Physiotherapy for patients with rotator cuff lesion
PLÍHAL, Lukáš
I chose "Physiotherapy for Patients with Rotator Cuff Lesion" as a topic of the theses. This topic was chosen because I was interested in indispensable function of rotator cuff to stability and total shoulder joint functionality. Moreover, it is relatively often disorder of shoulder joint and that is why I wanted to complete my knowledge in this area. In the theoretical part I am focusing on the proper function of shoulder joint altogether. Following chapters in this part are explaining kinesiology of shoulder joint, clinical units of rotator cuff lesion and subsequent options of physiotherapy. In the practical part I am dealing with the quality research, where I look into the sample of three patients. Two of these patients were affected by rupture of rotator cuff, which was treated by operation, the last patient suffered from impingement syndrome. At the beginning the patient was physically examined. This was followed by eight therapies which were mainly focused on improving movement and muscle strength in shoulder joint. Patients affected by rupture were examined after six months after the surgery. The patient with impingement syndrome was examined after two weeks after the last therapy. According to results it is significant that there was improvement in movement and muscle strength in shoulder joint for all of the patients. The theses can be used by professional public, physiotherapists, possibly by students of physiotherapy for getting basic knowledge about rotator cuff, its pathology or possible physiotherapy procedures.
Possibilities of physiotherapy and sports in pregnancy
MACHAČOVÁ, Tereza
This work deals with the possibilities of phys.iotherapy and physical activities during pregnancy. The aim of this work was to describe physiological pregnancy and the way it impacts the musculoskeletal system; find out what activities are suitable for pregnant women and which of them were the most useful in practise. I placed these research questions: What is the impact of physiological pregnancy on musculoskeletal system? What physical activities are suitable during pregnancy? Which physical activities will really fit pregnant women? The work is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the anatomy of physiological pregnancy, describes woman's genitals, the duration of pregnancy, the changes in the body during pregnancy and their impact on musculoskeletal system. Then it generally describes which activities are and are not suitable to perform during pregnancy. The last point of the theoretical part covered physiotherapeutic methods, which I later used in the practical part. The practical part describes the methods which were used in the research and the way of processing the results. It also defines the research file and describes the work with individual pregnant women in detail. These chapters include the case history of pregnant women, the results of their entrance and final examination, descriptions of sessions, their results and recommendations. The aim of the work was met and the research questions answered. The sessions were positively assessed by the pregnant women. They brought them relieve from the pain that usually accompanies pregnancy. It the summary I think about the usage of these findings in practise and about how to introduce these therapeutic methods into the common lives of pregnant women.
Possibilities of physiotherapy idiopathic scoliosis in adults
LONGINOVÁ, Michaela
The bachelor thesis focuses on the idiopathic scoliosis of adults. The idiopathic scoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal deformity, which is characterized by a change of position of the vertebra. The etiology of this change is unknown. The condition often arises in childhood and remains in existence till adulthood. The idiopathic scoliosis is not getting worse in adults. However, it causes divergent complications and limitations in daily life. The adult patients often have backache so it is important to not forget about the physiotherapy that can positively influence the progression of the spine. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. Firstly, I describe some anatomical terms, after about like the scoliosis and its division. Then I characterize the term idiopathic scoliosis, its diagnostics, examinations and the therapy, which includes special concepts dealing with this diagnosis. After that, I define the characteristics of the idiopathic scoliosis in adults. In the practical part, there is a research that describes a case history of three patients suffering with the idiopathic scoliosis. Each case history contains information about the anamnesis, a kinesiological examination and characterization of therapies, which were applying for 2 months. The goal of the thesis is to represent ways of physiotherapy applied on adults suffering with the idiopathic scoliosis and to highlight the limitations in their everyday life. I also suggest an exercise focusing on the consequences of adults affected by the disease. The physiotherapists can use this thesis in practice, and it gives information for patients about the condition and its treatment.
Effect of physiotherapy on the mobility of patients with diagnosis of multiple sclerosis
ŽITNÁ, Petra
The presented bachelor thesis summarizes basic current knowledge about multiple sclerosis. It aims to research possibilities of affecting the mobility of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) offered by contemporary physiotherapy. The theoretical part deals with general anatomy of CNS and especially the etiology, forms, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and symptomatic treatment of MS. There are summarized current possibilities of physiotherapy used during attack and remission periods of MS. The research part contains four case studies dealing with patients with relapsing-remitting form of MS. There were carried out kinesiological measurements before the beginning of therapy and after its finish. The measurements contained case history, basic neurological examination, measurements using standardized balance and gait tests and posturography. All these kinesiological examinations were supplemented by descriptions of short-term physiotherapeutic plan, course of therapy and suggestion of a long-term plan. In conclusion there are presented results of the research and overall evaluation of the therapy. The therapies were based on using the interactive system Homebalance developed by Nintendo company to practice stability in combination with my own self-designed conventional therapy using mobilization of peripheral leg joints, exercises on balance platforms and sensorimotor stimulations. The chosen therapy had positive effects on postural confidence of all involved patients as it was proven by output measurements of postural stability and balance tests as well. The chosen therapy positively influenced mobility of the patients as it was recognized by gait tests which showed slight increase of walking speed.
Effectiveness of co-operation of physiotherapy and speech therapy in school-age children with cerebral palsy
KASPEROVÁ, Eliška
This Bachelor thesis focuses on a co-operation of physiotherapy and speech therapy in school-age children with cerebral palsy (CP). In the first part CP is described as an illness - its forms, origin and impaired communication ability of these children. Next is the description of basic methods used in physiotherapy. In speech therapy I mentioned important factors of working with these children. The next section is dedicated to a practical part of the thesis, which is a quality research formulated by case studies. The research file is comprised of three children suffering CP - two girls and a boy, all three attending the Kaňka citizens' counselling centre. I gathered all the information using an entry kinesiological analysis, aspection, insight into their medical documentation and results given by their speech therapist. The first goal of my work was to describe diagnostic and therapeutic procedures used in physiotherapy and speech therapy in school-age children with CP. The second goal was to describe the differences in effectivity between a speech therapy following a physiotherapeutic care and speech therapy conducted in isolation. Every patient from my research file underwent seven therapies - entry kinesiological analysis, two speech therapy interventions with no previous physiotherapy and four different physiotherapies followed by a speech therapy intervention. The results were assessed based on my observation and a speech therapist evaluation. I myself view these therapies as successful ones, because my work showed that a co-operation of physiotherapy and speech therapy is very important, and it has its positive results. For example, the children's sitting poses were improved during speech therapy, their face expressions were more relaxed, their breathing in speech therapy exercises improved or their phonation time was extended.
Injury of anterior cruciate ligament of knee joint and following physiotherapy intervention
HOFMAN, David
This bachelor thesis is about physiotherapy with people, who have rupture of anterior cruciate ligament of knee joint, outlining set of general exercises and methods, which can be used for primary injury treatment or in prevention of overload or future injury. The thesis consists of two parts. First one is theoretic, where I describe anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, injury mechanics, possibilities of conservative and surgery treatment and possibilities of therapy. In second part, which is practical, I performed qualitative investigation of three patients. Each of them had rupture of anterior cruciate ligament. Surgery has been performed by using semitendinosus muscle autograft. The first examination were conducted before orthopedics surgery, additional posturography examination were performed when surgeon allowed, that patient can stand on both legs with full body weight. In therapy sessions we spent 6-7 weeks. Three to four weeks after intens rehabilitation has been finished, the final examination were performed. The thesis objectives are summary of problems, in which experts still have different opinions, design of rehabilitation-treatment plan and rating of physiotherapy intervention. Therapy solved main deficits in all three cases, which are swelling, pain and muscle hypotrophy. The thesis can be used as an educational material for physiotherapy students, as well as for layman public.
Possibilities of physiotherapy for football players with talocrural joint distortion
HAMAJDOVÁ, Barbora
The bachelor thesis deals with the possibilities of physiotherapy after distortion of the ankle joints in football players. It deals with the issue of injuries of the ligamentous apparatus of the ankle joint, its most frequent causes, the mechanism of the injury, the consequences of the injury and, last but not least, its treatment with the use of physiotherapeutic means. The first aim is to map the possibilities of physiotherapy and to design a physiotherapeutic plan. The second aim is to map the training plan and the environment in which athletes move and to suggest its modifications and exercises preventing the injury. The methodology of the work is done in the form of qualitative research. As a research group, I chose 3 players of the football A team of the Vysočina Regional Championship. The criterion for inclusion in the research was once or multiple times suffered distortion of an ankle. The research includes a semi-structured interview, a kinesiological examination, and a data analysis. The results are processed in the form of casuistry, according to which individual physiotherapeutic plans were subsequently designed and compiled. Furthermore, a mapping of the training plan and the environment in which the athletes move was done. After the analysis, I recommended modifications of both. The bachelor thesis can be considered to be a source of information on the issue of ankle distortion and it can also serve as educational material for both the general public and professionals. The work could be a guideline for football players who want to improve the stability of their ankles and thereby reduce the frequency of injuries. In addition, it can also help footballers while changing their training schedule.
Use of physiotherapy for vertebrogenic difficulties associated with scuba diving
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Kamila
This work is about using physiotherapy methods in patients with vertebrogenic difficulties associated with scuba diving. The first goal is to suggest therapy for concrete patients with vertebrogenic difficulties and the second goal is to chart the effects of the therapy performed in concrete patients with vertebrogenic difficulties. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the issue of vertebrogenic difficulties, describes the anatomy and kinesiology of the spine, presents scuba diving and presents the possibilities of using physiotherapy. The practical part consists of four case reports and a description of the proposed therapy. The work is processed in the form of qualitative research. Data collection was performed by the entry and exit examination. The results were based on qualitative analysis of these data. The research group consisted of four probands who spent their free time on scuba diving while suffering from occasional vertebrogenic difficulties. The research took the form of regular meetings, usually held once a week for two months. Therapy results are ambiguous. There were both objective and subjective improvements in two probands. One of the probands did not match the subjective impression with objective results and one of the probands has worsened. Many factors could have affected the results. For example, by an individual approach to therapy, by other sporting activities performed in addition to exercise, or by injuries made during therapy. The theoretical part can be used as a source of information for divers as it highlights the risks of developing vertebrogenic difficulties. The practical part can be beneficial in physiotherapy practice as an exercise unit not only for divers.
Possibilities of respiratory therapy in children with spinal muscular atrophy
BRŮŽKOVÁ, Romana
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare, progressive, genetically conditioned disease that causes muscle wasting. Depending on its type, the disease can begin to appear at an early age. As the disease progresses, muscles of the whole body begin to weaken, causing the affected person to be bound to a wheelchair, forced to use various compensation tools and is dependent on the help of others. Very common complications of this disease are e.g. scoliosis, swelling of the limbs, contractures, and respiratory problems, to which need to be responded as soon as possible, as it is very serious complication and respiratory insufficiency in advanced stages may lead to death of the affected person. It is neccessary to strengthen breathing muscles, maintain lung volume by training and keep the airways clear and clean. The main goal of this thesis was to formulate the possibilites of respiratory therapy in children with the spinal muscular atrophy and to apply selected techniques of respiratory therapy and selected aiding tools along with the evalution of the effect. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the disease, its symptoms, diagnosis, and options of treatment such as pharmacotherapy, gene therapy, medical rehabilitation and respiratory therapy, which is crucial in children with spinal muscular atrophy. The practical part is based on qualitative research, where casuistries of three children with spinal muscular atrophy are processed. The research includes kinesiological analysis, muscular test, measurement of the chest circumference and spirometric examination. Based on this examination, a therapy plan was established. Lung function in all probands at the end of the therapy was approximately the same as at its beginning, which can be considered a positive effect of selected techniques due to the fact that SMA is a progressive disease.
