrogen technologies, i.e. hydrogen embrittlement. The work focuses on its characterization, mechanisms and prevention against it.
Steam gas boiler design
David, Josef ; Bursa, Robert (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of a steam gas boiler with a steam output of 50 t/h. The required steam output parameters are a temperature of 425 °C and a pressure of 3,6 MPa. After a short theoretical introduction, combustion stoichiometry is performed. Subsequently, the dew point, boiler efficiency and the amount of fuel supplied to the boiler are calculated. On the basis of further thermal calculations, a dimensional design of the combustion chamber and other heat exchange surfaces is created. The proposed drum boiler consists of three strokes. At the end of the work, control calculations are performed. A design drawing of the boiler is created from the resulting parameters.
Utilisation of waste heat potential in the flue gas
Palyza, Vojtěch ; Tomáš,, Zdeněk (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
The purpose of this thesis is to propose a conceptual design of flue gas condenser and its application into a heating plant. The theoretical part contains of necessary knowledge important for understanding the issues raised in the thesis. The conclusion of this thesis is comparison of different types of flue gas condensers, low temperature economizer and absorption heat pump followed by economic evaluation using this technology in the heating plant.
Study of the difference between natural gas and hydrogen combustion
Winter, Josef ; Lisý, Martin (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This thesis deals with the combustion of natural gas with hydrogen in certain volumetric concentrations. The change in physical parameters due to the addition of hydrogen, which differs in its properties from natural gas, was studied. The thesis is divided into a research part, where the properties of natural gas and hydrogen are described, including a comparison with each other, the effects of gas properties on flame, emissions, or temperature. In the second part, a calculation for the fireplace with chosen dimensions was performed and the changes in physical properties due to the addition of hydrogen were observed and the findings are summarized, which will have to be considered in the design of the fireplace. All calculations are added to the appendices.
Assessment of energy storage systems - Power to gas
Šojat, Filip ; Zlevorová, Tereza (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis is focuses on the issue of electrical energy storage using Power to Gas technology. The thesis is divided into two parts: a research part and a practical part. The research part provides a detailed description of the basic principles of Power to Gas technology, hydrogen production, and its potential applications in various fields. The practical part consists of a hypothetical study on obtaining electrical energy from solar panels and subsequently storing it as hydrogen. Various storage methods are compared.
The design of nuclear power plant steam generator
Zimmermann, Jakub ; Baláš, Marek (referee) ; Milčák, Pavel (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis consists of three parts. The introductory research section briefly describes the history of nuclear energy, followed by an analysis of the three circuits (primary, secondary, and tertiary) in a nuclear power plant. The second part provides a detailed description of various steam generators used worldwide. The third and main part of this bachelor's thesis covers the thermal calculation of a steam generator, focusing on determining the heat exchange surface area and the length of heat exchange tubes inside, followed by a comparison of steam generator sizes based on their number of connections to a single nuclear reactor block. At the end, I modelled a model and created a diagram of the steam generator based on the results from the thermal calculation.
Design of a heat exchanger for the recovery of waste heat from a sewerage system
Novák, Filip ; Baláš, Marek (referee) ; Toman, Filip (advisor)
The theoretical part of bachelor thesis was focused on heat exchangers and wastewater heat recovery systems. In theoretical part, everyday applications and practical notes of heat exchangers and recovery systems were emphasized. In practical part of thesis, heat calculation of double tube heat exchanger was carried out for operation in winter months. Using --NTU method, heat output of exchanger was recalculated for each month separately, from which, the total heat recovered in the course of year was calculated. Last part of the thesis was focused on a economical aspect of the heat exchanger (manufacturing and maintenance costs). This amount of money was compared with cost of water heating using heat pump, gas boiler and automatical wood pellet boiler.
Design of a flue gas exchanger for the use of condensation heat from flue gas
Čulík, Martin ; Burda,, Radim (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
The subject of this thesis is the design of a flue gas exchanger for the use of condensation heat from flue gas. The first part of the thesis is rather theoretical and presents the main issues of condensation and its characteristics. Next, the necessary calculation relations for a complete thermal-hydraulic calculation are given. Using this knowledge obtained from the theoretical part, a flue gas exchanger is then designed in the practical part. Furthermore, for the same parameters, the exchanger is calculated in the PPSD program and both approaches are compared. Finally, a sensitivity analysis will be performed.
Replacement of existing heat exchanger
Vaculík, Štěpán ; Toman, Filip (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This thesis deals with the possibilities of replacing an existing inefficient heat exchanger with a new one. In the first theoretical part a research of heat exchanger types, their operational features and suitable application is carried out. In the second practical part, the control calculation of the existing bundle heat exchanger with U-tubes is performed first, followed by the thermo-hydraulic design of a new bundle heat exchanger with straight tubes and a new plate heat exchanger. In the last part of the work, a comparison and assessment of which of the alternatives is the most suitable is made.
Parametric study of air cooled heat exchanger
Tichý, Marek ; Toman, Filip (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with air-cooled heat exchangers. Firstly, these types of heat exchangers are described theoretically in many different variations. The following part of the diploma thesis is focused on thermohydraulic calculations that aim to determine the resulting heat transfer coefficient and the necessary heat exchange surface. This calculation depends on the chosen piping and its geometry. The design of a specific heat exchanger follows the calculation, which is documented with a projection drawing. In the following section, a parametric study is conducted to investigate the dependence of heat exchanger properties on changes in its geometry.
