Does economic freedom reduce country's suicide rate?
Fabian, Jakub ; Melzochová, Jitka (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
This paper analyses the relationship between economic freedom and suicide rates in the world. Economic freedom in this study is described by two most respected indexes by Heritage Foundation and Fraser Institute, whose impact on suicideness is examined separately. This study uses cross-sectional data from the year 2012. Analysis suggets ambivalent effect of economic freedom on suicideness. Therefore, this paper divides economic freedom to two aspects: Personal economic freedom and business economic freedom. High personal economic freedom lowers the sucidie rate, while business economic freedom can act in the opposite direction and increase the suicide rate.

Papay, Jindřich ; Rotschedl, Jiří (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
Bachelor theses examine the impact of economic factors on suicides in the Czech republic. Economic factors were included a gross domestic product per capita and an unemployment. The gross domestic product showed an indirect dependence on a suicide rate. On the contrary, the unemployment showed a direct dependence on the suicide rate. Other variables affected suicides were a birth rate and a divorce rate. The divorce rate and the birth rate showed the same dependence as the unemployment. The birth rate showed opossite values than was assumption. The relationship between a consumption of alcohol and the suicide rate was not proved and the relationship between a migration rate and the suicide rate was also not proved. This bachelor theses confirmed the influence of economic factors on the suicide rate. The results can be specified by extending of time series.

Machálková, Dana ; Barák, Vladimír (advisor) ; Krebs, Vojtěch (referee)
Bachelor thesis deals with social-pathological phenomenon of suicide. Due to the broad range of the topic, the scope of this work is reduced to the view of high schools and universities students. The main objective of this work is to determine whether young people hold the opinion that a free man who has the right to life should also have the right to die discretionary. Also whether they have ever thought about suicide as a solution of negative economic factors. Finally, compare the difference in opinions on the issue of students from high schools and universities in different years of study and not studying respondents. The theoretical part, which deals mainly with economic factors and the cost of suicide and the practical part where I carry out own research, where I try using the questionnaire to find out the importance of economic factors for respondents. The research says that the economic factors are very important even for students and that there is possibility they would thing about suicide due to these factors.
The Incidence of Suicide Among Alcoholics
LHOTSKÁ, Veronika
For my master thesis, I have chosen the topic of alcoholics' suicide occurrence. There were 1647 people who have committed a suicide in the Czech Republic during the year 2012. Out of the 1647 people, there were 1370 men, and 277 women (ČSÚ, 2013). The deaths of alcoholics are not recorded by the National Evidence Center. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The information for the theoretical part was gathered from academic sources. The two examined parts are the suicide commitment in the Czech Republic, and the alcohol consumption. The practical part is simply a primary research that I have done in PL Červený Dvůr. The research had two parts; quantitative and qualitative. The qualitative part was done through interviews with chosen respondents. The quantitative part was done through surveys distributed in PL Červený Dvůr. I have chosen to do the quantitative part first, so that I could choose the right candidates for the quantitative part based on their responses. The interviews helped me to complete the information I was looking for. I have set various goals that I wanted to reach through the research. The main goal was to chart the suicide behavior of alcoholics who are patients of PL Červený Dvůr. In order to reach such goal, I have set partial goals. The first partial goal was to contras the reason that lead the patients of PL Červený Dvůr to try to commit a suicide. According to the results I received, the most common reason for committing a suicide is either unfulfilled love, or the breaking-up with partner. Another goal was to discover the way the patients tried to kill themselves. As the majority responded so, the most common way is to cut the veins while drunk. The third goal was to compare and contrast the different reasons why as well as the ways how to commit a suicide. I have focused on two groups of patients of PL Červený Dvůr; the alcoholics and the toxicants. The alcoholics had proven that the reason why the tried to kill themselves was love, but the toxicants stated that they did it because they simply did not have a reason to live anymore. Both of the groups decided to end their lives by cutting their veins.

Mitlöhner, Miroslav ; Wisiński, P.
Sebevražda je závažný společenský fenomén a bývá často spojena s řadou negativních dopadů pro rodinu a blízké okolí jejího realizátora. V neposlední řadě přináší i složité právní problémy spojené s rozhodováním o svém vlastním životě a zásahem třetích osob do děje.
Handling calls with suicidal topic by singl European emergency call number 112 in the South Bohemian and the Pilsen region
KUČEROVÁ, Renáta
The operators working the emergency line 112 receive, evaluate and handle information about the type of incidence while performing their job. They also receive situations where they handle emergency calls dealing with suicides. Talking to a person with suicidal intent is an extremely stressful and mentally challenging situation. Operators are well aware when handling a suicide call a human life hangs in the balance. They are the ones which can discourage the intention of suicide or lose the caller. Due to the seriousness of the matter it is really essential that the operators are professionally prepared to handle such calls and successfully deal with this challenging situation. The thesis deals with the handling of suicide calls on the single European emergency line 112 in the South Bohemia and Plzen regions. I established two goals for the diploma thesis. The first objective is to compare the professional preparation of the emergency line 112 operators for handling suicide calls in the South Bohemia and Plzen regions. The second is to create a proposal for increasing the training preparedness of the emergency line 112 operators for dealing with suicide calls. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretic part covers the basic concepts of the topic of suicide. In general the reader becomes familiar with the basic concepts, such as forms, motives, causes, developmental stages, methods or risk factors for suicidal tendencies, past and present social attitudes and other facts are described. Further the issue of crisis intervention is clarified from the point of view of the emergency call 112 centers and their operators. The theoretical part of the thesis relies on the knowledge based on the analysis, synthesis and research from available sources dealing with this issue. Printed books, magazines, journals, laws, statutory regulations and methodology of the Czech Republic Fire and Rescue Service, Fighting rule of Fire protection units, Catalog File of Type Activities and electronic sources were used as references. To achieve the purpose and obtain answers to the research question, the qualitative methodology of research was used in the thesis. In both regions, on the basis of a questionnaire survey, readiness of the emergency number 112 operators to handle calls from individuals contemplating suicide was evaluated and the research question answered. Response to the research question proved that professional preparedness of the operators of emergency number 112 for handling calls related to suicide requires the operators possess additional professional knowledge and skills. Based on the data from the questionnaire survey and a study of the professional literature, design methodology is developed to enhance professional preparation service emergency number 112 suicide calls. The results from the questionnaire survey indicated that not all the operators demonstrated the same knowledge level and skills and that regularly all of them do not go through the same training on the theme of suicide. Therefore in design methodology, training divided by each category is incorporated. For each category, a schedule, structure and content of the training is elaborated and a suitable trainer is recommended. In the discussion and conclusion of this thesis there are further useful recommendations listed which relate to the research topic, however they are not part of the above mentioned methodology.
Relationship to Death and Burial Perception of the Students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies
ZAHRADNÍKOVÁ, Marie
This work deals with issues concerning the death, burial and everything related. The main objective of this work was to determine how students of Social Work in Public Administration perceive this issue. Writing a bachelor thesis on this topic occurred to me after I attended the funeral of my grandfather. The funeral was held at the crematorium in Czech Budejovice and I was very surprised how impersonal impression it made on me. Due to this event, I thought it would be interesting to find out the attitude of the students who study a discipline which could bring them into this area (care for the dying, the bereaved, etc.). The work is divided into two main parts, namely the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part deals with terms such as death, dysthanasia, tabooisation of death, dying and related phases commonly known as pre finem, in finem, and post finem. Furthermore, in this section you can find the most widespread conception - stages of dying by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Subsequently dying care issue, dying care options that are commonly utilized and palliative care necessarily attached appear in this thesis. This last issue has been included in the theoretical part, because I think that in institutions where palliative care is offered, help of the social worker is an important service. The theoretical part then focuses on the survivors, where professional counselling for survivors is mentioned as well, although it has appeared in our country just recently. Furthermore, in the theoretical part, you can find a brief history of funerals and burials not only in the Czech Republic, but also throughout the world, where the diversity of rituals is often determined by religion. And last but not least the issue of suicide is also mentioned in this part. In the empirical part the method of qualitative research was used. It was conducted using semi-standardized interviews. 10 communication partners, more precisely students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies at the University of South Bohemia - branch Social Work in Public Administration, participated in the interviews. The interviews were carried out between 30 to 60 minutes in places that communication partners had chosen themselves. Individual interviews were recorded on a voice recorder and later transcribed. The questions were divided into three groups for the purpose of better evaluation. The first area was focused on understanding the terms, which had been used and explained in the theoretical part, the second circuit concerned death and dying in the future profession of the communication partners or in their experience and the last circuit to investigate whether they had already had any experience with death in the sense of attending the funeral and how they perceived their own mortality. Semi-structured interviews were analyzed using cluster method. The aim was to find out how full-time students - branch Social Work in Public Administration at Health and Social Faculty at the University of South Bohemia in Czech Budějovice perceive matters concerning the death and burial.
Has altruism in decision making on the life-shortening action the same relative weight as other factors?
Procházka, Michal ; Šťastný, Daniel (advisor) ; Chytilová, Helena (referee)
When person decides on life-shortening action he compares value of current and future life with costs and benefits of this action that can be simply divided into four categories, psychological, financial, religious and altruistic. The main issue of the paper is what is the role of altruism in decision making. Decision making model used in this article is based on the model of Becker and Posner, but is modified to include all preventive and risk factors, respectively, costs and revenues. This model is interpreted for types of life-shortenitng actions, which are then compared with each other. From this comparison it follows that the altruism has in decision making rather greater relative weight.
Social Work with Specific Clients (Client with Suicidal Tendencies)
KOTISA, Jan
The work deals with the work with a suicidal client. The theoretical part describes the important concepts in the field of social work, suicidal themes and crisis intervention with suicidal client. It deals with the description of social work, its methods and objectives, the social worker's competence and advisory process. Subsequently introduces the suicidal topic and distinguishes types of suicidal behavior. In the last part, it explains the intervention for suicidal client and focuses on the telephone contact. In the practical part, work compares the statistical data from the Czech Statistical Office with the results of the survey work.
Senoir suicides
MÁCHOVÁ, Vendula
SENIOR SUICIDES I have chosen the problem of senior suicide as the topic of my bachelor degree thesis . At the begining of the theoretical part I have described all forms of suicidal behaviour such as suicidal thoughts, suicidal tendencies, suicidal attempt and completed suicide. I took a closer look at the completed suicide. I have described the phenomenon of suicide from different points of view of medical doctors, psychologists, philosophers and other specialists. I have mentioned the types of suicide such as premeditated suicide, demostrative suicidal behaviour, impulsive suicidal behaviour and group suicides. I have also examined Ringel´s presuicidal syndrom, ways of suicidal behaviour and the development of suicidal tendencies. I have also described the medical, socilogical and psychological theories of suicidal behaviour. At the end of the theoretical part I focused on the old age itself and the suicidal behaviour at this life period. I described the biological features of aging as well as the changes of behaviour in the old age. As the main reasons for the senior suicidal behaviour often stem from old age related problems such as depression, long-term somatic illness, death of the life partner, retirement, social isolation, institutionalization or drinking problem, I have focused on these phenomena in particular. The last chapter deals with the prevention of suicidal behaviour in the old age. The aim of the practical part was to carry out a survey of senior suicide in the South Bohemian, Ústecký, Liberecký region and the region of the capital of Prague and to compare the number of senior sucides in these regions. The survey focused on the development of the number of suicides in seniors over 65 years of age with view to education, sex, the way of conducting suicide, size of town and the month of death in 2005 and 2006. I have used the statistic data of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic. The results of the survey prooved that the senior suicides are more frequent in men with lower education from smaller towns and the most frequent way of commiting suicide is the intentional self-harm by hanging, strangeling and suffocating. The thesis could be used for further survey or the prevention of senior siucidal behaviour.
