The datahub: de/blending museum data
Vandermaesen, Matthias
The Flemish Museums for Fine and Contemporary Art offer an overview of the art production in the Southern Netherlands and Belgium form the Middle Ages to the Twenty-First Century. The Flemish Art Collection is a non-profit organisation tasked with promoting the collection to an international and diverse audience. Delivery of knowledge and expertise curated by the museums is a big challenge. Blending cultural object records stored accross various databases and commercial registration systems is non-trivial and prevents opening up the collections across the walls of the museums. In 2015, the Flemish Art Collection started the Datahub Project. Over the past years, a modern metadata aggregation platform was built, leveraging open source technologies and open standards. This presentation will highlight the architecture of this platform, and the design process. The Datahub platform is a service oriented architecture and consists of three major components. The core is a home grown, reusable metadata aggregator called The Datahub. This web-application is build with the Symfony framework. Metadata records are ingested via a RESTful API, stored in a MongoDB database and disseminated via an OAI-PMH endpoint. User friendly discovery of metadata is covered via Project Blacklight and geared towards museal workers as well as the general public. Finally, we repurposed the Catmandu framework for flexible and extensible setup of ETL pipelines between the registration systems of the data providers, the Datahub and the discovery interface. Since we are exchanging information about cultural heritage objects, we use the LIDO XML exchange format designed and developed by ICOM. The project taught us several valuable lessons. What are the benefits of looking across the borders of your own domain? What are key success factors? How do you identify pitfalls? But it also raises a set of new questions. How do we go from here? What’s next? The tools and the codebase are freely available under a GPLv3 license and are actively documented and maintained on Github.

Czech-German Cooperation on the concrete example of the Czech-German Youth Exchange Coordination Centre Tandem
ŠVÉDOVÁ, Hana
This bachelor thesis analyses the work of Tandem, a Czech-German Youth Exchange Coordination Centre. Tandem functions as a coordination centre of youth-political cooperation between both countries. The term the international youth work is explained in the theoretical part and operates as a hyperonym to youth-political cooperation. Although the treaties for youth exchanges programmes must be ratified on highest political level, it is the juvenile who is in the centre of attention. Therefore, the bachelor thesis goes into the problematic issues which could occur due to intercultural differences among the juveniles during the exchange programmes and it also highlights the advantages of participation on the youth exchange programmes. It includes a brief outline of the development of the youth-political cooperation between both neighbouring countries after 1989. The practical part inquires into the organization Tandem, its foundation and the inner organizational structure which ensures the successful coordination of the exchange programmes. Attention was also paid to the areas of cooperation and concrete projects that were realized by Tandem. Furthermore, the bachelor thesis looks into the financing of this organization. Finally, this bachelor thesis concludes with the prospects of this organisation for the future that were discussed directly with both chiefs of Coordination Centre Tandem.
Awareness of CAN Syndrome in Children at the Children's Home in Radenín
KUKLOVÁ, Barbora
In the bachelor thesis I describe CAN syndrome and its types. The main part of the work is a description of the family, school, institutions, projects and organizations through which children can learn about CAN syndrome. I also focus on the multidisciplinary team, prevention and description of the children's home. In the practical part of the thesis I deal with research at selected clients at the Children's Home Radenín. The aim of the work is to find out what awareness of the CAN syndrome the children have. I will determine whether they know who they can turn to for assistance, whether they had preventive programmes at school, I deal with possible consequences of the CAN syndrome, etc. Qualitative research has been used to achieve the goal. As a research technique, I choose a semi-structured interview. I think this technique is the most suitable for children. Some of the children may have no awareness of the issue, so I can explain them the concept and the interview can continue.
