Factors affecting the attendance of Zoo Brno
Klofáč, Daniel ; Babin, Jan (advisor) ; Slaný, Martin (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is to identify factors, which affects the demand of service of ZOO Brno and recommend steps to management to raise attendance and takings. I use daily data of attendance from years 2008 - 2014. The parameters are estimated by ordinary least square method. Most variables are statistically significant. Results show us, that the biggest influence on attendance has the variable weekend, in amount up to 165 % on adult group. Next significant variables with positive effect are bank holidays, school holidays and event in the area of ZOO park. Variables price, amount of precipitation and holding Moto GP in Brno have negative effect. Temperature has positive effect until breaking point, from this point the effect is negative.
Prague Zoo corporate design and logo redesign
Dvořáková, Anna ; Horný, Stanislav (advisor) ; Kocourek, Ivan (referee)
This Master's Thesis thoroughly introduces the new logo and corporate design of the Prague Zoo. The main goal of the Thesis is to judge the logo as well as the corporate design based on the graphic design, corporate identity, corporate design and corporate image theoretical principles and on the comparison with other Czech and worldwide zoo logos. A monitoring of the new corporate design implementation inside the zoo and of chosen marketing campaigns as well as souvenirs and merchandising with the new logo was done. The Thesis also includes some recommendations in order to make the whole Prague Zoo's corporate design better. It also introduces an alternative logo design created by the author of the Thesis at the very end of the Master's Thesis.
Citlivost spirochet Lymské boreliózy ke komplementu různých druhů zvířat chovaných v zoologických zahradách: potenciál rezervoárových hostitelů vybraných exotických obratlovců
TICHÁ, Lucie
Reaction of vertebrate serum complement with different Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato species was used as a basis in determining reservoir hosts among domesticated and wild animals. Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii were tested for their sensitivity to serum of exotic vertebrate species housed in 5 zoos located in the Czech Republic. We confirmed that different Borrelia species have different sensitivity to host serum. We found that different tolerance to Borrelia infection possessed by hosts might alter among the individuals of the same genera or species and is not affected by host's age or sex. From all zoo animals included in our study, carnivores demonstrated the highest apparent reservoir competency for Lyme borreliosis spirochetes.
The analysis of information sources and technologies in the zoological garden
Jarešová, Nikola ; Veber, Jaromír (advisor) ; Smutný, Zdeněk (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on the ways of informing visitors, used information sources and technologies at the Prague Zoo. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the introduction. The second chapter explains terms associated with informing. The third chapter introduces organization the Prague Zoo. The fourth chapter describes specific information sources and technologies at the Prague Zoo. The fifth chapter contains an analysis of data obtained from survey of zoo visitors. In the sixth chapter is the conclusion. Objective of this thesis is to present the ways of infoming visitors of the Prague Zoo that are supported by the use of various information sources. Moreover the aim is to analyze the preferences and opinions of zoo visitors in terms of use information sources and technologies in survey.
Determinants of demand for the Jihlava Zoo services
Nacházel, Jan ; Rotschedl, Jiří (advisor) ; Babin, Jan (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to discover, which factors specify the demand for the Jihlava ZOO services, and recommend steps to raise attendance and revenues of the zoo. The time series with 2557 observations, which come from the period between 2007 and 2013, were used in the thesis. These data were used for econometric analysis, which was conducted with the ordinary least square method with robust standard errors against heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation. Most variables, which were included into the econometric model, proved themselves to be statistically significant. The attendance is positively influenced by bank holidays and weekends. Ticket price and petrol price do not play a significant role in visitors' decision making.
Draft worksheets for Zoologickou zahrahu Ohrada Hluboká nad Vltavou
DRAGOVÁ, Klára
The theoretical part of the thesis deals with different teaching forms focusing on teaching forms used in extracurricular teaching. The second section of theoretical part summarizes the requirements for educational material used in this form of teaching. The main outcome of the thesis is self-contained worksheets for Zoological garden Ohrada Hluboká nad Vltavou named "DO YOU KNOW THE ANIMALS IN THE ZOO" for children of the 2nd grade elementary school.
A comparison of selected ethological aspects of chosen tortoise species
BLAŽEK, David
In this thesis we studied individuals of 4 species of tortoises, often bred in captivity genus Testudo species T. hermanni, T. graeca, T. horsfieldi and T. marginata, in possession of the ZOO Hluboká nad Vltavou. We studied and analyzed their morphological parameters, size measurements, their weight and biometrical indexes, wheather they follow described sexual dimorphism as it was found out in non-captive populations. We also studied and analyzed their food preferences to find out differences between sexes and between keeping individual animal versus a group, by giving them a choice between 4 types of food (the red cabbage, leaves of dandelion and clover, and carrot roots). Sexual dimorphism displayed by different body proportions was most apparent in Testudo hermanni. In specimen from the ZOO of Testudo horsfieldi a T. graeca was sexual dimorphism less prominent. Measured Testudo females from the ZOO were in lowest, approximate and highest values bigger and heavier than males of the same species, which mirrors data from other studies of non-captive populations. Males are quicker to get to and quicker to start eating food than females. Males preffered red cabbage and carrot while the females clover and dandelion. The amplitude of preference change between individual and group experiment was not correlated by individual´s sex, species or size. We found out no apparent hierarchical enforcement from the side of faster or bigger specimen in the feeding process.
The proposal of tourism development project
KOTKOVÁ, Marika
The main task of project is build a accommodation with a miniature zoo for tourism development in the area. For these purpose it is necessary reconstruction of a building which will further serve as a suite accommodation. There should be three suites and in each of them two rooms for sleeping, one room with double bed, one room with separated beds, a usefully equipped kitchenette connected to the living room, and bathroom with WC. As for the garden, there should be pens or cages with sheep, goats, horses, turtles, parrots, pheasants, peacocks, emus and kangaroos.
Feeding enrichment in selected Felids
PINTOVÁ, Radka
Environmental enrichment and welfare are important elements for animals in captivity. This study starts with general introduction in breeding animals in zoos and environmental enrichment for important taxonomic groups. The practical part is following with a research on effect of food on frequency of stereotypic behavior. The theoretical assumption says that the different time of eating the food leads to different behavior. Long-term observation was done to confirm the theory. Eight animals belonging in three species were observed in time of feeding, eight types of food were given. The behavior at the time of feeding and after was evaluated by ethogram. General trends in time used for feeding were confirmed (the shortest time for chicken and opposite the longest for head of a goat). The evaluation of stereotypic behavior mainly showed the individuality of each animal. However, servals exhibit most of this pattern. The relationship between stereotypes and time of feeding was insignificant. Generally most of the results were statistically insignificant because of low number of repetition in the dataset.
Evaluation of breeding of cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) in the Czech Republic
VÁŇOVÁ, Jana
The aim of this work was to evaluate breeding of cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) in the zoos of the Czech Republic according to the yearbooks of zoological gardens. Breeding of cheetah has started in the Czech Republic (zoo Praha) in 1933.. Plzeň zoo has been breeding the subspecies Acinonyx jubatus soemmeringii from 2010, the other zoos do not mention subspecies. The total number of cheetahs bred in the zoos in the Czech Republic is 17 individuals to 31.12.2012. This number of individuals is also the long term average from the beginning of breeding. The highest number of cheetahs (25 individuals) was bred in the years 1972-1975. and then in the years 2004-2007, with the peak of 34 cheetahs in 2005. The lowest number of cheetahs was bred in the Czech zoos in the years 1995-1997, it was 9 cheetahs. Nowadays cheetahs have been bred in 5 zoos in the Czech Republic: Dvůr Králové, Olomouc, Ústí nad Labem, Praha and Plzeň. Number of cheetahs in private breeding in the Czech Republic consisted almost 50 % of cheetahs kept in zoos to 31.12.2012. Number of bred cheetahs in the Czech zoos creates 1 % of bred cheetahs in zoos all over the world. Breeding cheetah cubs was successful in 3 Czech zoos Dvůr Králové, Praha and Olomouc. Zoo Dvůr Králové zoo is the 7th most successful zoo in breeding of cubs in the European scale. There was born 63 cheetah cubs from the first breeding in 1988 to 2012. On the second place there is Praha zoo. Breeding of cheetah cubs began here in 1972 and it was one of the 3 zoos in the world where breeding cubs was successful at that time. In 1972-2012 there were born 53 cubs. Praha zoo is the 9th most successful zoo in breeding cubs in European scale. Olomouc zoo bred first cheetahs in 2004 and 18 cubs were born here up to 2012.
