Built up by one author's concept, specific artistic intention, which manifest itself as coherent in operation with different meidums of expression at the sphere of naturallanguage as well as at the sphere of visual images. There is in a same way apllied a princip of paraphrase and variacy, a multiplication of perspective, exploitation of authentic, assumed material, citation, aleathoric princip etc. Kolář is aimed at evident character of a reality and at the matter, how we experience it by understanding a world, particularly through the mediation of language. Oldřich Králík, textual critic and editor (based on Bezruč material)
Kosák, Michal ; Špirit, Michael (advisor) ; Wiendl, Jan (referee) ; Opelík, Jiří (referee)
Based on Bezruč material, the present thesis entitled Oldřich Králík, Textual Critic and Editor chronologically follows the establishing and development of textological concepts and editorial approaches ofthe said scholar. The central topic is dosely connected with terms of Králík's stratigraphy, synchrony and diachrony, as well as the genetic method. Králík's method is built on temp oral attribution; therefore, the problem of the dating of Bezruč' s work is of crucial importance for the thesis' argument. The thesis also confronts Oldřich Králík' s textological and editorial views with those ofhis opponents. In the series of scholarly disputes, Czech textual criticism defined its subject matter, attempting to define its position within the context of other sciences and humanities, especially linguistics, philology and literary theory, as well as taking its stand in regard to historiography. Simultaneously, fundamental working modes were formulated. Exceeding the home field, the disputes moved to the intemationallevel through the textological/editorial department ofthe Intemational Commitiee ofSlavic Languages. Among others, the debates resulted in the so-called manual of practical text criticism, Editor and Text, published in 1971, which has strongly influenced Czech editorial practice to the present day.
Exile journal Sklizeň
Kmochová, Radka ; Holý, Jiří (advisor) ; Špirit, Michael (referee)
The chief subject of this work is an annotated bibliography for the exile magazine Sklizeň. Besides the bibliography the work also contains an introductory reflection which, in part, focuses more generally on exile and the situation of Czech culture in exile after 1948, and in part introduces the magazine itself in more detail. Since the magazine was published for over ten years, the bibliography is relatively substantial. Each contribution is complemented with an annotation and has its own bibliographical reference number. Classified advertisements, unsolicited material and illustrated and text supplements are not referenced. Missing headings of some contributions, apart from minor items, are replaced in the annotation by the opening words of the item. For minor items, which often consist of only one sentence, the headline is not replaced by the opening words but the content of the item is given briefly in note form. In the part of an entry relating to the content label of the contributions we occasionally quote the editorial comments published in Sklizeň. We have chosen extracts which show the history of the text in more detail or convey the content of the articles. Three full stops indicates passages left out. The bibliography of the articles is supplemented by: an index of authors; a subject index by...
The Holocaust through the eyes of the guilty participants
Dusíková, Arna ; Holý, Jiří (advisor) ; Špirit, Michael (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is not to increase the already large amount of factual literature on holocaust, but to think about a phenomenon of guilt with the help of such literary texts that enable to look at the side of culprits. Beside the guilt itself, the stress is being put on narrative procedures used in the pieces with the so called unreliable narrator. Whatever the literary process may be, it cannot avoid historical terms and facts, that are, though, mentioned only to make the text easier to comprehend. The knowledge of holocaust, on an elemenatary basis at least, is expected anyway.
Young Czech poetry in the 1980s and the 1990s (Valency of the lyrical subject in selected poetry debuts)
Kapustová, Andrea ; Bílek, Petr (referee) ; Špirit, Michael (advisor)
MA-thesis Young Czech Poetry in the 1980s and 1990s. Valency of the Lyrical Subject in Selected Poetry Debuts focuses on poetry debuts of selected Czech authors of the 1980s and 1990s and attempts to chart similarities and differences in the young poetry of these periods. The main concern of the thesis is the lyrical subject with regard to its valency potential. An important factor in the formation of the lyrical subject is the grammatical person, which constitutes the basis for the perception of the lyrical subject and for the interpretation of the text. The method of the thesis is critical reading of the debuts and first texts. The thesis has six main parts. Initially, the literary historical context of the 1980s and 1990s Czech poetry is outlined, followed by a literary theoretical discussion of the lyrical subject. The core of the thesis consists of readings and analyses of the debuts with regard to the lyrical subject's valency, and subsequent comparative study of the texts of both periods of Czech poetry. The thesis arrives at the conclusion that the lyrical subject is expressed differently in the 1980s and 1990s: It is emphasised in the 1980s, while in the 1990s it stays rather hidden in the text. The reception of modern lyrical poems is one of the open questions of the thesis.
Hidden feminity of Jiřina Hauková
The Poetry of Milan Koch in the Context of Beat Generation and Underground Literature
Mikšovská, Markéta ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Špirit, Michael (referee)
Key words (in English) Poetry, Underground, Beat generation, Counterculture, Analysis, Interpretation Abstract (in English) This bachelor thesis is dealing with the relationship between the literature of Czech beat generation and the underground of 60's and 70's of the 20th century. The main topic is an analysis of two collections of poems by Milan Koch: Červená KarKULKA and Hóra Láv, which are interpreted mainly in comparison to the poems of the collection Blues pro bláznivou holku by Václav Hrabě and to Howl, a poem by Allen Ginsberg. The interpretation focuses on concordances and differences in poetics of those - but also others - writers, on motivic analysis, on the bound with the context of then time and also discusses the influence of the american beat generation and their texts mediated by the translations of Jan Zábrana in the 60's (from the part in Světová literatura magazine in 1959 to later works in context of the 60's). This work is also about the influence of Allen Ginsberg's visit in Prague on the early underground and finally, present text tries to widen the knowledge about the life of the poet Milan Koch, too.
