Analysis of structural and proportional criteria of Romanesque and Pre-Romanesque rotundas.

Topic of this dissertation thesis follows previous dissertations dealing with reconstructions of historical buildings that were successfully defended at Institute of Building Structures, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology. The thesis deals with Romanesque and Pre-Romanesque round churches, called rotundas, that were built between 9th and 13th century in the historical territory of Great Moravia. Churches of similar shape can be also found in surrounding countries, but only scarcely. By the time of origin these rotundas were among the oldest masonry buildings built within borders of contemporary Czech Republic. Later some rotundas were destroyed and are known only thanks to the archaeological findings or written records. Some are still waiting to be discovered. Surviving rotundas are the oldest masonry buildings in Czech Republic, therefore it can be said that they belong to the most valuable historical buildings in the country. Preserved rotundas were often modified or rebuild in some way. Thanks to their age, origins of many of these buildings are shrouded in a mystery, which is one of the reasons why they attract attention of many researchers – archaeologists, historians and art historians. Many questions arise from their research. These questions have interdisciplinary character and finding the answers requires cooperation of specialists in different fields. One of these fields is building engineering. This dissertation thesis deals with proportional and structural analysis of Pre-Romanesque and Romanesque rotundas. For the proportional analysis author focused on verifying of some of the hypotheses of other researchers connected to the Romanesque rotundas. These include hypothesis dealing with use of historical units for the design of rotundas, hypothetical use of proportional canon, or some universal sets of proportional ratios of vertical and horizontal dimensions. Revitalization Program of Floral Garden in Kromeriz

Flower garden is located near the center and along with Kroměříž Podzámecká garden is a nature - architectural monuments, included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The whole garden is designed to very strict, according to the rules of Baroque garden architecture. Solved territory, the following Flower garden, in the past have been an integral part of the whole garden. For the contemporary nobility was a source of pleasure gardens and relaxation. Currently, the following Flower garden largely neglected and the public is not allowed here. For such sights, which Flower garden undoubtedly is, this situation is disquieting. Bachelor's thesis on the topic of revitalizing the garden should be to clarify issues and outline possible future restoration garden.

A House – A Chronicle

Diploma project “Chronicle House” is representing the creation of fictional historiographical interpretation of “the spirit of the place”. Rotunda is the columbarium The existence of object inside of the object, in this context, automatically creates a feeling of layeringness. The columbarium is oval shaped and the base level all the way by the perimeter consists of old windows from the panel houses, which were going through the process of modernization, particularly – change of windows. It serves now as a commemoration space. On the inside of the rotunda has been placed a museum of the ceased houses, where in the columbarium niches are placed models of these houses with the dates of birth and death, as well as with short epiphanies.

Znojmo – Castle, rotunda and brewery

Urbanistic and architectural study of future development of castle area in Znojmo. Main focus will be on creation of sustainable and vital part of the city with connections to landscape, townscape, castle, old brewery and romanesque rotunda of st. Catherine. Adaptation of historic buildings of castle and brewery for cultural and social center of town. Reconstruction and conversion will be based on theoretical work from previous semester. Urbanistic goal is creation and redefinition of public spaces of castle garden, rotunda hill and Hradni street and its integration with historic town center of Znojmo and valley of river Dyje.
