Self - support in patients after the stroke
VANĚK, Filip
My thesis deals with the change of self-sufficiency of a patient after a vascular brain damage (VBD). The research covered nurses working at a neurology ward, aftercare wards, nurses working for homr-care agencies and patients after. I chose this topic as VBDs represent a serious medical-social problem and secondarily also an economic problem. At present they represent the third most frequent cause of death in the Czech Republic as well as in other developed countries. This is why they deserve increased attention, which has not been paid to them in practice so far.
Period hospitalization cancerning autarchy development of patient cured from stroke.
KALUŽOVÁ, Lenka
Stroke (celebrovascular accident CVA) is caused by a disturbance of the blood supply to the brain and today represents a medical, social and economic problem. It is the third most frequent cause of death and the most common cause of mental and physical handicap nowadays. In the thesis mechanisms of stroke development are introduced, risk factors that are involved in the disease development are described. Manifestation of stroke according to specific types of disablement is also mentioned. The research was conducted by a quantitative method. Self-sufficiency of patients was evaluated using a standardized test of self-sufficiency (Bartel´s test) and observation techniques. The Bartel´s test was made at the patient´s admission as well as his (her) discharge from hospital. Patients from the research database were monitored every day of hospitalization and their success or failure in training self-sufficiency were processed in twelve casuistics. The presupposed objective of this work was to determine the average time of patient´ hospitalization required to achieve self-sufficiency in daily activities. The results of the thesis result in the following hypotheses: 1. In younger patients the average period of hospitalization is longer than in elder ones. 2. The return to self-sufficiency is faster when nurses support patients to exercise daily activities by themselves. 3. Faster return to self-sufficiency is achieved in patients with prospects of being discharged from hospital to home care.

Position of occupational therapy in System of Rehabilitation
PULKERTOVÁ, Jindřiška
Rehabilitation is generally understood as a discipline solving mainly problems connected with motor system. However, the concept of rehabilitation is much larger. In fact, rehabilitation is the all-society system where restoration of moving functions is only one of goals on the way to one{\crq}s reintegration into society. There are a lot of professions within this system participating in the process. Occupational therapy is one of them. The main goal of the dissertation is to introduce occupational therapy as a profession, and highlight its range and position in the system of rehabilitation. The dissertation answers the question on what occupational therapy can offer to the people in need of rehabilitation and investigates wether and how occupational therapy intervention can contribute to the rehabilitation proccess. Further more, the dissertation compares the roles of the profession in Czech Republic and Europe and uses the findings to formulate new hypothesis which can be used for a future research. The main approach of our dissertation is qualitative investigation. We chose the type of case study and participant observation. All that was completed with technique of secondary data analysis. In case studies and according to the experience from the London hospital has been discovered that occupational therapy deals with all components participating in execution of human activities. Occupational therapy assesses and provides interventions to improve sensomotoric, cognitive and psychosocial functions. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. The information obtained from trainee-ship on the Department of Occupational Therapy in London and data has charted and clarified position of occupational therapy. Main difference is in competency of the professionals. In Czech Republic competency are lower and more limited compared to the rest of Europe. Additionally, the number of occupational therapists is lower in our country than is an average in Europe. On the base of obtained information the new hypothesis has been made thereby both goals have been met.
ELDERLY PERSON´S FALLS AND ITS HEALTH AND SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES
JIŘINOVÁ, Libuše
A fall and the subsequent hospitalisation in the after-care ward are often a critical moment for the elderly. In the causal connection with the fall, self-sufficiency, self-activity and motivation for recovery are often lost or reduced in the elderly during long hospitalisation. As a consequence, a part of senior citizens thus become trapped in the institutional care network with a reduced or eliminated chance to get back to their natural home environment.
