The Lifestyle of a Person with a Disability
KOSTLIVÁ, Hana
This thesis, titled "The Lifestyle of a Person with a Disability" deals with the quality of life and aims to map out possible differences in the subjective perception of quality of life of visually impaired individuals and individuals without this disorder. Visual impairment brings many difficulties in various areas of life. The most serious ones include learning about the outside world, manipulating objects, movement in space, but also reduced opportunities for employment, and social isolation. Each person, however, presents the concept of quality of life a different way based on the differences in values and needs that a person recognizes. The theoretical part is concerned with visual impairment terminology, the anatomy and physiology of the organs of sight, and the types of visual impairments. I describe the characteristics of individual groups of visually impaired persons, their opportunities to get a job and I mention the possibilities of using assistive devices. Finally, I mention the quality of life of persons with the impairment mentioned above. In the practical part of the thesis, I tried to find out, using the method of questioning, how people with visual impairment and those without this disorder perceive their quality of life, health and other areas of life. A sub-objective was to compare the quality of life of these two observed groups. With the information obtained from both the visually impaired persons and from persons without visual impairment, I could focus on possible changes in the opinions of these two observed groups and perform a comparative analysis of the data collection. The research was carried out in Blatná, in Strakonice, in České Budějovice, and in Prague. To obtain information, I chose the technique of questionnaires, i.e. a quantitative research. One research set was compiled from 31 respondents with no visual impairment, i.e. 56.0 %, and the other set consisted of 24 respondents with a visual impairment, i.e. 44.0 %. The research results were processed in the graphs. Based on the research, I found that there is no difference between the quality of life of visually impaired people and the quality of life of individuals without this disorder. Satisfaction in specific areas of life, i.e. health, relationships, leisure, social, professional and financial, does not differ between the groups. It was shown that the respondents are most satisfied with leisure time and relationships, while dissatisfied with health and finances.
The Importance of Information Communications Technology for Pupils and Students with a Visual Disability in the Educational Process
PRÁZDNÁ, Radka
My dissertation thesis deals with information and communication technologies in the context of education and their impact on the subsequent quality of life of individuals with sight impairment. The work shows that it appears essential to provide pupils and students with impaired sight not only with the standard volume of knowledge, but also with specific and social skills and competences which will become a tool compensating their impaired sight handicap. The objective of the practical section of my thesis consists in determining the specifics of the process of instruction of pupils and students with sight impairment focussed on information technologies and in comparing the acquired data with research results aimed at the majority population of pupils and students. The said issues were analysed using the quantitative procedure of questionnaire research and evaluated under the application of frequency statistics. The testing of hypotheses was based on the Chi-square independence test. The research also incorporated the target group of parents of pupils with sight impairment and their teachers. Significant factors affecting the optimisation of the education and instruction process as a whole in the above mentioned target groups were determined and compared. Based on the acquired data and their statistic evaluation I succeeded to prove a significant correlation between the level of acquired competences in the field of information and communication technologies and the level of sight impairment. The results of the empiric section also suggest that the education of students with impaired sight within the mainstream educational process shows considerable reserves as compared with the educational process applied in special schools for pupils with a health handicap. The theoretical section of my thesis is divided into three chapters focussed on the conceptual and material specification and definition of the problem. The introductory chapter deals with the theoretical issues of sight impairment and the individuals with this type of handicap. The second chapter presents the system of the education of pupils and students with impaired sight and the concluding chapter deals with information and communication technologies as the tools compensating the information deficit in individuals with sight impairment. In co-operation with the Special Educational Centre based in České Budějovice, the results of my dissertation thesis will present the basis of recommendations targeted at an optimised formation of specific skills and competences in pupils with impaired sight educated within the mainstream educational process. The theoretical output of my thesis will result in study materials for the branch of specific educational studies in the Faculty of Health Care and Social Studies of the University of South Bohemia.
The types of tyflopaedical and tyflopaedicaly-using aids
ZETKOVÁ, Bohumila
This thesis titled ``Types of Typhlopaedic and Typhlopaedic Usable Aids{\crqq} is focused on problems of visually impaired people. In the theoretical part of my thesis I refer to anatomy of visual apparatus, opthalmopaedia, visual handicap, causes of visual handicap, visual imperfections and eye injuries. I could not ignore institutions being concerned with visually handicapped citizens and legislation related directly to the existing problems. The title of the thesis divulges narrow focus on the sphere of usable, upgrading and supplanting aids. The survey method and technique of data collection form should answer the basic hypothesis. Due to their financial and other intensity, the efficiency of electronic aids for visually handicapped is adequate to the society position nowadays. The total number of respondents engaged on the survey is forty-eight and all come from the South Bohemia region. The target of my effort was to map percent occurrence of various types of usable typhlopaedic aids, their usage and also availability for visually handicapped in South Bohemia region. The respondents should have answered fourteen questions and two sub-questions where the first three were stratification and the rest of them referred to the potential usage of various types of typhlopaedic aids. After comparison of all the results I found out that my appointed hypothesis proved true. However, I suppose that the typhlopaedic aids allowance should be increased as their price has been still rather high. The thesis could serve as study literature for students of Health and Social Faculty and also as informing and comprehensive material for people who want to solve these problems.
